Good point...I started reading a bit more on the woman being interviewed and her research. I'll try to post more on her and her work when I think it applies to this concept. Haven't done a good job on putting more info in hereYankee23Fan said:Interesting. As a primer though. At lot of the thoughts need to be pulled out longer but the forum doesn't allow it. Still, the political history of our country is fascinating in any length of review.
Can you elaborate more and add why you think it's worthwhile? I have a hard time finding an extra hour. But trust your recommendations.
It's a cast about how/why people will take a position that they don't believe personally. In practical terms it's the psychological condition where we just smile and bear it telling our loved one the dinner they made us was the best thing ever even though we hated it. They look at it from the political perspective where people who are on record with position X then go silent or do a complete 180 on their position and the forces at play in how that happens. So explaining how "law and order" guys have been silent on Trump's antics or "make love not war" guys were all in on getting back at Bin Laden etc.Can you elaborate more and add why you think it's worthwhile? I was JUST thinking about this a couple days ago as I've been processing the events of the last 6 months. I am wondering if we aren't watching, in real time, a major shift like what happened in the Civil War era. I think that remains to be seen and will be interesting to see what happens when Trump is still an option in 2024 having not being officially removed from ever holding office again. If there was ever a time for a viable third party, it would be then IMO.Interesting point about a rift in one party causing a realignment of policies, which would facilitate less animosity between the two parties. Makes logical sense. I'm curious what a realignment of Republican policies would end up looking like.
You rang?If there was ever a time for a viable third party, it would be then IMO.
Dozens of former Republican officials, who view the party as unwilling to stand up to former President Donald Trump and his attempts to undermine U.S. democracy, are in talks to form a center-right breakaway party, four people involved in the discussions told Reuters.
The early stage discussions include former elected Republicans, former officials in the Republican administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Trump, ex-Republican ambassadors and Republican strategists, the people involved say.
More than 120 of them held a Zoom call last Friday to discuss the breakaway group, which would run on a platform of "principled conservatism," including adherence to the Constitution and the rule of law - ideas those involved say have been trashed by Trump.
The plan would be to run candidates in some races but also to endorse center-right candidates in others, be they Republicans, independents or Democrats, the people say.
Evan McMullin, who was chief policy director for the House Republican Conference and ran as an independent in the 2016 presidential election, told Reuters that he co-hosted the Zoom call with former officials concerned about Trump’s grip on Republicans and the nativist turn the party has taken.
Ha...posted the same article in the "why didn't the GOP save itself" thread. You rang?If there was ever a time for a viable third party, it would be then IMO.

Trump is done. Trump may still do some things but he will be 78 in four year and that is too old after all the chaos to get the GOP nomination. I would assume the dems would love him to run as a third party option to assure a Dem win in 2024. But no way he wins on any ticket.I was JUST thinking about this a couple days ago as I've been processing the events of the last 6 months. I agree with this. I know I wouldn't vote for him if he was on the ticket.Trump is done.
