No more “Latino voters” (1 Viewer)

There’s going to be a lot of lessons from this election but here is the first one that comes to mind: no more “Latino voters”. There are Cuban American voters, Mexican American voters, Venezuelan American voters, etc. Depending on what region of the United States they live in, and a whole lot of other factors, they have different political opinions. There is no purpose in considering them as one voting bloc.

Still flummoxed that Cuban-Americans and Venezuelan-Americans feel like Joe Biden is essentially the same person as Fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez. And there's this quick, direct path from a Democratic presidency in the U.S. to 1959 Cuba   None of that rings true.

It is 2020 and maybe it is time to end politcal divisiveness .   How about being inclusive to all as one and have everyone just referred to as people, American Citizens?

In terms of political analysis that doesn’t work. For business purposes that doesn’t work either. We live in a multicultural society, for better or worse. It’s almost always better IMO.

I think you are conflating political divisiveness and political analysis.

You can be "people" and "american citizens" and the population still consists of different cultures.

The challenge is in the "analysis of our differences" not driving "divisiveness".

I'm not surprised that Cuban Americans voted they way they did - that was logical.  Starr County, though, is a huge red flag and was one of the big surprises of this election.

Do they actually believe this? Or do they believe he is a stepping stone?

One is crazy town. The other I can at least make an argument for, especially if the senate was flipped.

I'm surprised some are dismissive of what the Venezuelan and Cuban voting message is...these people have first-hand experiences with socialism and authoritarian rule...why would we not want to hear what they are saying?

Really, the Democrats would be more successful, I think, if they focused more on class than race.
1,000.000%...the issue is they are committed to identity politics and if they go this route they would have to totally change how they go about things.

Oh, we would be wise to study the history of how authoritarians came to power and the wreckage they brought with them when their power was unchecked.

Agreed.
Trump does compare in many ways to the current leader of Brazil, however.
I don't know the current leader of Brazil very well, so I'll abstain from even pretending I can comment intelligently on that. He very well could be like him. I'd have to research it. Judging from the Brazilian leader's treatment of COVID, it wouldn't surprise me.

I know, and it's shameful.
It is.  Republicans are a party of fear.  "They" are going to take your guns, freedom, possessions, everything.  Now you could tell me the Democrats are a party of giving you "everything" and we can have a similar but completely different argument.

Also, as someone with more than a few Latino friends, I  them pretty hard.

Trump and Chavez or Castro is massive false equivalency and is the worst of analogies. Try better.
Biden to Chavez to Castro is an even worse false equivalency -- yet we are to believe the prospect of a President Biden scares Cuban-Americans enough to have them voting in a solid bloc for Trump.

"They've lived under socialism, they know what it looks like ... " ad nauseum.

See above. In truth, I simply don't believe that a significant number of Cuban-Americans truly fear Democratic politicians -- in the U.S. -- turning the country into an authoritarian socialist state in short order.

Maybe re-evaluate your assumptions about what Latinos think?

This should have been known long before 2020.   Anyone who has friends from different “Latino” backgrounds already knew this.

None of this Cuban crap would have happened if Gillum would have taken Florida.  Desantis has his people changing stats just like they did Covid.

Posted this in Presidential thread but NYTimes says Hispanic vote won Texas for Trump. Massive shift in many very heavy blue Hispanic counties in the south.
