Not really for the Political Forum.

People in my part of New Jersey (outside NYC) are reveling in the election outcome.

Seems a lot of folks got into their cars and are just riding around beeping their horns in joy.

This is a mistake imo.

50% of country hates the outcome and I fear over celebrating by the winning side may be seen as taunting by the losing side and we don't need to give any fringe lunatics added fuel to do something stupid.
The area l live in is very liberal.  If it wasn't so geared toward the Democratic side then l think you're spot on.  But then l doubt there are many people going around beeping their horns in 50/50 areas.

Yeah. The celebrations will be in strongly blue areas. Like fans celebrating their team winning a championship.

Well for one we won't be hearing about Covid anymore, so we have that going for us.
Speaking of COVID, I was going to put a hypothetical poll up as to whether Trump wins without COVID.  Unfortunately, it wouldn't post (not sure what l did wrong).

If anyone finds that an interesting poll question, please feel free to post it.

Thanks.

I will be very interested to see how the MSM covers COVID once Biden takes office. Will it be the same graphics with numbers of doom and gloom or will there be this constant stream of hand picked, feel good stories of people recovering.

I frankly don't know how CNN is going to survive. They must have had some kind of daily quota on how many negative Trump articles they had on their website and newscasts at any given moment. I mean with him out of office, there are only so many plane crashes and cop shootings to fill the news day.

CNN has always been tragedy porn. I suspect when there aren't 18 outrageous Trump stories a day to report on, it will be 100% COVID coverage. Unless there is a plane crash, of course. I guess we will see in January.

People that are heading out to go celbrate biden winning are never allowed to lecture a soul about anything covid. And i bet the % of these people that have done so in the past is high.
While they aren’t distancing...seems the mask wearing was almost unanimous.

Gov of MA just reclassified how they counted high risk zones . Went from 121 to 16 overnight

Shocking.
No kidding, right?  I mean, who'd have thought that a novel virus would require one to continuously alter ones perspectives, approach, and actions, right?

And you are also aware that the governor of MA is a republican, right?  Boy, it's almost as if all your snark is just hot air.  Not that I expect either of you to reconsider your approach.  You'll just move on to the NEXT thing that fits your pre-conceived world view.  Good luck with that.

He’s has  been one the most restrictive governors
Got data to back up that assertion?  And please make sure it is relative to per capita damage did to MA the past Spring.  Not that I think you'd try to compare MA when it was an epicenter at the height of the novel pandemic on our shores with a lesser impacted state at a later date when more was known.  You wouldn't do that, right?

You should qualify this a bit, as the method and style of celebrating matters.  Driving around and honking one's horn seems reasonably safe.  The outdoor, socially distanced cocktail party up the street from me consisting of 15 people seems reasonably safe.

We saw the meme of the young woman crying in 2016 posted everywhere, constantly heard about "making libs cry," and "he's your president, get used to it." That would also be considered taunting, far more so than horn honking, but at any rate, it shouldn't be about "your side" winning. We're all still in the same boat here, and nobody likes sore winners or losers. Everyone needs to relax for a few months.

Some of those are bad for sure.

WTF is going on in Harrisburg? All the pictures from there look like no one is wearing masks.
Look at most they showed as Trump supporters...no masks (not even just off around the necks).  Contrasted with the celebrations that seemed mostly full of people wearing masks.

Is that just CNN finding those without masks?  Could be...but it shows the contrast in the two sides right now...a contrast that has been made about how the campaign was run...a contrast that was shown a lot on election night in many states as they showed Trump's approval rating when it comes to Covid.

Now that the media got their guy in office, the corona narrative will change. The doom and gloom will fade in a month or so.  I’m excited that kids will return back to school and businesses will open.  The dems know that they must match Trumps economy before Covid to keep hold of the power.

I live in a red suburb of a deep blue city. Anecdotally, from what I've seen around me, both yesterday and over the past few months:

It's true that more political conservatives than liberals kind-of-sort-of don't believe in masks as a COVID mitigation measure. Given that, local compliance is still excellent across the board. However -- when it comes to irresponsible behavior with masks (e.g. pulling down to reveal nose, taking it off and forgetting about it after a sip of beer, etc.), I would say that cuts pretty cleanly across political lines.

I would add that the "eating and drinking exception" gets abused with some regularity. "I ate something an hour ago and I'm still hanging around with the same people I was an hour ago ... I need to put my mask back on?" I think that's a lot of what you see in these celebration shots -- eating/drinking exceptions, I-gotta-yell-out-loud-and-be-heard exceptions, and such.

The economy should have taken a back seat to ending Covid all the way back in March, but Trump decided that money was more important than 235,000 lives and counting, which is at least part of why he did nothing helpful to stop it, and furthermore, this entire narrative is patently false.

This will be poo-pooed by the left, but it is the absolute truth.

Trump wins about the same as he did in 2016 without COVID.  So we can take some good out of bad.

Uh, kids aren't going back to school anytime soon out west.  What is the source of information some of you are using to suggest kids are going back to school soon.

COVID isn't some conspiracy. It is a terrible pandemic. We are back to the point where the loss of life is on par with 2 9/11's every week. 1/4 million people in the US have died already and it is just starting to get really bad.

This will be poo-pooed by the left, but it is the absolute truth.
It should be easy to prove then.

Personally, I believe the pandemic will be be so wildly out of control by the time Trump leaves it will be difficult to loosen restrictions - I wouldn’t be surprised if the opposite of what you’re suggesting occurs.

I agree.  The pollsters totally screwed the pooch on this one.  Difficult to imagine Trump not winning if the economy is moving along well and people aren't dying from COVID.

In Oregon, no matter how many positive cases, the hospitalizations remain low......even now.....and it's been spiking much higher than it ever was before for well over 2 weeks.....yet hospitalizations remain constant, and low.....it's interesting

It's been a week, and the only narrative that has changed is that the incoming president actually has a plan to combat Covid.
Oh great!  The lifelong politician who can't remember where he is half the time is coming up with a plan!  Hooray for the federal government!

It remains a state level issue, mostly

Well, at least the false narrative with Biden is consistent. Too bad it's consistently wrong.
C'mon man!  Dude can't even complete a thought most of the time......he's had 47 years to perfect his speeches, so what's goin on?

He has a speech issue, which has been documented, and who here hasn't started a sentence and changed it midstream? That's practically a feature I have thanks to my ADD.

Oh ok, I get it.  Now that your guy is in, we're gonna give him a pass and call it a "speech issue".  Nevermind he's potentially the oldest prez ever.....and he looks, and sounds like the oldest prez ever.  I'm sure he's just as sharp as anyone who remembers when the telegraph was invented.
