Can't find a place to get my 1st shot (Walgreens, CVS, WalMart, local hospital, Publix) anywhere in South Florida but if I want to drive to the northern part of Florida (Pensacola/Tallahassee/Jacksonville), there are more than enough appointments at any place I check. I'm going to wait until something opens up but it's interesting to see the disparity between the two halves of the state...
There's probably political commentary about that observation...

Tip my dental hygienist gave me. Several of the sites like Walmart, etc, add their new open appts at midnight. I tried and sure enough had every timeslot open at my local Walmart a week out, as opposed to none available statewide when I was checking during the day.

One of them, CVS I think, she said was at 5am they do their updates.

So anyway, try at midnight if you are having trouble scheduling.
:goodposting:  This is how I got my appointment — checked the Walmart website at midnight and there were several slots available.

Same is true in TX.  Much easier to get a shot in the small towns and rural areas versus the big cities.

It's how I got my first dose.  Small town had a surplus and was willing to stab any willing arms, irrespective of eligibility.

Likely both a demand and supply issue.  Small towns are getting more doses per head, and there are also fewer willing arms in these towns per capita than the cities.

That's the unfortunate part of living in South Florida. We don't have any small towns necessarily due to geography. One town runs into the next and are bordered by the Everglades in the west and the ocean on the east side.

See my post above. Try a few of the sites at midnight.

:goodposting:  This is what I was told. I was ready to go online Monday at midnight when FL opens up to 40+ and there are 6,800 appointments open in my area, but now I don’t have to.

Wife was reluctant, but is now getting Pfizer 1 tomorrow. I will be soon after as my group opens Monday.

Pretty excited as we have been hardcore quarantining and my kids deserve their life back.
Those two bolded statements seem oddly contradictory. Why would someone that takes the virus seriously enough to hardcore quarantine be reluctant to get the vaccine?

Cause it still is "new"... Completely understandable someone might not want to inject a relatively new "rushed" vaccine in their body

I would think that if you think the virus is dangerous enough that you need to "hardcore quarantine" (his words, not mine), that the benefit would outweigh the risk. But it is certainly their choice to make. I still just find it odd though.

24 hours later, the lung burning is back and I’m getting easily winded. Neither is very severe, but it makes me wonder if I’ve been infected in the past without knowing it. Definitely wasn’t expecting shot #1 to be like this.

It is quite possible.  Do you recall any close calls? Any minor illnesses that could have been a super mild case of covid?

Haven’t been aware of any close contacts or had any sickness since the pandemic began, but I’m an essential worker and have routine interaction with the public—if I got infected anywhere, I’m sure it’s there.

What’s weird is that I can’t find anything online about lung discomfort after the vaccine, even for past covid patients. Might call my doctor if it doesn’t resolve itself over the weekend.

I'm getting texts and emails left and right about excess doses available in austin, san antonio, uvalde, lared, etc.

If you aren't getting one in TX .. you simply havent tried.

@Senor SchmutzigJacksonville and other places acrosd state have FEMA drive up sites with no appointment.  My wife got both of hers there.  A buddy of mine went today and said it was well run and he was in and out in no time. They're practically begging people to use it.

Monday when it goes to 40 could be bad but later in week....

FEMA site Gateway Mall
Trying to find a place that I can get an appointment first so I don't have to stand in a ridiculous line, There is one FEMA site in Miami that I am aware of but they are getting "only" 500/day. That doesn't seem like much.

I'm going to start hitting my regular round of websites at midnight and see if anything comes up. Was hopeful for a second when I saw four appointments pop up for Sunday on a Walgreens 20+ miles away but every time I tried to book one of the slots I got an error.

I would like to see how much of the hesitance is well though our educated research vs “I ain’t trusting no government”

Was able to get one at CVS about 10 miles away for Wednesday but when I went back to schedule one for my wife, I wasn't able to book any more at that location despite them having availability every 15 minutes from 9a-5p when I was checking for myself.

Illinois is similar.  Tough to get appointments in the north, easy in central/southern IL.

If you’re talking about me specifically, it has nothing to do with the government. Its because her lungs are shot from cystic fibrosis so shes simultaneously scared of a virus that attacks the lungs and scared of any side effects or impact of a new vaccine would have on her.  There are a lot of people with less common diseases that are being told (even by specialists) nobody knows how it will impact you other than a couple people in the trial. In any case, I posted because she’s getting it today.  We cannot risk her with covid just because of fear or uncertainty.

Me, just a regular guy, neither of us are worried about the vaccine and I was always getting it ASAP. I’m now scheduled for Wednesday.

GLLLLLLLLL

Supposedly 6,800 vaccination appointments opening in Hillsborough County (Tampa) on Monday for 40+. We’ll see if I get lucky.
I pre-registered thru the state site on Thurs...as I turn 50 in 6 weeks. They called me yesterday to schedule an appointment, then told me I wasn’t eligible based on age. And that I need to register again when the age drops. But if I try to register again it tells me that name is already registered.

Guess I’ll hope for the best there and try other direct local routes. Supposedly the dog track is a great spot.

got #1 on wednesday. went for a run a few hours later.

felt punch drunk and dazed about 20 minutes in. ran a while longer figuring it would go away. it didn't until about 24 hours later.

shot #2 in about a month.
Similiar. Got shot one of Moderna on Wednesday. Felt pretty good so I went for a 4 mile run. Was halfway through dinner and Bam! - I need to go to bed right now. At 7:30.

Really sore arm Thursday. Haven’t really felt right since. I did throw down 50 bags of mulch yesterday, so that may have something to do with it.

I’m scheduled for Thursday, Pfizer #1. AZ peeps- the state releases new slots Fridays at 11am. Pick the 2nd or 3rd available day and start there when picking a slot, otherwise you’ll have to try a thousand times.

Walgreen’s is a good option too and maybe Publix. If i were eligible right now, they have appointments nearby. I registered through Hillsborough County’s    provider here besides the state (twice). It said there were no appointments the other day in Hillsborough, but I’m sure that will change on Monday.

The Alamodome opened up vaccine sign-up for 30k doses Thursday night at 7:00 pm for shots beginning April 6th. People under age 50 weren't allowed to sign up until this Monday. The sign-up didn't make it past Friday morning before all appointments were full. i.e. No one under 50 had any chance to get one. Only 60% of San Antonions over age 65 have been vaccinated due to inability to get appointments. I'm not sure what your agenda is but you really need to stop putting out disinformation like this.

My wife got hers at the Alamodome a couple weeks ago.  Took her a few tries to find an opening but she got it.  I got mine in Victoria in February - made a call and showed up.

Uvalde is a weekly text notification I get.. this one on thursday:

EXTRA VACCINE DOSES Message fromCOVID-19 Vaccine Registry; extra vaccine doses CURRENTLY AVAILABLE at the Ssgt Willie de Leon Civic Center.  No pre-registration necessary; any individual 16 or older may get the vaccine.  First come first serve. https://evb.gg/n#ouwwww6div

So drive another hour and you can have one this week I imagine.

I stick to my position that people in Texas who haven't got it haven't made the effort - you might need to spend some time on google, you might need to drive a little further..

This judgy mcjudgeface act is past time to be put to bed.  I just documented the information, care to backtrack on that accusation? @DallasDMac

Misinformation?  How about the key datapoint missing in your post.. How many of the 40% over 65 not vaccinated have tried?  40% might not be too far off from the number around here that don't want it.

People aren't getting the vaccine, so people that want the vaccine should be.

My agenda?  People get vaccinated.

The trials were not rushed.  Development of the vaccines was rushed, review was made the top priority across government, but the "rush" was all on the front end.  Not the trials.

Trying to find the Williamson county (austin) notification I got last week for @The Z Machine, may have deleted it.  Just sign up on the websites... it isn't hard to find.

My county is doing ~5000 shots a day.  A neighboring county just opened a single site (in addition to everything else they're doing) aiming at 6000 shots/day.  Signed my wife up a week ago figuring she'd never be eligible, but it appears there aren't any requirements -- they're just blasting through as many people as they can and she got an appt for next week.  Chez Dinsy is about 30 days from returning to normal(ish) life.

Early on the sites in TX were tough on requirements.  Then they started throwing away doses and now they won't blink if a 300 pound dude claims anorexia as a chronic condition.

still doesn't change the reason why some people might be hesitant I'm not talking about people that are just never going too

Feeling fine this AM, at the advice of my Dr. I am taking tylenol rather than advil.  I've never tolerated tylenol super well :toilet: but don't have what I call an allergy to it.  I feel no worse than drinking 3/4 a bottle of red wine (didn't drink at all since last weekend).

I have a few questions, at the end of my shot they put stickers on my card, but there's literally no evidence other than that card and those stickers that I've had the shots.  If there is to be restrictions on travel and whatever how will this be enforced? I feel like I could or someone could easily make fake cards without any trouble whatsoever.

I gave all my name and everything tied to a QR code and all that with the county, but there's no indication they plan or have infrastructure to pass that information on to my Dr. or perhaps HHS for some sort of travel pass, or as a passport stamp or something.

NY just developed an app for this.

:headbang:  Just got my #1 Moderna a few minutes ago. Waiting my 15 minutes to go home. Mass vaccination at the local college. Had an appointment, walked in and was vaccinated in minutes. Told the nurse I could almost feel the microchips going in.

I'm so damn stoked right now. A lot of you haven't seen the devestation from this virus personally. A friend of mine lost his wife to it almost exactly a year ago. He is still just wrecked. My wife had a maintenance guy die from it last year. Great guy. Sole provider for his grandson with diasbilities.

Screw you COVID. I'm so ready for this crap to be over.
