This is a video from a distance of the moment when they dragged the officer down the steps and started beating him. It is not graphic from this distance, in case anyone is squeamish. https://twitter.com/RexChapman/status/1348347827173412866?s=20

I have so many questions, but my first one is how did this not result in the those other officers firing into the crowd to stop these people? They watch an angry mob drag their fellow officer down the steps and start beating on him but they don't retaliate?

One of the comments points out that the officer is being beaten by an american flag, only the best people right?

Firing into the crowd would probably have made it worse.

Because a federal property is part of the Constitution.  The rules were we'll established before people moved there.

The federal district could be shrunk down though.  Make it a new state or split it between VA and MD.  I'd probably be more in favor of this.
Right.  Just redefine the are from the WH to the Jefferson and the Congressional complex to the Lincoln as "Washington DC" and make everything around it to the VA/MD borders New DC or something like that.

Big controversy  at my daughters’ university, John C Eastman is a professor of Law at Chapman, and one of Trump’s attorneys. He stood next to Giuliani at the podium on Wednesday and helped to encourage the crowd. The students and much of the faculty want him removed. The President of the University won’t do it.

The stuff I've heard in the last 72 hours—from members of Congress, law enforcement friends, gun shop owners, MAGA devotees—is absolutely chilling. We need to brace for a wave of violence in this country. Not just over the next couple of weeks, but over the next couple of years.

I didn't watch the video, but my guess is that they have been trained to do only one job, protect the Congressmen and women.  That is why they didn't stop the vandals and looting, nor work to save a fellow officer.  They wouldn't leave their post because it could leave the Senators and Reps vulnerable.

I read an article where the head person basically stated that not one Congressperson was harmed, so they had done their job correctly.

Could be. But I tend to doubt it.
Right after the Oklahoma City bombing there was all sorts of talk that it was the beginning of militia uprisings all over the country. And then nothing happened because even most extremists don’t really want to go to jail.

‘We Love What They Did’: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio Supports Pro-Trump Caravan That Swarmed Biden Bus

In my opinion, these patriots did nothing wrong. Instead, the FBI & Justice should be investigating the terrorists, anarchists, and agitators of ANTIFA, who run around burning down our Democrat run cities and hurting our people!

According to The Washington Post,  Sen. Rubio, R-Florida, also offered support to those Trump supporters at a late night rally at Opa Locka Executive Airport on Sunday night.

“I saw yesterday a video of these people in Texas,” Rubio said at the rally before Trump’s arrival. “Did you see it? All the cars on the road, we love what they did.”
Plus that little incident in Michigan with the plot to kidnap the Governor.

If that's true it's a pathetic excuse.

After the ugliness of the breach of the Capitol Wednesday I thought things would calm but big tech’s actions seems to have thrown gas on the fire

I'm not sure if the people who walked in afterwards -- and didn't damage anything, didn't steal anything, and didn't confront police -- should be charged with any crimes at all.

Those are the types of people who often get their charges dropped when there are mass arrests at other protests (whether the protests are related to BLM, antifa, abortion, oil pipelines, etc.) I lean towards applying the law equitably here.
No thank you

Can you link to the article you read?

Jeez - I had never seen this before. Gawd so scary.  Was there any aftermath?

Surprised that’s a question at all. I wouldn’t want him tied to my university. Even before the attack on the Capitol building, I was wondering who in the world wants this dude teaching young adults.

There’s a video on Reddit of Lisa Rochester-Blount handing out masks while they were sheltered in the Capitol. A number of Republicans telling her to pound sand.
I watched this. Just the simple unprofessionalism is astounding. How about saying “thank you”, taking the mask and not putting it on.  Way to make a deal out of it.

Simply unprofessional.  So many of these politicians wouldn’t make it a week in the private sector.

Honestly I am not sure they knew. If you watch the long version of this video it is such an in explicable scene. The amount of pepper spray going back and forth is crazy. You can see it is stained all over the place too. Then the weirdest thing is when rioters start leaving through the doorway that is the opening the police seem to be are protecting. Then also once the guy with the baseball bat breaks through the window there are just rioters already inside hanging out. I don't even understand what I just watched.

One thing is for sure is the guy with the american flag, long hair and nike backpack smacked that officer with the flagpole like 5 times. He needs to go away for a while. It appears a couple guys help him up and then the officer seems to just walk away into the crowd.

Kind of wondering how trump diciples like Mike Lindell are doing.  After all he's been through physically and mentally.  Would hate to see him go back to doing sexual acts for crack cocaine.

Daily Mail isn’t my first choice for cutting edge reporting but saw this, which contains the video you mentioned and just  the smug look on Marjorie Taylor Greene face makes we want to say something I’ll regret.

Zip Tie Guy arrested

The F.B.I. arrested a man on Sunday who was photographed in the Senate chamber clad in military-style clothing and holding zip ties after internet researchers managed to piece together his identity.

Law enforcement officials said the man, Eric Gavelek Munchel, 30, was taken into custody in Nashville on federal charges. One of the officials said the authorities had recovered several weapons. No further details were available. Charges were expected to be announced soon.

Tennessee having a good run here

Also arrested today: Larry Rendall Brock - retired Air Force Lt. Colonel - pictured in Senate Floor in full gear, including helmet.  He was previously terminated from his position at a private airline in Ft. Worth.

Found a better longer video. He doesnt walk away into the crowd he is luckily escorted by some people. Somebody takes a big cheap shot and jumps in and hits him on the head as he is being walked away. It clearly dizzied him. That guy needs to be found. I dont think this is the officer that died. This is a Metro DC officer.

Of all the ridiculously incompetent, typo-riddled and meritless "I'm suing because I lost" lawsuits that were filed for Trump over the past two months, Eastman wrote One of the dumbest.  He's also the guy who developed the racist Harris birther theory that Newsweek stunningly published a few months ago.  He's not fit to teach anywhere outside of Trump University.

This seems somehow like an even worse idea.  It will put a falling bullet nearly certainly into someone not the intended target.
I would take that probability over the other options if I knew my teammate was getting drawn and quartered.

This is the stuff to remember when anyone says that there was no intent for violence or that Trump supporters actually support police officers. Trump supporters tried to beat to death a police officer using the American flag. They tried to crush a police officer in a door. They murdered an officer by smashing him in the head with fire extinguishers.

The one woman absolutely nailed it when she complained that the police were only supposed to shoot at BLM, not them. Support the police as long as they’re shooting black folks, try to beat the police to death with the flag when they’re preventing them from trying to storm and potentially murder politicians.
