January 6th - what will happen?

Not enough of these freedom fighters got called out for having return flights booked for January 7th.

Maybe that's because it would hurt the liberal narrative? If the rioters planned to go home on the 7th then it tends to imply that they weren't really planning to lay siege to the Capitol.

We don't need to guess their implied plans, it's not a liberal narrative to repeat word for word what these boneheads posted on their Facebook and Instagram Stories (which could be renamed Narratives, come to think of it).

Hundreds of them, and many were kind enough to record video confessions.  :grad:

Most of them went for the insurrection, wanted to get a cool selfie, and let the Patriot standing next to them do any actual work in terms of stopping the steal.  Watching them wander around inside like they were looking for a food court would have been laughable, if it happened in any other country.

The fact that they had neither the guts/brains/heart to carry out their plans only means they don't face more severe penalties, they don't get points for ineptness.

Wasn't anyone just a teensy weensy bit embarrassed at those swashbuckling rebels?  Other countries have much more committed protestors!  At the end, it looked like a Jimmy Buffet show had just ended.

It was a black mark for sure. I just think that the liberal media has been trying to blow it out of proportion, acting like it was some kind of organized insurrection, when the reality is closer to this being a small number of weekend warriors with delusions of relevance.

Ok it was a mostly unorganized insurrection.  Feel better?

Wat? The police statement didn't say that they knew his exact cause of death. There's no need to twist words here.

It said he was injured while engaging with the rioters, and it said he died from his injuries.

If you don't believe that, OK, that's your prerogative. But don't use the NYT as an excuse to impugn the police.

If you dont know the cause of death, you cant say how he died. That should be easy.

We can certainly say that his death wasn’t definitely unrelated to the injuries he sustained at the hands of the insurrectionists.

Well sure. We cant definitely say anything about his death. I mean we cant even definitely say he had injuries from the riots.

Thats what makes the story so irresponsible all the way around.

You should try and follow the news media of other countries.  They were all appalled with what was happening in the US. Definitely embarasing.

Your liberal media didn't really need to do much.

You complain about the left's hyperbole, and media's sensationalism. Yet, here you are trying your hardest to be the bizarro version of what you complain about. Your shtick is tiresome

The only hyperbole is the left's ridiculous characterization of the event.  It wasn't organized and it wasn't armed.  The left would never allow such characterization of one of their pet riots but they rush to make these same sweeping hyperbole characterization of rightwing protests.

There are two sets of completely opposite rules for reporting and characterizating events whether they are leftwing or rightwing events.  Everyone can see this.  I am not sure why it is so hard to admit.

Here is jon's list of weapons - flag pole, purse

Here is the actual list of weapons used by rioters - flag pole, baseball bat, a fire extinguisher, a wooden club, a spear, crutches, bear spray, mace, chemical irritants, stolen police shields, a wooden beam, a hockey stick, a stun gun, and knives.

Can you tell me what you would call your take on this?

I was young for Reagan, but I don't remember any hate coming from Canadian media.  The same with Bush Sr.

W definitely got hate over the whole Iraq war.  It seemed like every other country in the world knew that Iraq posed no threats regarding WMD's.

And the media (and general populations) of most other countries view Trump as a joke.

I guess the pipe bombs don't count since they didn't go off and weren't on "Capitol" grounds?

This place is s complete pant load.  Reagan was widely hated in Canada as they were far more socialistic than they even are today.  Here is how Reagan was greeted on his first visit to Canada:

President Reagan heard more heckling than applause today as he began an official visit to Canada with a pledge of cooperation on issues dividing the two neighbors.

It was Mr. Reagan's first foreign trip as President, though he visited Mexico while he was President-elect. Unlike the hundreds of demonstrators who gathered outside the Parliament to denounce what they consider United States intervention in El Salvador and negligence on pollution, Canadian officials said they were satisfied with the way the visit was going.

By the time the morning meetings ended, about 20 minutes behind schedule, the crowd on the lawn had grown to several thousand. It booed as the Presidential motorcade passed, and later an American flag was burned. Two arrests were reported.

The foreign media hated Reagan even moreso than our media.  His foreign policy was viewed as war-mongering and they feared his Star War plan was a dangerous ploy.  He was ruthlessly attacked for his AIDS policy and his position on the environment.  You are easily the snarkiest on this forum.

There were tens of thousands of protesters.  To call them armed based on a handful of objects and offenders is a lie which would be widely attacked if FoxNews did that to BLM protesters.

Let’s play the “What If” game!

Pretend for a moment in 2016 if BLM were summoned by Hillary Clinton to DC after months of her outright, unabashedly lying and fabrication of “evidence”, attacked the Capitol, beat police, entered the House Chamber in furry animal suits, with the goal to stop the naming of the President.

Yeah, it's a dumb semantic argument rooted in deep denial.

I'm a big boy. I can admit that some protesters had weapons. It's not going to give me a nervous breakdown.

There’s also the months of his stuff leading up to this. But that is exactly like Hillary in 2016, right?

What was Trump taking about with Pence and certifying the election? Why were people chanting “Hang Pence”? Why did so many of them say they were invited by the President to be there?

if this were BLM this would probably require a 2nd Fox News channel. Hannity and Tucker would tip their desks over in excitement on air

Now, was it a "real" plan? Who cares? Hundreds planned to storm that building and stop the count. They they went on like half dozen kinds of social media to declare their intentions, then helpfully gave video updates.

Hillary conceded the following morning of the election. That’s all we need to know.

Like anyone at her level the ego is out of control, that she lost to this dude has to crush her every day. For all her accomplishments this is one of the top things she will be known for.

"The mob was fed lies,"

"They were provoked by the president and other powerful people, and they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government, which they did not like."

"There is no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day,"

“A mob was assaulting the Capitol in his name. These criminals were carrying his banners, hanging his flags and screaming their loyalty to him.”

Huh.  Weird that Mitch McConnell would make all of this up, or that his his intelligence briefings don’t include all of the information that completely refutes these statements.  He should read more fantasy football message boards.

And Trump told the protestors to "stay peaceful".  Gore did not concede the election until December 12.  Trump may be the worse pile of manure ever in the white house, but the rhetoric is nothing new.  This is just the latest effort by the left to criminalize free speech when it comes from the rightwing.
