Facebook Posts claiming that Martial Law Coming (1 Viewer)

The conspiracy theories were running wild last night on social media and all sorts of people were making all types of claims. The one thing that several people had posted was a screen grab of what Trump allegedly posted before Parler was set to go down from the Team Trump account:

”I have involved the Insurrection Act of 1807, to address the treasonous rebellion conducted by Democrat and Republican lawmakers, CCP agents, the FBI, DOJ, CIA and others to undermine, corrode and dismantle the United States of America and its constitution. These entities pose a direct threat to national security. I will remain President indefinitely until all domestic enemies are arrested.”

I have not seen anything about this on anything remotely close to a media reporting site.

What is sad - the number of people who believe it to be real.

Critical thinking skills are at an all-time low in this country.

It is sad.  The people I know posting this are good hard working people.  They would do anything to help someone.  They are just fed up with the Democrats socialist agenda and the media attacking Trump for the last 4 years.  My wife just sent me a text saying her aunt (75 yo) called her and said we need to be prepared.  She said her voice was trembling as she told her.  The posts I have seen on Facebook are an entirely different group of people than her aunt.

I'd ignore it all.  There are a lot of people that refuse to let go of the idea that Trump has lost.  The internet is a cesspool right now unless you just enjoy the entertainment value of it

They are just fed up with the Democrats socialist agenda
I'll bite.

What is this agenda?  When was it enacted - such that they are "fed up"?

What is it that Trump supporters fear they lost under Obama, or will lose under Biden?  Did they lose their guns?  Their religion?

Are they afraid the US will take a leadership role in next-generation energy sources?  Are they worried that a cleaner environment will make them unhealthy?  Are they concerned that Biden might repair roads and bridges?

Are they worried that Biden will make corporations and billionaires foot more of the tax burden - thus relieving their own tax burden?

Are they worried that Biden is going to provide them with affordable healthcare?

So I decided to unblock several of the Q types I have in my facebook feed and I now understand why Trump's gotten very little done nationally the last four years.  He's personally been collecting and documenting anything/everything going on in this country with regards to human trafficking.  He's also been working on getting all the deadly 5G towers replaced with "human friendly" ones so NOW we don't have to worry about 5G towers anymore...which is weird because people keep trying to blow them up across the globe.

The main thing we all need to understand today is that there is a blackout coming between now and the 20th...hopefully it's just MSM media, but might be social media.  This one is most likely come true for some though...especially the "social media" part.  Many of these people are ONLY on these platforms that are getting shut down left/right.  So their perception is going to be the self fulfilling prophecy they've been waiting on.

The problem these days is the conspiracies are coming from people that were once normal.  All the Trump's, Flynn, General McIrney, Patrick Burn, Lynn Wood, Giuliani.

Much easier to ignore these things when they were just coming from the chans.

I've been thinking about this lately.  I truly wonder how many really believe it.  I'm skeptical of anybody who posts on social media and whether they are either a bot, bad actor or just trolling.  Don't get me wrong - I'm sure the number of believers is much greater than any of us would feel comfortable with but I don't see most of even the hardcore MAGA guys around here believing this nonsense.  I truly think we are overstating how many people really believe it.  I mean, if they really believe they Trump could do that and remain in power then what's the point in protesting and storming the Capitol?

Man, I don't know. A good friend of mine told me all of this the other day and warned me to be prepared. Someone who I would have thought never would have fallen down this rabbit hole.

Was a big eye opener for me. The people that believe in this stuff REALLY believe in it.  Freaks me out.

It's also very much bled over into interpersonal relationships. Over the weekend, after seeing a bunch of friends on my facebook feed clearly mischaracterizing the 1st Amendment and censorship, I posted what I believed to be a very gentle/neutral/non-partisan post basically saying, "hey everybody, Trump's consitutional rights aren't being violated per the 1st amendment because Twitter isn't a government actor." I now have two individuals private messaging me essentially telling me I'm a sheep in the dark and directing me to some YouTube videos. One of those was a good friend of mine from grade school. The other is a jail commander that previously I had a wonderful relationship with and we worked together a bunch to establish and promote a very successful Veterans Treatment Court. I'd consider both of these guys as otherwise intelligent and normal people.

It's frustrating because all I was trying to do was clarify a relatively straigthforward legal concept without it being partisan and now inevitably two relationships of mine (that I know of) are soured. But it's also difficult to just say nothing either as I anologize it to a mathematician gently trying to point out to others claiming that 1 + 1 = 3 when it obviously doesn't.

I think its a mistake to assume people do not hold these sincere beliefs.

It goes toward understanding other people.  You have to accept that they are being honest when they tell you what they believe - no matter how outlandish it might seem from your perspective.

Yep. And the people that believe in it are no dummies, frankly. But it's incredibly difficult to even try to have a rational and respectful conversation. I know the other person knows that I have significant legal training and experience yet they fully believe that my eyes can be opened from some guy's post on youtube who isn't even a legal professional. I mean one of the friends of mine referenced above told me that I need to follow some guy named Styxhexenhammer666 on #####ute so that I can realize where I'm wrong legally.

Same. I know an old friend of the family I thought was pretty normal. I thought he was an intelligent, level-headed dude. This guy believes it all. Crazy, but they’re everywhere!

This.  I have no clue how these people have been disenfranchised.  While they were storming the Capital, my thought was "over what?".  They haven't lost anything tangible and their biggest beef is their objection to BLM, which concerns other people's rights.  They aren't being asked to give up anything.  They haven't been attacked.  They haven't been killed by police - Heck, in many instances they were the police!  Maybe I'm oversimplifying their noble and patriotic cause, but to me it just seems like their guy lost, and they are being manipulated by Trump's lying - that's it.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying some don't believe it.  I'm just questioning how many.  As an example, how many people believed the moon landing was fake or JFK was killed by the government.  I definitely think these numbers are higher and we may all have people in our life that believe it and we never would have thought they would fall for it.  But how many is it really?  It seems like we are taking for granted that people online believe X when we really have no idea who these people are.

How is this different from "Facebook posts claiming that Hillary will be locked up" or "Facebook posts claiming that all the cannibalistic child-trafficking pedophiles are finally going to get arrested" or any other right-wing conspiracy over the last 5+ years?

An i friend in a home theater group dropped a coming civil war rant video over the weekend. By all appearances a normal family guy .

My 86-YO mother believes all of it now.  Most every day is some sort of fight over this.  She fully believes the government is tracking her money.  She watches Newsmax and OANN all day.  It’s really sad when we get some sort of a spam call, she’s convinced it’s the government checking in on her.

Its not.

I've witnessed the rapid decline of a friend who I was able to have reasonable debates about Trump/Obama as recently as last year.  COVID hit and he's spiraled downwards ever since to the point I'm legitimately concerned about him.

It's a lot like the failed Doomsday prophets.  Continue to be wrong,  just push the date forward and change the story line slightly.

I have a friend like that as well... REALLY intelligent guy who I would have Berniecrat vs Trumper debates with all the time. He's gone completely off the damn deep end, especially this past week with the "it was really ANTIFA in disguise" stuff.

I used to think nobody loved a good conspiracy theory more than me, but then Q came along and... damn

As is education, common sense, empathy, unity, and a whole host of other things.

US went from having the Greatest Generation to this in the space of about ~75 years.

To paraphrase a well-beloved fantasy football site owner, "Things happen quickly."

I want to respectfully disagree.

Q, or the concept of conspiracy theories, has always been here.  Whether its the world is flat, JFK assignation, landing on the moon, or even 9/11 folks have always been drawn into conspiracy theories.  The difference we have today is our elected senior officials agreeing and perpetuating these conspiracy theories for their own good.  They are using the teories and their constituents to drive their personal agenda.

This needs to be fixed.  Vote local and vote normal people.  Forget about parties and instead believe that politics aside, is this person normal enough to be a decent leader.

John McCain was an excellent leader who I did not agree with all of his politics.

Mitt Romney is a decent leader who I did not agree with most of his politics.

This is a big part, and a good point.  It blows my mind that there are elected officials that openly follow this Qanon junk.

I know I am a broken record, but the biggest difference is social media.   It used to be that you knew some crazy relative that nobody talked to believed this crap, but now that we have 24/7 access to that crazy relative, social media algos that are designed to amplify these theories, and people seemingly lacking the ability to tell the difference between this and fact.   It really is dangerous.
