Tonight on Hannity...Woka-cola...hate crime shmate crime (1 Viewer)

Yeah sounds awful to encourage training to help minority kids do better in math.
My girls are very good in math and I promote their well being in math and science.

I have heard the term "The dumbing down of America" Not going to happen in my family.   Instead of shunning math parents even if they are not good at math should embrace it for their kids as it helps development and a growth mindset.

This is your immediate response to GG posting this story. I’m also not trying to be confrontational here, but let’s take a look. What motive does fox have here- I think I’ve pretty clearly shown that this wasn’t a case of “inspector shuts down business and then celebrates” which is how it was portrayed all day long. Here’s the fox portrayal: Link

Video links look at all the Fox News vids.

Fox has railed against covid restrictions since day 1. They are adding fuel to the fire. They misrepresent facts daily. You say “stop the steal of life” and record everything, and that isn’t a bad idea to advocate, and I understand that you aren’t defending fox. My point is that civil servants like a health inspector shouldn’t have to record themselves doing their job. Let’s say this one did- do you think Fox would show that video? Of course not, they want people to be against covid restrictions because...well, I guess because they’ve been mostly enacted by democrats? Because they don’t want to admit that they’ve been wrong for the last year and that lives perhaps would have been saved had they reported differently? That they were so involved in helping get Trump re-elected that they downplayed the virus because that was what he was doing and now have to keep up that charade? It is stories like this that makes people in my state take guns inside the state Capitol building or plan to kidnap the governor or storm the US Capitol based on another lie.

Look at all the asterisks in your post- look at the emotion you wrote that with. You’re a smart person and capable of reflection; you want to tell me there wasn’t some anger running through that post based on the story you had just read? This is the point I’m trying to make.
Reading this post makes me chuckle. Not because I think you are wrong, in fact I totally agree with you.

I am laughing because if this was me posting this in the media criticism thread about the New York Times or CNN I can actually write the exact retort that would come.

Racist math stuff in OR, big picture....

All our institutions are built on white supremacy.  They want to literally blow it all up....take away structure in the classroom.....redefine what's a right and wrong answer....IN MATH!!!

I read one of Gutierrez's papers on it.....its a bunch of over-analyzed, academic garbage.

It will cause more confusion, and our kids will be dumber for it, imo.

Luckily, my wife and I are very involved with our kids and what is being pushed to them.

I've come to realize that all we can do is try to keep our kids grounded as these crazy agendas are pushed forward.....cuz it's going forward whether we want it to or not.

What fox has been doing is harmful to society in several ways. Here is a particular example I can point to and show as a completely agenda driven story, with the agenda being “democrats are taking your freedom with needless covid regulations, and celebrating.” There is some applicable “both sides” I’m sure, and I’ll look at any specific example you’d like to point to. The idea of uniting as a country can’t happen when one group of people believes straight lies as gospel. 500k dead and a breech of the Capitol, fox is responsible for much of it in my opinion.

Until they go to college, then the radical ideas will be pushed onto them.

That piece was a perfect example of following an agenda, but still following "the rules". I agree that the agenda was what you say. They use quotes and sequencing to still fully report the story, but present it in the manner which they wanted. They also used the embedded tweet to further the agenda. I imagine if they tweeted this out themselves, that their tweet followed the same agenda.

Tons of political stories follow this script. They didnt lie. They presented what was presented to them. They used actual quotes. But the goal is obvious.

If I complained about an agenda driven story from the NYT these are the exact defenses used. They are just presenting what was given to them. They didnt make up the quotes. Its just a tweet.

You forgot this one. They'd take the out of context quote and say words mean things. HTH.

I started a thread about whether or not the joykill police were coming for the book A Confederacy Of Dunces and was mocked for starting it. It was both unimportant and silly, I was told. You watch. Ten years give it, that book will go from being the "cool" book to own by the glitterati to the verboten book by the left. Too much fun stuff, too bawdy, too spot-on.

The Muppets are one of the greatest things that the late '60s and '70s gave us. Nothing is sacred to these people. Remember that next time Disney spews out pabulum puke about diversity or feminism or other rot. Disney officially is for #######.

Maybe it shouldn’t, but this kind of stuff scares the #### out of me.  Years ago we were told it was inconsequential, limited to just a couple of kids on college campuses, etc.  Those people were flat out wrong.  It’s all over the place now, and it’s having a noticeable effect on the country.  It has practically killed the comedy industry.

Some of you are going to have a hard time trying to be less white.
I'm going to have a hard time with self loathing based on skin color.  Especially as it applies to my children.

The agenda of left on race feels like the old saying..."two wrongs dont make a right"

DIsney has been very aggressive with sanitizing movies, like editing smoking out of classic movies, to make their content as safe as possible. And obviously a whole movie (Song of the South) has been unavailable for what 35 years.
Sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth.

I saw that in the theatres back in the 70's.  TBH, I can't even remember what it was about.

It is bad. Anytime things that arent offensive get labeled as offensive, of course it is bad.
Do you think the muppets never crossed the line?  It was the late 70s...Betting  they did quite a few jokes that wouldn’t quite make it on that type of show today.

Yes, the warning is likely stupid and bad.

As to your quote here, yeah, but whose line were they crossing? It seems to me that we need to apply a degree of historicism to otherwise innocent depictions of things. I'm not talking like the old Warner Brothers/Bugs Bunny cartoons that were overtly racist, I'm talking about the general sensibilities of the Muppets here. It was a show for kids and adults both. What exactly are they apologizing for? Making fun of Swedes? Of band members with gold teeth? Of Kermit and Piggy's dynamic? Statler and Waldorf, maybe? People need to get a little thicker skin when it comes to this stuff.

I think that the muppets arent offensive and anybody that gets offended by muppet episodes from the late 70's I never want to speak to, ever.

VIDEO: Hannity: COVID bill is a 'bailout' to states who backed Dems in 2020•Feb 22, 2021

Sean Hannity rips spending bill as a Democrat 'wish list' masquerading as COVID-19 relief.

Hannity is right. Big Blue cities via lockdowns and riot damage are looking for bailouts otherwise the DNC will lose much of their base in key areas as those politicians will get elected out otherwise.

America can't just keep printing money at this rate.

The bill is full of political pork. No one can deny that.

Well I'm offended that they took it out and they're doing this. What about my rights?  Shouldn't they be outraged that I'm offended? ;)

Why is it always one side of the aisle gets to determine what's offensive?  They're outraged at offending people as they go about offending people.

Is that supposed to be bad?

I mean, rather than “cancel” the muppets and whitewash it...they admit things depicted were wrong before and still are and we can learn from that.

So what is the problem?
Just remember what you post today MAY be deemed offensive in 20 years.  Tread lightly.

I've reached the point where people post examples like this and I honestly can't tell if it's mean to support Disney's position or serve as a reductio ad absurdum to Disney's position.
It does support the demeaning racist stereotype of Asian restaurants giving out fortune cookies.

So if I go to the local Chinese place for a to-go order, I should be offended if they include  fortune cookies?

What I post may be offensive now.  I do so knowing that and knowing it is my opinions only.

Far different than a company like Disney.

I think we already see from the reddit example posted there was at least an off-color joke about asians.  Was it that bad?  No...enough to possibly be offensive?  Yeah.

I just find it odd that people are bothered by a small warning to sort of cover their own butts.  Would you all prefer things just don't get put on air?  We here that we don't want history canceled, we should learn from it...it happened, this would let us talk about it, don't remove names from things.

Well, here a company decided to talk about it...to still air things that might bother people.  And we complain about that as well.

Seems there is no real winning with some who will be offended that others may be offended.

You are forgetting the third choice.

That they do nothing and roll their eyes at the people complaining about it.
For 18 episodes total with a disclaimer...I say get over it and have some thicker skin that you are talling others to have.  I roll my eyes at the complaints.

Is it different than warnings before shows that there may be violence?  adult situations?  flashing lights that could be sensitive to some?

Its 18 episodes...it is the opposite of cancel culture.  Its letting them air (other than some for music rights and one because the former writer who was hosting ended up going to prison for child pornography).

And they have had warnings on things before...like Peter Pan, Aladdin...but still air the content.

This is one of the biggest nothingburgers out there...but made into a big deal because some want to be outraged that others might be offended.  Its kind of comical.

Isn't the bolded the point?  You're admitting that some older shows crossed a line, yet you seem to be arguing that this particular show didn't cross a line, even without having watched the clips in question.

Taking another tack, does a warning harm anyone?  "Hey, guess what, this is an old show and has some content that some viewers might find offensive in 2021."  I'm at a loss to understand why anyone would find such a preface objectionable.  It's almost as if the "anti-SJWs" are looking for reasons to be offended in the way they claim SJWs are.

When the fundamentalists get all worked up over Harry Potter books because they talk about sorcery, all of us understand that we're dealing with mentally fragile people.  I don't doubt that their feelings of offense are real, but we get that it's best just to roll our eyes and move on.

It's kind of funny that Disney defenders (Defender?  Is Sho the only one?) don't recognize themselves as the religious fundamentalists in this episode.

Maybe we should go to TCM and demand every movie that shows smoking get edited out. The anti-SJW’s are more offended at the people who are offended.

I just am not bothered by a few seconds of a warning on a few episodes anymore than Im othered by warnings on other TV shows and movies.  Im happy to be able to easily show the content to my kids rather than just tell them about it because someone did get offended enough for it to be "cancelled".

If that makes me a defender of a company covering their butt from that crap...so be it.

We all see what you are trying to do here. It is lame.

And of course it is different. Those warnings are supposed to be real.

What I am trying to do here is laugh that there was a big deal made about this.  Because it is comical that people are upset that someone might be offended by Johnny Cash singing in front of the confederate flag. But instead of canceling the epidsode, Disney slaps a few seconds of a warning before it and that bothers some.

The warning takes away from MY EXPERIENCE.  We are tuning in to watch Waldorf and Statler crack on other muppets and escape from the Woke world.  I also don’t want to explain to my kids why your kids may be offended by Johnny Cash.

My kids aren't offended by Johnny Cash.  My kids grew up listening to Cash in the car with me.   And if a few seconds of a warning before a show starts takes away from your experience...that seems to be a you problem.  And you also won't be watching much TV because there are warnings leading into just about every show these days.

Why are you all deciding which of those warnings is real or not?

No. You are trying to be a pita. You are trying to compare the people that got upset about muppet jokes (after getting upset about tons of other dumb things and moving down the line) to people talking about those people on a message board.

I am pretty certain nobody in this thread is emailing disney to threaten to cancel their subscription if they dont remove the warning labels. Pretty sure none of the people in this thread are organizing to counteract.

So your attempts to paint people saying how dumb this is as the same, are completely out of left field.

Why are you ruining my experience with warnings on everything that moderate people find innocuous?
