I don't think citizens and academics with viewpoints and not wanting to stifle that via cancel culture is comparable with an expectation that a business can take a controversial political position and not expect consumer blowback.
Yes, its hard for me not to think that behind many of the discussions today there seems to be an undercurrent that one population of people just can't do some things or can't succeed without help. Most recent example is expecting someone to have a government issued ID to vote is a herculean obstacle.

I mean if these buildings are actually investing money, efforts, planning, etc in improving air circulation, sanitizing, etc. than that is a positive thing. If it's just paying for a sticker than that is dumb but a simple business move. In the end, it is just basic capitalism. You want more foot traffic and people visiting your physical business. The current market shows people are a little more hesitant to do that and there is likely to be a greater concern moving forward towards cleanliness, sanitation, personal space, etc. Businesses are going to look for real and for symbolic ways to make customers feel safe.

Oh yeah I can see the complaint. It's certainly playing on Asian stereotypes but also Michael is really the butt of the jokes for his idiocy. I don't think anyone is cancelling The Office though. It is really popular with Gen X, Millennials and Zoomers. The actress has a right to feel regrets for the role. It doesn't mean the show is "cancelled".

I thought that point was particularly interesting because there seems to have been a massive movement of neoconservatives like Bill Kristol into the Democratic fold over the past 6 years. Whether that's due to the odiousness of the current Right or something sinister happening is I suppose in the eye of the beholder.
Agreed. I haven't watched The Office in a while, but it seemed like all of the (what some would call) racially insensitive jokes were to show how ignorant and unintelligent Michael was. Same thing with All in the Family, where the jokes were always there to demonstrate what an ignorant bigot Archie was.
I don't get why they just don't leave Twitter. You would think with the censorship of opposing thought on these platforms there would be a mass exodus to a platform that actually supports free speech and not just left/far-left views.

That was a joke...the phone number felt intrusive. I have garbage email addresses i can use, fake phone numbers are hard.
Parler is finally back up on different servers but it was effectively neutralized. It was on its way to maybe competing in a year or 2 and then google, amazon and apple colluded to destroy them. They're basically starting at ground level again.
Cancel Culture is almost entirely a left-wing phenomena. It originated with them and they continue to push it.

Well, I don't see the right engaging in it anywhere near where the left does it. It's simply a reaction to the cancel culture in general. I mean, if you're asking someone to abide by the rules they made up, then that's not really engaging in it.
