So I have received a grand total of zero rankings so far. We still on track to get them in by 3pm pacific, 6pm eastern today, or should I delay things a bit until tomorrow (and start the head to head tourney Wed)?

Wrapping up mine now, just doing a head-to-head review with the teams above and below.

Hey guys, my NBA interest started to wane with the ascension of MJ / decline of the Bad Boys. I don’t think I would be able to render quality judging in the remaining decades so I’m going to bow out.

Sorry guys. Probably won’t be able to do results today. One of my dogs has pretty bad cancer and isn’t doing too well. I need to take care of him today.    I’ll do the results tomorrow.

As a starting point I tiered the teams based on their individual decade finishes.  Then ranked within that tier.  Then took the top of one tier vs bottom of the tier above until they couldn't "beat" the next team.  Did the same going down.   We will see how it stacks up with the consensus.

I used a mishmash of everything I had and put it all on a spreadsheet to come up with a general order and then did what you did to move them up/down.

if i am called upon to judge Best-in-Show, i plan to put my left foot in, then take me left foot out, then put my left foot in and shake it all about. i shall then proceed to do the hokey pokey and turn myself around. that's about it -

No worries. I can take the rankings later. I probably won’t have as much of a write up at this point.

Two pieces of information to consider for Best of Show rankings:

  • Sun Tzu was a Chinese general, military strategist, and writer credited as the author of The Art of War,  In it he wrote, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."
  • It is generally accepted that Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.

Who did Michael Jordan keep the closest, and therefore fear the most?  Charles Barkley.  More than any other player of the GOAT's six title run....MJ feared Charles Barkley the most and kept him close.  You should consider that, and channel your own Sun Tzu, when placing your Best Of Show team rankings.

PG Mark Price – All-time great shooter, put up 50/40/90% for his career
SG Hersey Hawkins – shot over 40% on 3’s in 8 of his first 10 seasons
SF Grant Hill – Hall of Famer played 18 seasons, finishing multiple seasons in the top 20 in points/rebounds/assists/steals/and player efficiency in the same season
PF Charles Barkley – Hall of Famer played 16 seasons, finishing in the top5 in Box +/- in eight consecutive seasons
C Brad Daugherty – The #1 overall pick that could beat smaller defenders with post moves and could step out to hit the jumper against the trees

Question for y’all.

When we do the head to head polls tomorrow, do we have people write about their matchups here or in the poll threads over in the basketball forum?

Link to post

I still need to figure out how to do a poll.

Was hoping to have 4 matchups per poll so we don’t pollute the forum, but I guess it’s just the basketball forum and nobody goes over there anyway.

My complete lack of 60s knowledge had me rank ilov80s higher than I should have it looks like.  I just went back and looked at the top scores of the 16s and he was one of the highest, figured that was the fairest way since I didn't really know his players.

Some really interesting matchups.

My favorite at first glance is how many points does Wilt score with Coleman trying to guard him, and will it be enough to make up for the MJ/Stockton vs Hazzard/Selvy backcourt matchup.

So a team I beat in the 2010's is now 2 spots above me here?  I get Lebron , but Joe Johnson, Rondo and Aldridge?  Even Love is good not great.  My team was light years better defensively than that squad and had 3 elite offensive players....I'm at a complete loss here.  Have you guys ever seen Giannis or Wade or Lillard play basketball?  Wade and Giannis are locks for the HOF and Lillard is a very likely candidate.

And a team with two completely sub-par NBA careers in Tisdale and Griffith is 3 spots better than my team?  Wikkid's team was EASILY the worst of the #1 teams by era.  Him winning the 80's was honestly a bit of a fluke with people basically giving him a pass for Griffith and Tisdale (neither one even so much as made an all-star game) and the 80's was the weakest era in our draft (note there are no other 80's teams even in the Best in Show).  For Pete's sake, the only guy on that team that made an all-defensive team was Ewing.  They wouldn't stop anyone and don't have the firepower to run away from anyone.

This contest just officially got stupid.

It's like people saw "Lebron", "Magic", "Jordan" and stopped looking at any of the other names.

Jordan couldn't win without Pippen and Grant/Rodman, LeBron couldn't win without Wade/Bosh or Love/Irving and Magic never won without Kareem and Worthy.

Teammates matter, especially when assembling all-time great teams.  I guess I should have stuck my 70's team in because KAREEM!!!111 even though it was not as good as my 2010's team.

Yes, because you have some understanding of good basketball.

I really haven't had much to complain about until now, but wow....I wouldn't have liked coming in 5th, but would have understood it...this is baffling.
