All Things Giuliani (1 Viewer)

I did not see a Giuliani thread, which is a little surprising given his antics over the last 24 months or so.

But - search warrant executed today at his NY Apartment - seizing electronic devices (phones) among other things.

Federal Investigators Execute Search Warrant at Rudy Giuliani’s Apartment

Federal investigators in Manhattan executed a search warrant on Wednesday at the Upper East Side apartment of Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who became President Donald J. Trump’s personal lawyer, stepping up a criminal investigation into Mr. Giuliani’s dealings in Ukraine, three people with knowledge of the matter said.

One of the people said the investigators had seized Mr. Giuliani’s electronic devices.

Executing a search warrant is an extraordinary move for prosecutors to take against a lawyer, let alone a lawyer for a former president, and it marks a major turning point in the long-running investigation into Mr. Giuliani.

The federal authorities have been largely focused on whether Mr. Giuliani illegally lobbied the Trump administration in 2019 on behalf of Ukrainian officials and oligarchs, who at the same time were helping Mr. Giuliani search for dirt on Mr. Trump’s political rivals, including President Biden, who was then a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The United States Attorney’s office in Manhattan and the F.B.I. had for months sought to secure a search warrant for Mr. Giuliani’s phones.

The bar to get this search warrant had to be crazy high.

This is such an important point. The predicate for this search of the premises of a lawyer who represented a president must, as a practical matter, go way beyond probable cause.

I can only imagine the incriminating information contained on those electronic devices. There is so much more to this story. Feds must have very substantial evidence of wrongdoing to justify getting, & then obtaining, permission to search devices/apt of Trump's former attorney. twitter.com/SpiroAgnewGhos…

Giuliani's attorney per the NYT: “What they did today was legal thuggery. Why would you do this to anyone, let alone someone who was the associate attorney general, United States attorney, the mayor of NYC and the personal lawyer to the 45th president."
I don't about in the legal profession, but for us laypeople Giuliani's attorney did what we call "answered his own question".

Very much so. Similar to Cohen.

Obviously he remains innocent until proven guilty but, man, this doesn't look good and I'd be considering my professional choices and purposes if a warrant was served.

I still recall thinking in 2001 how well Guiliani handled things. What a fall from grace.

Well, at least he or she isn't claiming it was illegal thuggery.

He was a pretty good US Attorney back in the day and highly regarded by his peers. Oof.

The only parallel I can think of to a man who was almost universally lauded by the American people to going all kooky-dukes is Lindbergh.
Off the top of my head:

OJ Simpson

Jose Canseco

Dr. Ben Carson (though to a much, much lesser extent and he isn't "all kooky-dukes")

Kevin Spacey

Roseann

I can't even imagine what is on his electronic devices.  Odds of him purging incriminating material?  Given he set up a press conference at a porn shop, I'd say close to zero.
How dare you - Four Seasons Landscaping is NOT a porn shop.

Didn't Rudy once make a thinly veiled warning to Trump that he wouldn't go down alone? I can't find the quote.
"I've seen things written like he's going to throw me under the bus," Giuliani said in an interview with Fox News' Ed Henry about the characterizations and comments made in the media about him and his relationship with the president. "When they say that, I say he isn't, but I have insurance."

He later tried to say he was talking about files he had on Biden in his safe 😐

MORE - Giuliani's attorney tells @ABC federal agents seized devices including a computer belonging to Giuliani's longtime assistant Joann Zafonte. Bob Costello tells me Zafonte was served with a subpoena to appear before a federal grand jury next month.

At LAST!!!  I knew this was going to happen once the rats were out of office.

Everything it took to get that search warrant means there is dirt. Now the dot connecting begins baby!!!

I suppose if they couldn't get Trump they are going to go after the underlings instead.

Biden, taking a page from the Obama administration by going after conservatives.

I'm not so sure this is legit.
In your opinion, did Trump go after Hillary?

They will talk. All of them including Flynn and Manafort if they find something else on them. Stone is the only one I’d be confident isn’t going to cooperate.
I don't know -- it's probably a lot easier to spend each night in the hoosegow when you're 100% sure a pardon is eventually on the way than when you're 100% sure no one's going to bail you out for at least three years.

Stone is a lifer. He’ll go to jail before he gives the Democrats a win.

Biden is doing what?  Obama did what?   Care to umpack that?

I’ll bite.

What makes you think this is not legit?

(I don’t think this has anything to do with Trump...at least directly.)
With the disgusting actions of the Democrats over the last 4 years this is too coincidental to be anything other than revenge/payback.  I wouldn't trust a Democrat as far as I could throw them.  They've shown us that there is no low that is too low for them.

The courts don't allow such warrants just cause a Democrat wants it.  Pushing this as nothing but partisan revenge is laughable and a huge insult the our judiciary system

You know this part of another investigation that started under Trump.

And yet we had the Mueller investigation over pee tapes, Russian hookers and collusion.

Let's not play games here.  Those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones so maybe next time think before you post.  Just a friendly tip.

This has been a long investigation that started last year, if not earlier.

Giuliani is in a bit of hot water over his dealings with Ukraine - and I doubt this is directly related to anything Trump said or did.  I think Rudy got himself in trouble all by himself here - and he is the big fish.

As numerous legal analysts have pointed out, the standard to serve a warrant on an attorney, let alone a former attorney for the President is pretty high - so that a judge is not going to sign off unless there is a compelling reason (most likely that they already have the phone logs/messages).

The fact that a grand jury is empaneled, and service of the warrant, suggests - like it did with Flynn, Cohen, Manafort, et al, that an indictment of some sort is coming.
