Catholic Churches Burning In Canada In 'Suspicious' Fires (1 Viewer)

That article is a little out of date. I believe the number is over 20 churches now. Many indigenous elders have come out and condemned the people doing this. People taking advantage of the tragedy to cause destruction. It's not helping the situation.

Residential schools are a tragedy and a stain on Canada's history. There is nothing good about what the government and church did. I cannot fault there being a lot of anger out there, but this is not the way to express it.

Punishing people today for the sins of people long since gone.  I wonder where that came from?
Where?

If you are going to make accusations, you should probably not hide behind vague ones. There has long been issues between indigenous and non-indigenous people in Canada due to the way indigenous people have been treated. I don't think it has anything to do with whatever you are talking about.

Yeah, I’ve been a little disturbed by how much folks on Reddit seem to be celebrating or enjoying the fires. The atrocities being uncovered are horrific, but this is not the solution.

You want clarification?  It is consistent  with the wokest mentality of a terrorist group like Antifa.  Is that clear enough?

George Floyd Case: After desecrating 142-year-old Cathedral in New York, rioters rip American flag, burn historic St. John’s church in Washington DC

200-year-old historic St John’s church near White House has been vandalised and set on fire

On Sunday, rioters have reportedly vandalised and set on fire an over 200-year-old historic St John’s church near the White House, following the killing of a 46-year-old black man named George Floyd by a white officer, Derek Chauvin, on May 25, reports The Washington Post. A graffiti with “The Devil is across [the] street” was also sprayed on one of the walls of the church.

In one of the videos of the incident shared online, rioters can be seen ripping down the Americal flag hanging outside the church and appear to toss the flag into a nearby fire. A glass door or window was also allegedly shattered.

“This church has been standing in our city since the early 1800s. Please avoid the area,” the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of the District of Columbia said on Twitter on Sunday.

Washington DC police said a small fire was deliberately set in the basement of the parish house, which holds offices and the church’s nursery. Under police escort, DC firefighters quickly extinguished it. Fire department spokesman Vito Maggiolo said the blaze did not appear to cause any significant damage. No one from the church was reportedly in the building when the incident took place.

St. John’s Episcopal Church was built in 1815 and its first service was Oct. 27, 1816. It’s often called the “church of the presidents.” According to the church website, every president since James Madison has attended at least one service there.

Rioters desecrate 142-year-old Cathedral in New York, Synagogue in Los Angeles with hateful graffiti

In a similar incident on Saturday, rioters had reportedly desecrated the 142-year old St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan in New York.

Two walls of the Cathedral were desecrated with hateful graffiti and the stairs were spray-painted in black with the name of the victim. The walls were defaced with words such as ‘#####’, ‘BLM (Black Lives Matter)’, NJNP (No Justice No Peace) that were written in black letters. As per the report, the sacrilegious act was committed when a mob marched past the Cathedral towards Fifth Avenue. Later, workers had scrubbed down the graffiti at the iconic cathedral.

Similarly, Synagogue Congregation Beth El on Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles was also vandalised by rioters.

“##### Israel” and “Free Palestine” graffiti appeared on the synagogue.

The Killing of George Floyd

On May 25, a 46-year-old African-American man, George Floyd was reportedly murdered by a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, who knelt on the former’s neck for 7 long minutes until his body became unresponsive. A shopkeeper had called the cops on Floyd for allegedly trying to pass a ‘potential counterfeit bill’. Despite the victim complaining about not being able to breathe, coupled with verbal protest from onlookers, the said officer was unmoved. On being taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center, Floyd was pronounced dead.

Riots in Minneapolis

On Wednesday night, Police cars were vandalised and pelted with rocks. To pacify the situation, the cops resorted to firing tear gas and rubber bullets at the frenzied mob. Windows of unmanned stores were broken. Shops were raided and looted, all in the garb of a peaceful protest. Home goods such as rugs and coffee makers were stolen and stores were set ablaze. The mob also breached the security and reached for the police precinct in the neighbourhood where Floyd died. The building was set of fire by the unruly mob, amidst slogans demanding justice for the victim. On Saturday, the riots spread across the country.

Thanks. To be honest, I assumed you were gonna blame it on "the left" so I appreciate the clarification. If you want to blame it on antifa, I am not gonna stop you. I agree that it is consistent with tactics from terrorist organizations like antifa or the proud boys. It's criminal and should be punished as such.

I had no idea this was going on.  Have not seen much coverage of this vandalism.

It isn't "going on".  It happened last year.  It was covered extensively on the news.

and it has absolutely zero to do with this thread really...

What does this have to do with Catholic churches in Canada?

What does this have to do with Catholic churches in Canada?
Leftist violence against catholic churches in Canada.  Leftist violence against catholic churches in US.  It is really hard to make any connection to the Leftist hateful rhetoric against Catholic churches.

What makes you think it is leftist violence in Canada?

Don't agree with the violence, but this has nothing whatsoever to do with antifa, BLM, "leftists," or whatever other bogeymen the usual suspects want to spew ignorant hatred at.

Hundreds (if not over a thousand) of children's' graves have been found over the last couple months at Catholic churches where native children were kidnapped and subjected to torture for the sake of "science" including forced starvation.   Over 150,000 indigenous children were kidnapped and sent to these residential schools.  This investigation has been going on since 2008, and the Canadian government issued a formal apology that year.

The increase in locating the graves is the result of the start of use of ground penetrating radar on the grounds of former residential schools.

Leftist pretty nice have a monopoly on hatred towards the catholic church, but if you are in denial that is wonderful.
I think it probably has more to do with outrage over how native children were taken away from their families and abused in schools run by the Catholic Church, rather than any type of political ideology.

That is really messed up.

I am Catholic and definitely lean left. I don’t hate the Catholic church.   I have a large family and half are Democrats and none hate the Church as far as I know.

I know a lot of people that have been critical of the Church’s handling of the sexual abuses and coverups over the years (myself included) but they certainly aren’t all Democrats.

if anyone has bashed the Catholics over the years it’s been right wing evangelical Christians (not sure I would call it hate though)

The below are the questions that immediately come to mind from thinking through your post.  While it would be great if you (or someone else) just rolled off answers, that isn’t actually an expectation.  Just asking out loud.

Are there “out in the open” militant groups trying to “evict” Catholic organizations from either “tribal lands” or the nation itself?  Such that this could either be suspected to be organized or at least done by those sympathetic to an organized cause?  Or is this likely organized by some unknown group and/or a few individuals and/or a bunch of copycats?

If there is an out in the open organization are there stated demands?

There is no indication that it is an organized movement or that any particular group is responsible.

As mentioned already, there is no organization that would be doing it. There are no demands or threats being made. If I had to guess these are angry individuals (or small groups of individuals) that are using the situation to take out their anger and calling it revenge. There is little connection between the churches, they are all over the country. Some of the churches being burned aren't Catholic and were not involved in residential schools.

From what I have seen and heard, most of the survivors of residential schools just want acknowledgement. This has been swept under the rug for way too long. They just want the church (and Canadian government) to acknowledge it and apologize for it. A group of indigenous people will be meeting with the pope in December, but it's unlikely to result in an apology. It's also fair to note that it wasn't just the Catholic Church that ran these schools. There were also residential schools run by protestant denominations.

Yes, I am sure his father knew all about this and just let it continue. WTF is wrong with you that would make you type those words and try to blame this atrocity on Trudeau's father? I say again, WTF??

To be fair, Pierre Trudeau is definitely culpable for this (among many others in the Canadian government for the last 150 years). He was leader of the government that took children away from their families and tried to remove their culture. It's very likely he knew they were treated terribly in residential schools, even if he didn't know the full extent of their abuse. Read about the "60s scoop" which was not started by him, but was a policy that his government continued.

If so, I apologize @quick-hands . Although, the need to make this a left/right thing and involve his son is a bit odd

He was prime Minister?  While this was going on.    Isn't he responsible?

Americans trying to politicize a Canadian problem, imagine that? This was guided by the church and approved by the very Catholic government. It's a horrible thing that is being uncovered here, just terrible actually, it hurts my heart.

Screw the blame Antifa/the left for everything crowd, you guys are nuts/brainwashed/idiots and a satin on your current country's issues.
