I used to love to go the movies but lately and especially since the pandemic I have no urge. I feel like most of the movies are not aimed at me or my Generation anyways and I have been bored with Marvel and the new Star Wars and DC and the last few movies I saw prior to the pandemic would be Parasite, The Irishman, Cats(hairball) and Uncut Gems, those are the last ones I saw but even back then I could go 4-6 months at times between movies.
We drive a little ways to get to an independent theater that typically charges $6 for all seats all times. They sell popcorn starting at $3 for a small and go all the way up to a colossal tub that could feed an entire row for about $8, they a lot more than M&Ms like Nerd ropes and I'm happy to support this independent theater, they had to close for almost a year thru the pandemic, I've been slow to come out and try a movie and the way things are going right now I've been avoiding crowds still.
None of the movies of late are drawing me in. I seem to have lost my love for the way violence is portrayed in movies or maybe they did it better in the past with how they filmed things. I just don't enjoy watching people go thru torture in films, now that said as you can see from my list of movies that I do watch films that contain plenty of violence but IMO the way its portrayed has a reason or purpose in most of these films and I also didn't say I loved all the ones I listed although I did find the Irishman to be a great movie and one I was glad I saw on a big screen. I don't care for horror movies and do they even make comedies anymore?
I understand many of you have kids and that probably drives some if it, I was going often with my son the last few years but then I got bored with most of the special effects one and had a much better time going to live sporting events with him or just having a meal and discussing life.
What does it cost in your area to go hit a movie on a Fri or Sat night? Did you go to the movies more often before the pandemic? Have you been at all since theaters have re-opened?
I still like to hold hands with my wife in a dark theater watching the pictures fly thru the air hitting the screen. And it's usually about that time that one of the blue hairs from Boca Del Vista who had 3/4 of the entire theater wide open but had to sit down either right in front of you or piled into your actual row and is now opening that blue hard candy and it takes a good minute or two to twist it and release it from that gnarly wrapper that keep making noise long after it's been discarded to the cinemuck covered floor of the theater.
Is there a movie you have circled on the calendar? I seem to recall one or two coming out later this year that I thought I would end up wanting to see in a theater.
