Got hearing aids for the first time today (1 Viewer)

I'm hearing every little sound.  Sounds I've never heard before.  Driving down the street I could hear the birds chirping. Ruffling of paper from a distance.   I've been married 24 years and I hope now that I can hear my wife we're not divorced in six months.

I'm due to have surgery on my nose for a severe deviated septum+, the only problem is,  with my new hearing aids,  is that I'll probably hear my nose whistle.  I make sounds I'm not proud of :)

ENT just recommended that I get them...I'm right on the edge of needing them. Will hopefully help with my bad tinnitus too.

Eta...I've been putting off calling the audiologist out of stupid stubborn pride. :bag:

What brand did you get....  open or closed back.    I was never happy with my Siemens.
These are Phonak Audeo P70-RT.  You can pair with your moble or Ipad and use the app to control volume and other settings.  Cool thing is you can use your hearing aids to answer and talk on the phone, hang up, and listen to music on your phone and ipad through the hearing aids. To answer the phone or hang up all you have to do is tap your ear a couple of times.   Also use the app to set all other settings for the hearing aids, such as noise reduction, tremble, base, adjust volume, etc.  This can also be done manually on the aids.  These cost $5,666, but I have $5,000 toward this with my insurance.

Do those come with a turbo charger?

I'm 99% sure my insurance doesn't cover anything. I'll end up with something like this coming out of my ears.

I’m going to the doctor in September to see if there’s anything they can do to help give me hearing in my right ear, which has never really worked. My insurance probably doesn’t cover much, but it’s worth a chance to see if I can get it fixed.

It's worth whatever the cost unless you are on your death bed.

so you paid $666 prior to tax then ....and they worked mysteriously and magically great?  ...hmmm

have you checked any paperwork you may had to sign?

You'll be amazed at how much you wish you never heard.
No sh**.  I already didn't wish I hear what I hear.  Just hearing paper or plastic rustling in the background sucks and that is in a basic store.   Hell, me hitting the keyboard is like a loud sound that is annoying.   I guess I have to get used to most of it.  I do however look forward to being able to hear a TV show without me saying to my wife, "what did he say?".

SO I went 2-3 year ago to the hearing doc...   Did some good testing....  Price was about $5500.

Went to Costco about 5 months ago. They did way more, indepth testing and it was $1500.  Bluetooth. Hooked up to phone. One free replacement pair for free if I lose them.

It doesn’t matter to me if insurance pays $5000 of the $5666.

Yeah thats a good reason. I do this a lot. LOL, sometimes I can't hear but I wont ask because I dont want to annoy her. I just pretend.

My right ear is fine but my left is jacked.

Positives: I can lay down on my good ear at night and pretty much not hear a peep/sleep like a baby.

Negatives: I can't locate sounds for ####. Everything sounds like its coming from the right.

Maybe they'll cover one of these
sadly, not likely.
just spoke to my insurance... they only cover 1x hearing test per year. no audiologist, unless they bill it as a specialist visit (which the ones I've called so far don't) and definitely nothing towards hearing aids.

the audiologist my ENT recommended charges $200 for the consult, which goes towards any products I buy. But it sounds like I need to make a trip to CostCO.

I'm daily reminded what a mess our health care system is.

Tagging for future reference. I’ve lost almost all hearing in my left ear from way too many years hunting/shooting without hearing protection.
