Daddy Yankee "Gasolina"

:lmao:  :towelwave: 🤮  :lmao:  :towelwave: 🤮

I remember when the stripper I was in love with tried to tell me her name was "Casarena" when that song came out. They used to play "I'm In Love With A Stripper" and we'd awkwardly laugh.

Ahhh, good times. Thank you, Gasolina.

50. All-time, bruh.

Its so hard to argue with these lists but I will say:

1) Dreams is not the best Fleetwood Mac song; and

2) Hey Ya at number 10 seems WILDLY overrated.

I could never put out a credible list like this, because 21st century hip-hop/rap is a giant blind spot for me. 21st century pop as well.

If the Rolling Stone list had nothing post year-1999 in their top 100, it would make perfect sense to me. And yet, academically, I know that whatever modern-day aficionados consider the best of the 2000s and 2010s ... those tracks probably deserve consideration for high rankings, too.

Drafts are where its at....
... and it makes me wonder ... (cue slow Jimmy Page strumming)

You think maybe the RS staff actually DID an in-house song draft? And then published the results as this list of 500? 20 drafters, 25 songs each. Wah-la.

We could actually do a draft of these 500 songs, it would be maybe most similar to a fantasy draft in that everyone knows exactly what is available, there's finite options, and at some point deep in the draft, you're picking something you don't like. Add on some pick (position) requirements and make it even more strategic.

In 2004, Rolling Stone published its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It’s one of the most widely read stories in our history, viewed hundreds of millions of times on this site. But a lot has changed since 2004; back then the iPod was relatively new, and Billie Eilish was three years old. So we’ve decided to give the list a total reboot. To create the new version of the RS 500 we convened a poll of more than 250 artists, musicians, and producers — from Angelique Kidjo to Zedd, Sam Smith to Megan Thee Stallion, M. Ward to Bill Ward — as well as figures from the music industry and leading critics and journalists. They each sent in a ranked list of their top 50 songs, and we tabulated the results.

🙄

From a "generate" clicks perspective, this should do the trick.  But, trying to do this across genres, and generations, is a bit of a fools errand.

Crazily enough, I disagree. "Hey Ya" might be the best pop song of this century.
Hey Ya is my 2nd favorite pop song behind Billie Jean, which at #44 is too low (but at least it's the top MJ song).

Fight the Power at #2 seems like a stretch based on politics.  Musically, it doesn't stack up as much as some of NWA's work in that era.

At least none of her BratPop ™️ made the list.  I can't stand her whiny, half-asleep sound.

Yeah everyone knows Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos is a much better song.
I'm not much of hip hop guy, but I know a lot of people are, and that's cool......but PE at #2 all time just seems ridiculous.  Its  like the people making the list are going for more of political statement then something that might actually come anywhere near a semi-objective list.

One is nowhere near U2's best song.
Correct

@John Maddens Lunchboxwill be the judge of that.
Exactly

Does U2 have any good songs?  Soooooo overrated
Loooook at me

Public Enemy fight the power at #2?  What the actual F?
Pretty Please with sugar on top.. Look at me

Is this list a joke, or is that really what they went with?  I mean that top ten.....really?
Hook, line and sinker

Dancing On My Own is still too low, btw
Not even the best song on that album lol. Surprised to see it so high, but happy none the less. Scandanavian Pop representing

Lists are dumb
Exactly

Rolling Stone:

Let's pick at least one song from every type/style/genre and throw it into the top 100, even if it isn't that great, and call it a list.

IN.

I do approve of that song with all of the lazy "na-na-na's" getting moved from the top 10 to barely making the top 100.
I actually got a kick out of this, but didn't know how to properly emoji it or what tone you were going for. I just assumed any old tone would do, and it was still funny.
