2022-23 NBA Thread: “you’ll never let me down like the Heat did”, Miami fan says to giant pile of cocaine (1 Viewer)

I love the way every media outlet has some fantastical trade scenario where the Lakers trade their non-existent bench players and a 1st round pick (that isn’t good until Seven years from now,) into a superstar—all because, you know, everyone is just dying to play with LBJ. 😭
every sports media outlet operates on the same basic tenet: the average fan only cares about the Lakers, Yankees and Patriots.

any chance to spin up a story about one of those franchises will take precedence over every other "story". casual fans don't care that the Rockies made a move, or that the Lions starting WR positions are up for grabs, etc.

but throw the name Lakers in a headline and suddenly millions of Kardashian fans are pinging their site.

No Grant is much better offensively.
AND defensively. RoCo is a scheme defender only. Grant can man and help

Isn't Murray a really ball dominate, high usage guard? On paper that doesn't seem to fit with Ant and KAT.

he's surprisingly not, at least when i've watched him. he often just pushes the ball around much of the game and has spurts of takeover. he could definitely wait til Ant is confusing himself and KAT stops playing well with others to kick it in.

The last GM (who created a toxic environment) really hamstrung this team.  There isn't strong ownership anymore and the new GM was trying desperately to clear the messy financial deck left by Olshey.

So, I agree with you - the window to trade Dame for maximum value has closed.  But, I have faint optimism that this iteration when it's all said and done could be fun to root for.  Dame is a living legend here.  Takes nards to deal him away and nobody in this group has it in them.

I think Lillard, Simons, Grant, OG\7th pick and Nurkic are going to be fun to watch and dangerous, but unless that 7th pick really booms or Simons makes a huge leap this team is going to have the same floor and ceiling it has had for the last 8ish years.

I would caution that a lot of Grant's increased production in Detroit looks like just increased usage. But, yeah, he can produce.

I don't think he is a 20 ppg scorer like he was in Detroit, but he can create his own shot much better than Covington(who is pretty much a spot up 3 point shooter)

I agree. I liked him in Detroit and he was actually able to take over some games I watched.

My usage comment was more me thinking out loud after looking through his Bball Ref page.

Time to dust off the Official FFA Martin / Scola Honorary Unrealistic Trade Machine

Nets get: Hayward, Rozier, Lakers 2027 1st

Hornets get: Westbrook, THT,  Lakers 2029 1st, $ for their cheap butts to pay Bridges

Lakers get: Kyrie, Joe Harris

Move the Lakers picks around as you see fit. Won’t matter, we’ll all be under water by then.
I hate this obsession the media (and obviously either Westbrook or Jordan) has with getting Russ to Charlotte. Move Rozier and Hayward for an actual big man please.

We have entered into the silly season, where the media proposed all sorts of hypothetical trades to move big names for essentially a team's entire bench. Somehow, the Celtics are odds on favorites to end up with Bradley Beal (if he intends to move on from WAS). One of the proposed trades would be Al Horford, Derrick White, Daniel Theis, Aaron Nesmith, and a future first round pick for Beal (assuming he opts in to better facilitate a trade). If he opts out and signs a max extension as part of a sign and trade, then Boston would throw in Marcus Smart to get the salaries to match. Not sure that would make sense for either team. Why would Washington want the least desirable assets from the Celtics?

Similarly, I've seen Westbrook or Irving being moved to a variety of teams where the thrid party trade partner would get stuck with players no one really wants and very little in return. I even saw one suggestion that Kyrie will opt out and sign with the Lakers on the MLE for like $6 million. Sure. Kyrie is all about winning and not about the money.

I chuckled earlier this morning when someone posted a video of Steph at an amusement park lighting it up on a three-point shooting challenge. Cause Steph needs to win a giant stuffed animal.

by lighting it up do you mean clanging every shot?

just watched that video and he made 3 of.. 12?

i want the bucks to pick pat baldwin tonight he was hurt and stunk playing for his dad in college but has upside and one hell of a three point shot and i saw him play high school ball and it would be cool to see him in the big leagues take that to the bank bromigos

My expectations are in-line with this, but Joe Blazer Fan is over the moon right now, which is always the case for this fanbase.  Still, after a rough season, it's nice to have some optimism coming into this one.  A rested Dame with a new cast of characters and a coach who couldn't do what he wanted with the last crew will probably get me to scoop up some tickets.  And really, that's all this organization wants to do - put a good and exciting team on the floor to get fannies into the seats.

Also, it was a small sample size, but I liked what I saw out of Josh Hart.  He fits Chuancey's system and should bolster this club.  They seem dialed in on drafting Shaedon Sharpe if he lasts to the #7, but he's a LONG way away from helping an NBA team.

I saw a different video where he made practically every shot. He probably tried several times and multiple people recorded / posted about it.
watched the video of him clanging most of the shots and thought "no way he walks off on that. he's going to run it back and make all of them" but the video ended.

looks like big media is trying to tank his value by cropping out the makes

Bingo.

Not to say those guys aren't solid individual players but Lillard isn't one to elevate the games of others around him. Portland hasn't lacked talent the last few years.

They're not going to do it but I'd move Lillard. JMO They'd be just as good of team with those other 4 (plus anything else they'd bring in) as they would with Lillard + those 4 others.

Simons can score at will in bunches. I think his value/worth to a team decreases substantially (as a starter) next to Lillard. :2cents:  Personally I'd pick one or the other. I'd prefer Josh Hart next to either one of them.

This is a very good day now and nothing else matters.  I legit thought you might be seriously ill or gone for good.

So glad to see you back.

Things are right with the world again.

And yeah., I'll be taking that to the bank (credit union, actually).

Just saw headline "KD mulling future"

Kyrie dismantling yet another locker room, this time driving away the 2nd best player of that era.

Incredible.

This guy makes Terrell Owens look like a saint.

Interesting.  I thought Smith was definitely going 1.1

Smith's odds had improved to -275 as of Wednesday before being passed by Banchero, who was listed by Caesars Sportsbook at -200 to be selected first overall. Smith was the second-favorite at +140 at Caesars, while Holmgren was +1,100 on Thursday, before sportsbooks began taking odds off the board.

"It's the weirdest draft market I think I've ever booked," Eric Fenstermaker, a veteran Nevada bookmaker, told ESPN's David Purdum on Wednesday.

Since Sunday afternoon, there had been more bets on Banchero to be the top pick than there had been on any other NBA market offered at Caesars Sportsbook. Online sportsbook PointsBet also reported a surge of betting interest on Banchero to go No. 1.

Can teams include TPE’s as part of a trade? Boston currently has 10 of them worth a combined $45 million. I know you can’t combine them. But can a team include them as a sweetener to give to another franchise as part of a trade?

Not that this is true, but if it is and the Wiz turn down 3 players that would be in their top 7 and possibly in their top 5 defenders (Hunter, Huerter, Collins) plus 2 first round picks; and instead stick with Beal and his 5/$250M contract ...  Sheppard needs to be fired.  It would also free them up to ship out Rui and pay for a PG.  ATL is giving them the ability to start "the process".  Gotta jump on that if it's true.

I’ve spent a month talking myself into this Chet nonsense, if Orlando takes Banchero and OKC takes Jabari I might actually be a little upset.
