2011 Broncos Training Camp Observations (1 Viewer)

Day Three, here we go!

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

one problem I do have with JT, seems winded, after plays he'll get back to huddle a little slower than others, like to see him pick it up

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Obviously JT is very raw but the tools are there, he's an effort blocker but needs to improve there in addition to learning route tree

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

JT made Darcel McBath look slow footed as he smoked him downfield over the deep middle seam - jtsuperstar80 is what we call him

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

LBs can't cover Thomas, too fast for 'em! he's not even developed as a route runner and still getting open easily

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

okay, got that done, now on to the good stuff! Guy was getting open at will again, Safeties can't cover him, so silky smooth!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

First off, I will admit my guy Julius Thomas did let me down one time (1time!) today, heard footsteps over middle and dropped the ball

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

who's ready for some Julius Thomas is the man, I told you so, LOVE!?!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

passes are getting knocked away from Green, and that will continue until he learns how to drift a little, thinks too much about RAC

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Listen, all you young WRs/TEs out there, you will be a QBs best friend if you square up and come back to the ball - just a little!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Plus..and this really bugs me...HE DOESN'T COME BACK TO THE FOOTBALL!! I feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the football away - AUUGGH!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

However, on the money hits the ground, plus he doesn't make contested catches with LB/S all over him

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I saw it on Nevada film, seeing it in person at #broncos training camp - Virgil Green will catch it wide open or high degree of difficulty

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

sorry for the obscure movie, comic book references but very little sleep for a week or so will do that to you! woo hoo!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

too often though when it was on the numbers Virgil Green would let it slip through his fingers like Grand Moff Tarkin

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Virgil Green the good: saw him make crazy, twisting catch over the middle, arms way outstretched, str8 up #spiderman pose

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

before I get to JT, Virgil Green made some nice catches today but flaws that were there at Nevada still with him at #broncos camp

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Quinn's game is about blocking...period, don't expect him to get more than 10 receptions on the season, TE targets belong to JTsuperstar80

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Richard Quinn making catches! yeah I know, I had to pick my jaw up off the ground too - but yeah he got open and caught a few

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay, one position left (I primarily watch skill position guys) the #broncos TEs coming up next - Quinn! JTsuperstar80 & Virgil too!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Give it up for WR Jamel Hamler who was able to squirt under outstretched arm of defender for more RAC - good catch, good play!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Britt Davis made the notebook today! tough catch near sideline where he got lit up but held onto the football, do that more & he'll make it

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Decker making plays all over the field, did have a drop on crossing route though, may have been only drop by him on the day

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I really believe Decker can do it all, not much speed but guy knows how to use his frame to shield defenders away from ball

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

#broncos fans love Eric Decker, guy making plays in the end zone! back pylon, 2 feet down, it's E.D. at his best, good downfield/underneath

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Eddie showing good run after the catch ability too, speed on end arounds, wheels are there!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

okay, back to Royal - man is he playing sharp, every route except option/jerk guy is getting separation, making tough catches

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Brandon Lloyd's highwire act is sooo good even Flying Graysons say 'DAMN!' -- that's a #batman reference

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Real quick on Lloyd, rinse/repeat what I've reported last 2 days, still making circus catches every day, can go up and sky for football

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Eddie Royal is back! Wow, has he really been impressive, he's working hard to be team's number 2 WR opposite Lloyd

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

who's the guy in media parking with the Steelers license plate frame??? That's me baby #gostillers

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

really rooting for LenDale to make it, and have forgiven him for wiping his feet with the Terrible Towel years ago

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Imagine a backfield (movie announcer voice) where Willis McGahee and LenDale White line up in the backfield at the same time...could happen!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I talked to LenDale in HS #chatfieldchargersbaby - the day he was drafted - & on & off since then - never have I heard him so focused

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

WATCHING LenDale he looks like a more mature runner, TALKING to LenDale he even sounds more mature - head is on his shoulders!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

so nimble for a big back, it's fun to watch #motorboat - taking his job seriously now he seems to finally 'get it'

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay, time for the BIG MAN LenDale White running hot, yes HOT for the #broncos - guy can stretch, dance, avoid trash at line of scrimmage

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Brandon Minor had a better day of practice today, showing good instincts and vision off tackle, hits hole hard

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Lance Ball can stretch it outside, stays patient, waits for blocks to develop, had a big run with good burst on sidelines

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

BTW, speaking of running hard too often I see Fannin/JJ/Ball sprinting thru after whistle, Moreno goes to whistle then jogs...curious

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Lance Ball is a good guy, avg runner, but good guy..showed good balance today, running hard on draw play

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin is not a quick twitch guy, but I did like his hop cuts today to get to the cutback lane, big man has deceptive speed

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin looks good with a lane, however still struggles to find daylight when middle is clogged, happened at NFLPA game & #broncos camp

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin got to the edge and then outran my guy Chevis Jackson in the secondary, now THAT is a big play guy...

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin was wowing the crowd on an outside play where he lane was wide open, he turned on that speed and was GONE down the sidelines, nice!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

size makes him difficult to get by and he shows good determination as a blocker

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

on to UDFA Mario Fannin, a good day! He OWNED in backs on backers drills, very important for a young RB, u must pass protect!!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

all the backs here have good/decent hands....well, except for LenDale LOL

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

as a receiver Jeremiah Johnson did a nice job of snatching passes out of the air, arms extended away from body

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

moving on.... Jeremiah Johnson was drawing applause from the crowd with his tough inside running, not the biggest but good leg drive.

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Moreno was supposed to be lighter and faster yet an old CB caught up with him from the other side of the field before he got 15yds deep

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Andre Goodman swoops in from OTHER SIDE of the field to trip him up with good lower body tackle

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he starts to strongside, bends back to inside, almost loses his feet but gets to 2nd level, 10+yds when...

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Moreno did have one big play, but even then his flaws came through...

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

bad news for a RB when he can't keep his feet after a mere shoulder, how is he going to run through arm tackles???

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

One play Moreno got to the 2nd level, LBer (Mays?) just gave him a shoulder (no wrap) and 27 goes flying off his feet like a rocket

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

DOOM made him pay, Moreno's lack of size has him getting thrown around like a rag doll

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Elvis Dumervil str8 up punished Moreno with a big hit from pursuit down the line, Moreno stretched it but failed to find/see cutback

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

first, more of the bad: Moreno was slipping when cutting, getting swallowed up by defense, and found little running room, slow to the hole

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I did like the explosion Moreno showed on that drill but he failed to carry it over to the practice field.

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

guys were hitting the sled and then White came up and DESTROYED it, basically lifting it off the ground as he ran thru, almost tumbled over

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

tackling sled set up and guys had to hit it then move to other shoulder and hit, Moreno moved it back quite a bit but nothing like LWhite

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

okay, back at it...#broncos RB coach Eric Studesville wasn't cheesing today, he was in coaching mode and working his guys good out there!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

moving on to the RBs where Moreno showed he was 'stronger' by beating up tackling sled!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

There was even one pass where Tebow threw it and nobody (not even defense) was there...NO, he was not throwing it away

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow had plenty of passes hit the dirt low, or off the mark, also drops continue to plague guys like D'Andre Goodwin

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow did keep a play alive with his feet, reversed field then flicked ball to Moreno when defense sucked up on him, Orton couldn't do that

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow is not getting many reps with the top guys like Lloyd, mostly throwing to 'end of bench guys'

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I even saw Quinn go to his 2nd and 3rd reads QUICKLY, then decisively get rid of the football, I must say looks like a diff guy out there

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Quinn did have a couple of passes hit the dirt, but looked good for the most part

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Brady Quinn really impressing out there, nice over the top release, strong arm, and DECISIVE...not afraid to challenge defense

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Champ picked off Orton at least twice today, crowd went wild every time he did

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Orton did try to go deep but was picked off by Champ, pass hung in air allowing Bailey to easily pluck it out of the air

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Orton has eyes for Brandon Lloyd, a smart move...unless Decker is wide open deep. this happened today, ED not as trusted right now I guess

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow's getting a lot of reps with the 'end of the bench' guys but they continue to let him down with more dropped passes and wrong routes

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Time for some #broncos training camp notes!!! QB position still the hot talk, Orton and Quinn with the starters, Tebow with the scout team

Moreno run from tc earlier today. Looks ok to me.

 Moreno should be faster than Rahim Moore, but he got ran down from behind by him. Not exactly awesome.

What are the odds that White sees some playing time and what role do you envision him in?

Day 4 notes done! As Cube said 'Once again it's on Kareem!'

#broncos fans, you have a special player in Thomas, enjoy watching him at #dovevalley if you make it out for practice!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

some didn't believe me when I said Thomas was the best TE at the #shrinegame - now he's running with the starters in #broncos camp

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

jtsuperstar80 went high for the pass, got crushed, ball swiped at, sandwiched between three defenders AND STILL CAUGHT IT!!!!!!!!!!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

one guy in on the JT sammich was no. 48 Braxton Kelley, straight up DESTROYED Thomas

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Thomas ovr the middle (remember he heard footsteps yesterday that lead to a drop) of end zone when he gets SMASHED in between 3 Defenders

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

OKAY, FINALE TIME HERE... Julius Thomas made some endzone catches today falling to the ground, but nothing like the biggest play of the day

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

#nfl players come from everywhere, and as Darius says 'if you can play, you can play' it's not rocket science, some guys have 'it' JT does

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

When watching practice with my good friend Darius Walker he looked over at me (after I was raving about JT) and said 'he's got it'

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I took heat from people when I said he'd go in the 5th round in my NYTimes piece about him

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

after practice today #broncos head coach John Fox called Thomas 'a fine young prospect' kudos to DEN for taking him in 4th round

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

okay, more of the same from Thomas today...using size to advantage, mismatches every time he lines up, running with 1st team again

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

a play when Green had to spin to catch a pass on his back hip today, a little Hakeem Nicks like if u ask me!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Green made more 'on the money' catches today, when degree of difficulty is high he catches everything just like...

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

but first - Virgil Green, who seems destined for the practice squad, hopefully nobody plucks him cuz he's got skills just needs time

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

HUGE PLAY OF THE DAY #broncos camp comes from Julius Thomas, just raved about him on @9overtime

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Jabar Gaffney was a great guy, but too often went into the fetal position after making a catch - can u say 0 YAC ???? #iknowyoucan

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Decker is a fan favorite and made several big catches today, who needs Gaffney??

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

need to get him a clean release off the line of scrimmage so he can get into his route quicker, doesn't hand fight well at LOS 2 beat jam

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Throw up a jump pass and Decker will go get it, knows how to fight for the ball

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Eric Decker is going to make a fine red zone target for the #broncos - size, hands, leaping ability, and great 'my ball' mentality

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

WR Marshall Williams makes it into the notebook today! got separation on slant route and Quinn hit him in stride, gathered pass in

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

back to Britt Davis really quick, Brady Quinn trusts this guy, zips it to him frequently, Davis is catching lasers out there

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

crowd got going when Dell caught a crossing route and took it to the house, big man has some jets!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Mark Dell is an interesting prospect, UDFA from Michigan State has good size/speed combination, making a few plays here and there

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Not a surprise D'Andre Goodwin probably not going to make the team, body catching passes, when he's not dropping them that is

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

#broncos reached out to David Anderson last year but were unable to pry him away from the #texans - he'll help on spec teams & as reserve WR

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

David Anderson was out at #dovevalley today, not practicing yet per new CBA rules, looks like reg dude but I know he's a player

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Britt Davis showing off his hops with a high catch today over outstretched arms, he's putting in the work to make the team #onthebubble

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

My update on Brandon Lloyd has not changed, dude is amazing, standout plays, consistent hands, circus catches, guy does it all!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay, back from doing @9overtime now to wrap up the day 4 #broncos practice report with WR/TE notes!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

okay guys, sorry to interrupt the flow but on my way to studio to do @9overtime - OOH LOOK AT ME ON TV!!! lol, ttyl w/more practice reports

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin could stick around on this team because of his size/speed combination and his ability as a receiver out of the backfield.

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin struggles to build steam to plow over guys when lane is clogged, once steam is built though watch out! reminds me of Anthony Dixon

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin not a creative guy, but continues to use those jump cuts to get downfield, no ankle breaking but light on his feet

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Fannin works good on sweeps or stretch plays, only saw one good run from him today between the tackles, needs space to explode

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Mario Fannin had a great day, big runs to the outside where he could really turn on his speed, #broncos fans excited about this kid

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Jeremiah was taking contact and holding onto the football, all while keeping his feet moving to pick up yards after contact

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Johnson knows how to set up defenders in 2nd level before he crosses the line of scrimmage, creates space for himself when/if he gets there

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Johnson knows how to set up defenders (creates his own space) and was just toying with #broncos safeties today with juke moves, shoulder dip

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Johnson showed great inside/outside running, would press the hole then bounce to outside when in 2nd level - sharp instincts

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I like the way that he stays low and picks and chooses where to put his feet, always ready to explode out of cuts

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Jeremiah Johnson can ball, backfield is crowded but would like to see him stay with the team, carries that ball high and tight

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Ball did run with some pop when asked to carry the rock in the middle, guys a little tougher to bring down than some think

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Ball has good center of gravity but lacks the speed or burst to make the corner, did see him patiently wait for blocks to develop

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Lance Ball made some good plays as a receiver, snatching ball high and away on wheel route, tries to bounce outside 2 much as a runner tho

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

plenty of positive notes about Moreno catching the ball, arms extended, hands look soft.. he's their pass catching back

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

once again we saw Moreno get swallowed up by defense, might be lack of patience as he'll go for cutback when lane is clogged

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Foxy says shapes on sizes of RBs don't matter 'I like backs that are productive'

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Foxy says after practice the addition of McGahee is no indictment on Knowshon, McGahee out there wearing no. 23 but not practicing yet

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

on to the RBs, LenDale White out of practice today with little back spasms (Foxy's words) so no #motorboat today :sadbanana:

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

one phrase sums up Adam Weber's performance so far 'got to be faster!' slow drop, slow read, slow release, kid is struggling

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I like the way Quinn is processing his reads, quick, decisive, TRUSTING WHAT HE SEES, not worried about making a mistake..thus making plays!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

in practice at least, this is a new Brady Quinn, confident, zip on his passes, quick release, attacking defense

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Brady Quinn played strong again today, which made Darius quite happy #domerhomer LOL

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Orton also tried to pick on champ, guess who won? Champ gets monstrous applause again

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Orton had some passes batted down at line of scrimmage, still looks solid, just not exciting under pressure - who knew right??

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow had his ups and downs, but most exciting plays of practice came from him and Julius Thomas, yes I would say T2 the best QB today

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

scout team WRs still letting Tebow down, today Matthew Willis let him down too with a drop on a slant, Timmy had good timing, throw on money

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow's release was nice & high today, ppl who talk about his throwing motion need an update it's not textbook but 1000x better than FL days

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I like Tebow's footwork when setting up, stays light on his feet which helps already good escapability

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow did look awkward running play action, needs more reps doing that, but straight dropback was strong

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

thought Tim Tebow improved his reads today at #broncos training camp, much smoother dropback, footwork was good

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Darius Walker used to play RB for #broncos & #texans ... had some good insight into former teammate Jeremiah Johnson, more in a bit

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay, couple of highlights from #broncos training camp today - 1) got 2 catch up with my good friend Darius Walker 2) chatted up w Joe Ellis

Day 4 notes done! As Cube said 'Once again it's on Kareem!'
Thank man, I appreciate the reports/observations... though I really can't stand the twitter format (finally scrolled to the bottom and read up first today...which was a little better) and I think you're doing yourself a disservice by not transcribing your notes to paragraph or bullet points first and then CnPing thatto the Twits. Thanks though

thanks for checking them out!

yes, I know the Twitter format isn't ideal, but again it's about time.

I don't have time to write a practice report, but I can tweet stuff out quickly. sorry if that bothers people, but it's either that or nothing.

so busy with radio/tv gigs -not just here in Denver but across the country. I have to pencil in when I'm going to take a ####.

Cecil - no pain no gain. If you are kind enough to put it out here for us (even as Twitter pastes), then shame on those who don't want to "work for it".

Really great notes, please keep them coming.

Kyle Orton is now taking all of the first-team quarterback reps at Broncos training camp.

The Denver Post is calling the Broncos' backup job a Tim Tebow versus Brady Quinn battle. If the Broncos still plan to trade Orton, they're wasting valuable starters' reps on the overpriced incumbent. Denver needs to make a quick decision on whether to move on from Orton or keep him in the lineup. He's taking up valuable cap space and time for Tebow to form a rapport with Brandon Lloyd. Related: Tim TebowSource: Denver Post Aug 1, 2:38 PM

Now Cecil teasing all of his Twitter followers by withholding information.

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay, big stuff brewing in #Broncos land - maybe comes thru maybe not but HUGE for all involved if true - stay tuned

Geez...sounds like the NFL is going to have to add a dozen extra spots to the AFC pro-bowl team to accomodate all the Bronco studs.

Gotta be an Orton trade.
need update.

As a Bronco fan, and hearing how things have been going in camp, I am not sure I want him traded. All reports are that Tebow is, with few exceptions, looking more like the 3rd stringer than 1st, and that Orton is far and away the best QB in practice. He *might* look better in game than in practice, but I am not holding my breath.

Unrelated note: It seems we're picking up every TE alive... I assume most of these guys are gonna block for the run game.

Day 5 notes here (no practice today)

Cecil Lammey

Then Franklin went against Von Miller and got beat like a pinata - Miller too fast too strong for DEEBO

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

second time around Ayers went at him with out/spin in move, Franklin straight up stoned him, no chance

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

speaking of schooled, DON'T MESS WITH DEEBO - Orlando Franklin is a mauler, almost hip tossed Robert Ayers in the pit

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Jeremy Jarmon schooled Rex (who is Zane?) Beadles in the pit, too powerful, too quick for little TRex arms

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Joe Mays couldn't hang w JTsuperstar80 downfield, but did cover ERoyal in the end zone and picked off a pass, man was he excited!

Daniel Coats made it into the notebook and Green did not if that tells u anything! Coats had a sliding catch near the sideline, next!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Addition of Dante Rosario could push Green off the roster, maybe on PS where I would expect him to be nabbed

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

nondescript day from #broncos rookie TE Virgil Green - didn't even make 1 note about him during practice

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I don't call him JTsuperstar80 for no reason - the kid is the truth, I imagine this is what #chargers media saw in a young Gates

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

I cannot tell you how raw this kid is, but the upside is huge, just out of this world as he continues to develop after only 2 yrs of playing

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

somewhere Bill Walton was saying 'GET A REBOUND!' and JTsuperstar80 did it!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

want to know JTsuperstar80's best play of the day? pass in late, ball pops up from JT, he waits then REBOUNDS the pass away from defenders

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

JTsuperstar80 wasn't done there, ran a ####ing corner route to back EZ plyon TD, easy catch over the shoulder, gr8 ball tracking ability

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he was being 'covered' by Mike Mohamed on that play, rook on rook punishment!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

JTsuperstar80 got open on a crossing route, pass comes in a 'little' ahead and he has the BURST to get to the ball in stride - amazing play

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Unlike Virgil Green, JTsuperstar80 knows how to do the little things, like coming back to the football to help his QB

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

More than just a deep threat he can catch routes over the middle too, knows how to 'box out' defenders use his frame to his advantage

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he got open deep on Joe Mays, not a surprise as Mays struggles to stay with a guy in coverage, give QB time JTsuperstar80 will get open

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

JTsuperstar80 doesn't even know what he's doing yet and is still putting on a show! Imagine when he 'gets it' OMG this guy is a beast

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Julius Thomas has gone from 4th rd pick, to running with 1st team, to getting double coverage in 5 days

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

TEs next, then I have notes from The Pit! just a few, and excerpts from my interview with Chevis Jackson

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

the only note I have on Jamel Hamler is that he dropped a pass, not good - next story, NEXT @adamcarolla drop

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Decker has good hand strength and the vertical to be good red zone target, jump pass his way please Mr. Fox

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Decker is smooth when he's in to his route just needs to get clean release in order to be effective

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Champ would just casually knock the passes away that were intended for Decker - not there yet kid

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Eric Decker continues to impress but he's not beating out Royal for starting job so far, was matched up against Champ at times - no contest

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Eddie took a short pass yesterday on a drag route to the house as he was breaking ankles to get to the pylon, ducked in & crossed the plane

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Eddie Royal continues to impress at #broncos training camp - guy is darting all over the field, he's your starter opposite $$$Ll

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Goodwin did have one long TD on outside route, he was able to turn up sideline and get to top speed

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

D'Andre Goodwin not making many plays, drops contested catches, lacks upper body strength to rip ball away from defender

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

every single target so important for a guy like Dell, maybe not active but I say keep him around on PS to develop, there's some talent there

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

speaking of doing what it takes, there's Mark Dell UDFA from Michigan State, big target, smooth athlete & making tough catches!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Willis also developing as a route runner, will come back to the ball!!!! Makes him a QBs best friend when he does the little things

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Got the length, vertical, and hand strength u want, Willis hungry for more playing time

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Matthew Willis doing his best to earn a roster spot, making low catch (from Quinn), went up high for one on side (from Tebow)

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Brandon Lloyd from here on out will be referred to as $$$Ll - because dude is money, nothing more to say!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

got some notes from my interview with Chevis Jackson I'll post after practice report is done #bayoubengalsbaby

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

for those of you that don't know, Chevis interviewed me & @sigmundbloom after 'The Worlds Worst Workout' w/trainer superstar TGaines

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

before I get to WR/TEs let me give a shout out to my guy Chevis Jackson! making plays in TC, got to catch up w/him after practice

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

1 note on Brandon Minor, kid does know how to run thru trash at the LOS, good feet just no fast or quick enough

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

However Fannin (always will?) struggles when lane is clogged, he's a momentum runner that needs room to build speed - that's the book on him

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

okay, Mario Fannin update, just like $$$ Lloyd, daily report is the same - guy is GREAT in space where he can use his speed

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

So yes, Moreno had a GOOD day, best by far...and Jeremiah Johnson still looked better - remember that in your fantasy drafts

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

for all you Moreno believers I want you to read that desc again.... Moreno on similar run sought CONTACT 7yd gain, JJ sought DAYLIGHT = TD

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Jeremiah Johnson's best play was OT Right, goes in then bursts out, breaks off juke step, S bites, he takes it to the endzone

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

unlike Lance Ball, Johnson can bounce it outside and did so effectively yesterday, still their best inside/out runner

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Johnson is more quick than fast, but has good instincts and looks great in zone/read system, patient with burst in that scheme is $$$

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

He understands how good he has to look and is on the attack every day, good leg drive and YAcontact yesterday

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

the best back in Denver over all the practices (not just 1) is Jeremiah Johnson, another standout day

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

He did try a little shake and bake on defender (Moore?) in the hole....didn't work, Ball needs to work inside & use pad level for YAcontact

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Ball has good low center of gravity and looks better than Moreno on inside runs, however lacks creativity, elusiveness

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Ball needs to know that in zone system the outside is the worst place to go when original hole is not there, cutback!!!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

speaking of needing patience there's Lance Ball next - guy keeps trying to bounce runs outside! LOL, that is not his game at all

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

final point on Moreno, was running sprints from sideline to sideline while spec teams practice going on, using JUGS machine after practice

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he has a fast processor, just needs to 'slow down' in order to 'look faster' - someone get him YODA cause he needs PATIENCE

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Moreno commented in interview on @TheTicketDenver the great thing about zone system is a hole will always be there

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

while Moreno had a good day as a runner he had his worst day as a receiver, dropping several passes, then clapping his hands in disgust

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

RBs sometimes are better off just taking what the defense gives them, esp when they lack creativity as a runner, Moreno's done that every yr

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Moreno wants to prove that he's quicker/faster but needs better timing if he truly wants to take advantage

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

He had better leg drive and kept his legs churning after contact, however patience still is lacking, he wants to do too much on every carry

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he was still tackled, but it was nice to see him be the aggressor, Moore not known for hitting though, QCarter otoh....

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Moreno was attacking the defense, and on a cutback got to 2nd level where he met Rahim Moore 5yds in, POP Moreno delivered the blow

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Moreno was fired up yesterday, sight of McGahee on sidelines again perhaps motivating him? best day of practice by far

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

on to the RBs...it was a GOOD DAY FOR MORENO! (finally)

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

while spec teams was working Tebow would go to the other field by himself to throw and practice dropbacks, no standing around here!

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he also recognized shifts in the defense and would adjust the play/his blockers accordingly, presnap recognition huge for young QB

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

LOTS of things to like about Tebow, and teammates appreciate his work, like getting out in front as a blocker on end around

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Dell was hit as ball arrived, ball popped up in the air and it was picked off by my guy Syd'quan Thompson

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

he was a beat late on EZ pass to Mark Dell, I give him credit he saw the open spot early but waited just a 'little' too long to throw it

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

His reads were quicker, but he needs to trust himself more as a passer, being a beat late leads to contested passes or interceptions

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow seemed a 'beat' late on a few throws yesterday, didn't have that good rhythm like Quinn has had in most practices

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

had a pass leave his hand wrong which went high on sideline route, but Matthew Willis skied to get the ball

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Tebow time! #broncos fans go nuts even when he checks down to RB out of the backfield

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Orton is more comfortable in the pocket and I wonder if he'll look as good when rush can hit him...preseason games important for all 3 QBs

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

However, Orton did roll out a few times and hit Lloyd on the run, to which media spouted 'I thought he couldn't run!'

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

QB needs to move subtly to open passing lane, seems like Orton is cement footed on some throws (again, surprise, surprise)

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

more of Orton's passes have been batted down at the LOS than any other QB, not sure why that is, but perhaps it's his lock on $$$ Lloyd

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay, Orton running with the 1s exclusively yesterday, looking confident - even overconfident on some plays, keeps going after Champ=notsmrt

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

That play gave him confidence and he was looking good after that. Patient thru reads, good rhythm as a passer, lots of zip

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Quinn dropped back, slipped, then bounced up and found Mark Dell, zipped it between 2 defenders! old Brady wouldn't have done that

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

His passes were hitting low and he wasn't in sync with his WRs early on, but Quinn bounced back after one play

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Overall I like Quinn more than the other 2 (i know, surprise, surprise) so yesterday was a small step back for him

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

starting with the QBs, this was the first day I saw Brady Quinn be inconsistent, started off day slow but got better as practice went on

Cecil Lammey

cecillammey Cecil Lammey

Okay!!! Day 5 #broncos training camp report time! Sorry for posting late, was exhausted last night and passed out in front of computer

Sold - meaning I am buying. After first reading about JTsuperstar80 in the NYT's 5th Down Blog and then the last few days on the twitter feeds from camp, I just picked him up in my dynasty.

:thumbup:you're going to love him!I think ultimately Foxy's offense could hold him back, create a ceiling for his production. Hopefully Mike McCoy will see that he's their 3rd best option in the passing game.

I just traded for Julius. I'm a sucker for training camp hype. I'm sure I overpaid but I needed a 2nd tight end and the potential of a young Antonio gates was too much for me to bear.

7 Minutes ago via Schefter - Broncos sign DE Ty Warren from NE. Linky

The D could look decent for once.
They have never had luck signing D-linemen from other teams. Those Cleveland rejects they overpaid for still sting. Would rather see them sign younger linemen with untapped upside.
2005 browncos D-line took Denver to AFCCG...ranked 2nd in the league against the run.also, Broncos now have bunkley(27), Marcus Thomas(25), Jeremy Jarmon(23), and Jeremy Beal(23). here's some younger linemen with untapped upside.

Well, IIRC those Browns guys weren't exactly known as a great D line. And let me clarify, by decent I mean NOT LAST. They can't help but be better, and to moleculo's point, there is a decent chunk of young talent to compliment some older players. At least they have size now.

Some serious man-love for JT in here...can you quiet it down for a day or two until my pick comes up in a post-rookie FA draft and some auctions?

Got him in 2 already, trying for the other 4 but somebody else has him in 1.

He just went at 12.07...3 picks before me.../rantBack to your scheduled inside info on the Broncos.Cecil - what are Quinn's chances of actually winning the job? You keep saying he's doing great.

Quinn is surprising me for sure, and I'm still shocked the Broncos are giving him a fair look (staying true to their word). Bottom line: he'll have to do it in a game. he looked bad in the preseason last year and will have to show up as the 'New and Improved' Brady Quinn if he's going to position himself as the starter. Blame his lack of development last year on McDaniels. guy would send Brady to the weight room after media portion of practices during the week was over. he almost got zero reps during the entire season, and was very frustrated. Playing with a chip on his shoulder now, we'll see if he turns into the 'gamer' John Fox wants.

Cecil, would you hang on to Virgil Green in a deepish dynasty league? Think there could be something there in the next 3 years?

Green is certainly worth picking up in deeper leagues, but his ceiling is low. It's such a night and day difference seeing he and JT side by side. Thomas is running with the 1s already, Green is lucky to get targets with the scout team. I have a feeling the Broncos are going to try to sneak him through to the practice squad. If that happens then he'll surely get nabbed by another team. Green's ceiling may always be low. There's very little room for development to his game, and his lack of true tools is showing up loud and clear in camp.

Sneak who? JT or Green?

maybe old news, but announced that orton will not be traded and has been informed he will be starter (source - lombardi)...

setback (at least temporary) for legions of tebowites...

* from a PFT article, lombardi goes further in what sounds like conjecture... not sure i agree, but for what it is worth (not a huge shock that fox might initially prefer a veteran QB)...

"Lombardi doesn’t think Tebow will ultimately get a fair chance in Denver.

“He’s in limbo right now. I said all offseason I thought Tim Tebow wasn’t in their plans. . . I think ultimately he is not in their plans,” he said."

yes, Green. Sorry for any confusion.

I consider Michael a friend and talk to him frequently. However, he's been anti-Tebow from day one and I believe he's putting some conjecture into his reporting. Tebow has support in the building, but it's clear from his lack of polish he's going to be more of a project than some had initially thought.

Rookie TE Julius Thomas shining for Broncos at training camp

By Jeff Legwold

The Denver Post

The Broncos' football decision-makers have continually said their goal this offseason was to get younger and more athletic.

Some of that was on display Wednesday as rookie tight end Julius Thomas finished several plays in the endzone, including catching a scoring pass from each of the team's top three quarterbacks in various drills. His work highlighted the day.

Rookie running back Mario Fannin, who at 228 pounds was one of the fastest running backs available in this year's draft, flashed his ability to finish plays if he gets a little room to work during 9-on-7 run-game drills.

Lowlight of the day

Alas, training camp giveth and training camp taketh away. While Mario Fannin showed the good stuff, he also put the ball on the ground during a goal-line drill after a quality hit from safety David Bruton.

Ball security was the biggest question surrounding Fannin leading up to the draft and it will determine how much he can get himself into the Broncos offense. It will bear watching in the preseason games.

The offense lost another fumble during the same goal-line segment as well when the second-team group was inside the 10-yard line.

To quote

"One thing I didn't think through was they don't wear those at meals."

—Broncos head coach John Fox on why having the players" names on their helmets has been helpful early on in camp given all of the team's transactions.

Position battle

The Broncos kept their word. Even as folks were wondering when they would sign a defensive tackle in free agency as the big names went off the board to other teams, they promised the moves would be coming.

They have come, with the signings of Ryan McBean, Marcus Thomas and Ty Warren to go with the trade for Brodrick Bunkley. Warren isn't even due to arrive until Thursday, but the Broncos have quickly shown they're going to waste no time in putting the new guys to work in the rotation.

In his first day on the field Bunkley got plenty of work with the both the starters and the second-team defense in Wednesday's practice. Warren figures to move into the lineup quickly as well.

And that could mean players like Kevin Vickerson and Louis Leonard, who have been lining up as the starting defensive tackles before the reinforcements arrived, will now have to battle for the practice reps.

The same goes for McBean and Thomas, who both started games for the Broncos last year.

Because now the Broncos have far more defensive tackles than they will have roster spots at the position when September rolls around.

Quarterback watch

Kyle Orton — Ran the starting offense and best throw of the day may have gone to rookie tight end Julius Thomas for a touchdown in the two-minute drill.

Tim Tebow — Worked the No. 2 offense for the most, moved the team in two-minute drill, finishing with scoring pass to Britt Davis.

Brady Quinn — Worked with second-team offense in some drills. Was intercepted by rookie Nate Irving in two-minute work.

Adam Weber — May have thrown his best ball of camp for long scoring play to D'Andre Goodwin.

I am surprised there's not a separate thread on this, but Lombardi's sharing his opinion on Tebow as if it were bonafide breaking news. He's claiming on NFLN that Tebow is not in the Broncos plans. That Fox and Elway have done a 180 degree turn and now are backing Orton. And teammates like Brandon Lloyd applaud the move. Tebow is now persona non grata after just a week ago when he was the future franchise QB. What gives? Is Lombardi just full of it, or is there really any fire to this smoke? This is all very confusing, and I tend to not believe Lombardi, if for no other reason as to think that any NFL franchise could be this chaotic.

as I read through this post I am simply dumbstruck that so many felt the need to bash the twitter format and seemingly Cecil for using it. He is providing valuable insight and doing us all a favor. I am surprised at the lack of gratitude. I for one appreciate it and am looking forward to more!
