Some posters I have on ignore (1 Viewer)

You know what this thread makes me wanna do? (Besides puke, that is!) It makes me want to go out and buy another half dozen AR-15s to add to my arsenal! Think I'm gonna do that this weekend. The United States Constitution grants all Americans a God-given right to own firearms. And when you try to take that away, or try to tell me how many rounds I can have, or that I have to report to some federal authority, that's whn I say, try it! When the government becomes a dictatorship, that's when we fight back. Somebody has to. If it takes armed resistance to keep freedom afloat, then so be it. And in case any of you think I'm overstating the threat, here's a little history: the Jews of Germany were a well-armed group who believed, above all things, in gun rights, because the Bible told them so. The first thing Hitler did when he took power in 1937 was seize all of the Jew guns. A few days later, they were all put to death in gas chambers. All of this is well-documented. We gun-owners are the Jews of the 21st century. Only this time we're not going to go away quietly.
I keep reading all these lies and misunderstandings about Adolf Hitler in nearly every political thread. So I decided it was important to set the record straight:

3. Hitler did not seize guns. (This is argued by the NRA and its supporters.) In fact, private gun ownership actually increased during the Third Reich as restrictions were lifted which had been placed on gun owners during the Weimar regime. It is true that Jews were restricted from owning guns, but this did not occur until several years after the Nuremberg laws (expelling Jews from German social life) were already in place, and it was largely for show, since extremely few of Germany's Jews were armed in the first place.
Sucks when your alias is spreading false information and then you're forced to clean up the mess. :lmao:
Wow. Your sarcasm meter is well below zero.
I guess so because I'm not seeing it. Which part was supposed to be sarcastic?

Why should anyone really bother you in an internet discussion forum? No matter what they post? Never gotten this.
If you understood why, then you'd probably stop doing things that bother people. You do it because you don't get it.
Oh I'm sure I annoy people. From time to time, I get annoyed. Sometimes YOU annoy me (not often.) A few posters used to REALLY annoy me (Clinton, LHUCKS in particular.)

But annoying someone is not the same as really bothering them. Again, I have trouble seeing how anyone here can really bother somebody else.

I think I had Hucks on ignore for about 30 seconds, before thinking to myself, "really?"
I've never understood why exactly we have an ignore function in this forum. As someone wrote earlier, do you really need the technology to ignore somebody? Can't you just do it yourself?

When you place somebody on ignore, you are effectively acknowledging that they really bother you. Why should anyone really bother you in an internet discussion forum? No matter what they post? Never gotten this.
No offense Tim, but from what I read on these forums, if we were all standing in a room having these conversations, you would be the first one to get a rap on the mouth.

"bother" is the third word on the list of synonyms for "annoy": http://thesaurus.com/browse/annoy

Yeah, but "really bothering" is different.

While I don't have anyone on ignore, I can see the use of it. Not everyone has the time to sift through the BS.
Really? You don't like what you're reading, you scroll down. How long does that take?
Well, it depends. I often glance over who the poster is and just start reading the post. Half way through, I'm asking myself why I'm reading this. I scroll up to see who the author is and realize it happens on every one of their posts. Also, BFS constantly posts multiple posts in a row. Every time I'm able to scroll right past the condensed versions, it reaffirms my decision.

Hmm. Actually, it's hard to look at the Burton post and figure out which part ISN'T sarcastic. Perhaps the part about the Jews being a well-armed group because the Bible told them so? Or Hitler taking power in 1937? Or that the day after the guns were seized, the Jews were all sent to concentration camps? The whole thing is designed to be a complete mockery which I figured would be apparent to anyone- but I guess not.

My whole point is that we're not standing in a room.

Damnit to Hell! I was typing the below response to the Tim vs. MC Island Companion thread when the thread was unexpectedly locked. So I'll just post the response here...

The cold, hard reality is that if we're stranded together for life with absolutley no chance of rescue, the other person will eventually become my girlfriend. (Yeah, I'm not happy about it either, but we must be realistic.) So, if possible, I'd like to play some sort of Dating Game with Tim and MC before picking.

You can't see how you/any of us can get under another's skin where they would like to reach into the computer and pummel us.

My guess is its just the opposite of the feeling you get when you post and others respond.

Not really no. I've always been amused by the people who claim to take what people write in this place so seriously. (I use the word "claim" because I'm skeptical of them as well.)

I've found this board to be a more enjoyable place if I avoid his posts, but even that is difficult given the sheer volume of his posts.
I don't go this far. I would say the board is more enjoyable to me if I avoid seriously engaging with him. Due to his issues with consistency, proclivity to straw-man fallacies, and lack of depth on many topics it is a very frustrating experience. However, he is often an interesting read. Tim also seems like a good dude and has a decent sense of humor.

I think he fishes a lot, but he does it to encourage discussion on interesting topic. Often he harms those discussions by relying on hyperbole and intentionally proactive statements.

When I think of posters that harm the board, I think of those who are constantly in look-at-me mode. I think of those who live to pick fights over silly subjects. Those who don't do anything but use the same shtick over and over again. Tim is just annoying.

I understand this, but I like to think that most people here are OK people IRL. Anonymity allows for something different.

No shtick, I'm sorry for anything negative I said to you earlier this year... I really respect you as a poster, a lot of quality in what you write

Burton sure posts in a lot of timscochet threads. I wonder if it was an attempt to keep the discussion going or maybe he really is that crazy?
Tim also had the Ayn Rand Fan alias.

Here he starts a thread as Ayn Rand Fan, the second post in the thread is him responding to it as Timschochet, and the third post is him getting called out on it: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=442950
:lmao:

So Awesome. More of this please.

because actually reading some people's posts can be upsetting/annoying. you never got upset reading LHUCKS drivel?

it's the same reason I don't get involved in politics threads here.

I can choose not to go into thread topics that don't interest me. the ignore function attempts to allow this same control over posters that you have no interest in reading.

No worries, barely even remember. I thought you were LHUCKS for about a week, so that must have been pretty insulting. :)

Tim is full of it on this. He's threatened on multiple occasions to quit the board because he felt he was being picked on. His pretending that posts don't affect people is ridiculous.

:goodposting:

Politics and religion are non-starters for me on a freaking message board.

At this point, I pretty much go into the same threads I always go into- all of which have a regular and respectful group of posters. And Christo.

Hucks started coming into the soccer thread- where I spend most of my time- and absolutely shat all over it. I do my best to just avoid most of this bs, but he made it impossible. I was this close to using the ignore button (which I think is silly) but then he thankfully got perma-banned.

Really? You don't like what you're reading, you scroll down. How long does that take?
If it is GordonGekko with his lengthy 20+ paragraph rants it takes a long time. I would develop carpal tunnel syndrome if I didn't have Gordon (and a few other verbose posters) on ignore.

No offense Tim, but from what I read on these forums, if we were all standing in a room having these conversations, you would be the first one to get a rap on the mouth.
EXACTLY!

I told him he had to wait in line and that you were first. I always try to tell my kids that punctuality is important.

I'm just saying that if you have no interest in reading somebody you can just not read that person. Scroll down.
why is that better than just ignoring?

it's easier to get sucked into reading something you know is going to suck.

anyway, I wish more people would ignore people they don't like. would result in less discord here.

People have certain expectations based on posts. I have met several posters IRL. Couple of dozen altogether. I always wonder how many are surprised when they meet me and I don't start a political conversation or whatever. In person I have a dry sarcastic humor, I tend to be a bit reserved, and I only discuss issue topics if someone else brings them up to me directly. My guess is Tim would be a bit different in person from what his online persona seems to suggest.

He would never sell any houses if it weren't different than here. Clients would be hurling themselves out of his car to get away.

I'm surprised the thread was locked. I've seen far worse threads than that continue to live on.

not when one of the least stable members of the board is openly talking about killing and torturing other people in it.

K4 off her meds again?

This has me wondering. .. Can the admins see who is ignored? Like do you get a report that poster X has 10 ignores or something.

That could be fun.

so when you said you've "never gotten this" you were lying and you used to get it but now you don't? or were you just saying that to get discussion going on the pros and cons of the ignore function.

Ohhhh...

So posting falsehoods with an alias = sarcasm

What does correcting these falsehoods with a separate thread equal?

My guess is Tim would be a bit different in person from what his online persona seems to suggest.
My guess would be the opposite but I could be wrong.

I happened to be in a redraft league with MOP some years ago and met him in person several times and he was pretty much the same personality as we saw here in his posts (actually his posts in this forum were not as over-the-top as he was in real life for the 3 year period I was acquainted with him).

That doesn't surprise me, but MOP pretty much shared everything about himself here so it was probably hard to be anyone else.

Never gotten this.
because actually reading some people's posts can be upsetting/annoying. you never got upset reading LHUCKS drivel?it's the same reason I don't get involved in politics threads here.

I can choose not to go into thread topics that don't interest me. the ignore function attempts to allow this same control over posters that you have no interest in reading.
I'm just saying that if you have no interest in reading somebody you can just not read that person. Scroll down.
With the ignore function, no need to scroll at all.

It saves time, especially if you are on a mobile device. HTH

Wait, MoP is real? He isn't some sort of shtick robot? That was real? Really? Really real? No?
