****OFFICIAL**** Washington Redskins 2007 Season Thread (1 Viewer)

Wednesday practice/injury update:

Brandon Lloyd injured his shoulder when he hit the ground on the last play of practice, Coach Joe said. The receiver left The Park in a sling and was going for further testing.

Receivers Santana Moss and James Thrash missed practice as well - Thrash is definitely out and Moss is looking very iffy to play - some Reche Caldwell, come on down. Looks like Randle El and McCardell could be starting, with Caldwell as the No. 3. Burt Toler is on the practice squad, and he might end up activated, I imagine, given all these injuries. (Can't help feeling bad for Mike Espy through all of this. He was ready to soldify his place, I think, tore up his knee in camp and missed what could have been a breakthrough season him. He would have ended up with a lot of PT with all these injuries.).

LB Marcus Washington (hamstring) practiced fully, so barring a setback that's a good sign that he might be able to play. CB Fred Smoot (hamstring) was limited in practice. Sean Taylor (knee) and Pete Kendall (knees) also missed practice.

Redskins WR Brandon Lloyd breaks collarbone, out at least 6 weeks

Updated: November 14, 2007, 5:51 PM ET

ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington Redskins receiver Brandon Lloyd broke his collarbone Wednesday and will be sidelined at least six weeks, the latest setback in his disappointing tenure in the nation's capital.

Coach Joe Gibbs said Lloyd was hurt on the last play of practice when he caught a ball in the end zone. There was no other player involved.

"He landed on his shoulder and drove his shoulder into the ground," trainer Bubba Tyer said.

The force of the landing caused a complete break of the clavicle. Lloyd's right shoulder was put in a sling, but he will not require surgery.
And thus ends Brandon Lloyd's career as a Redskin. Lloyd, Moss, and Thrash are out. Gibbs just called me and wants me to play WR this week.

I was planning on making sure I was home by 4 PM Sunday from my vacation. Now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll take my time driving back and just watch the game on TIVO in fast forward Sunday evening. This one can't be pretty.

The line is currently between Dallas -10.5 and Dallas -11.5. I really don't see how it's going to be that close.

A Redskins fan living in Texas. Yea, this weekend won't suck much. I already pre-emptively told the GF that I will not be going anywhere to watch the game. It'll be bad enough without being surrounded by Cowpuke fans.

Would someone ming explaining to me how Brandon Lloyd did anything remotely vigorous enough to break any bone? Was he hit by a meteorite?

Good riddance to that POS.

I think you could do a lot worse than having ARE and McCardell as your starters. I'm pretty comfortable going into this game with them. The problem is the depth behind them, or lack thereof. Caldwell is the only other healthy receiver that's had any playing time. Looks like Jimmy Farris is getting signed. He's familiar with the team, but he hasn't been playing football for a while. Burl Toler is on the practice squad. Is it me, or has the injury bug bit us harder than most other teams this year?

It's been bad. The o-line is the worst part. I'm more worried about our defense without Taylor. Teams weren't even bothering to throw downfield with him at FS this year. They weren't even trying. No sooner does he leave the Philly game then McNabb hits a deep post.

This ain't going to be pretty in Dallas on Sunday. :goodposting:

What is the status of the Redskins offensive line? I know they have been decimated with injuries this year, I'm just not aware of the full extent of it. Portis has stuggled a good bit of the year, but seems to be playing better lately - are the line replacements gelling, or is the rushing production more a result of facing poor rushing defenses?

LT- Samuels (rock solid all year)LG - Kendall (acquired in August, solid all year)

C - Rabach (missed one game due to injury, but back and playing well)

RG - Pucillo (he's never played guard, but he replaced Randy Thomas who is a very underrated RG; mediocre but improving)

RT - Wade (replaced Jansen after week 1; he played poorly to my surprise, but it may be that we overestimated his work last year due to Thomas' presence next to him)

The right side had been a liability for a number of weeks, but I believe it has improved greatly over the last couple of weeks. They are still having great success running left, so the play calling continues to be left-heavy, but recently, runs to the right have been pretty consistently successful, as well. I hope we see some more balance in the right/left play calling in the coming weeks so opposing Ds can't tee off on the left side. Here's a Randy Thomas update JLC had in his weekly web chat:

West Chester, Pa.: How far away is Randy Thomas from playing?

Jason La Canfora: Talked to him yesterday and he was being a little weird with me. "They" don't want him to say much. I asked who "They" are, and he just smiled.

Anyway, he says he is on target to this point, but won't say with that target is exactly.

When I said, "2nd-3rd week of December?" he smiled more broadly than before.

So I'll go with that.

It's actually Fabini playing RG.

 I don't know why but I have a tendency to flip those names in my head.

Moss is saying he should play Sunday.
Well thank God! With Lloyd on the IR I was beginning to doubt we'd have any drops this Sunday! :bitter:
:goodposting: unfortunately it's a good posting. Not looking forward to this game, esp with the bro-in-law a big, trash-talking Cowboys fan. Skins showed us signs of hope early in the season, even with the tough losses when they "laid up" in the 2nd half in games vs the Giants and Packers.. .as well as this past weekend vs Eagles.

Now with Taylor out... I think TO is going to run rampant. And I don't think our offense will be able to keep up. I just hope we show up with some fight! :lmao:

:D At the very least, though, with Moss in the game the Dallas D will probably respect the pass a little more than if he were out.

This blurb was in today's WaPo:

Wide receiver Jimmy Farris, who was signed yesterday when wide receiver Brandon Lloyd was placed on injured reserve, said he worked often with quarterback Jason Campbell on the scout team during his prior stint with the Redskins and loves running routes for him. "I think we have a natural chemistry," Farris said. "I love the way he throws the football."
With Moss, ARE, McCardell, Caldwell and Farris ready, WR will be about the least of my worries on Sunday.Marcus Washington has been practicing fully the past couple of days. I've been noticing Godfrey missing tackles due to bad angles. Having Marcus back at SLB, along with his nickel pass rush, should be a nice boost to the D in light of missing Taylor.

Please stop any and all positive posting. I'd like to enter this game with a bad attitude, expecting a Patriots-sized blowout, making anything better a nice surprise.

:) Jerks.

Flying down to big D with a couple of buddies - one Redskins fan one Cowboy fan.

I don't know why I even decided to go on this trip. I just pray the Redskins can keep it close and who knows maybe S. Moss can connect on two late minute TD's and steal this game. Keeping my figures crossed.

BTW - this is my 1st time to Dallas to see the Redskins. Anyone know how the Dallas fans are? Will they be like "hey kudos for supporting your team" or will they be like "hey theres two more! Lets lynch'em"

Never been, but I've heard that that's a pretty benign place to be as an opposing fan as long as you're respectful. Nothing like Philly, and also better than Giants Stadium.

This is true. This will be my third straight year going down there for the Skins game and it's actually a pretty good time. There will always be knuckleheads (on both sides), but stay cool and you'll be treated well. Things were a bit testy after the Brunell-Moss game, though. Last year, not so much.

Oh, how I F'ing HATE the Cowboys...

...getting my mind right for a potentially L-O-N-G day, but I don't care - the 'skins may come up short, but my hatred won't die, and I'll be spitting venom until the last bloody second ticks off the clock...

Fight on, fight on, til you have won, Sons of Washington!!!

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

Went one year. Nothing was said to me and my daughter as skins fans even when Dallas won. Of course it was one of those years when neither team was going anywhere (Bledsoe was QB).

If you thought nothing else could possibly go wrong for the Redskins, this just in: Joe Buck is announcing the game today.

I'm sure that Aikman will do everything he can to avoid slobbering all over Tony Romo. I'm convinced that Romo is going to be the broadcasters' next Favre in terms of slobber factor.

We are polite fans at the game for the most part. I think its just realising that everyone is there to have a good time...everyone tends to hate aceholes.

It's just not right to be down all Thanksgiving week.
C'mon now. As much as losing sucks, this has got to be the best I've felt in a long time after an L.No Sean Taylor. Dallas has homefield advantage. And they only win by 5, with the 'Skins still having a shot all the way to the end? Week 17 can't get here fast enough for the rematch, IMO. A healthy Taylor + FedEx Field = W!If you had told me beforehand that Romo/TO was going to get 4 TDs, I would have immediately proclaimed "blow out" and I probably would not have even watched the game. The pass rush may have been lacking, but the D made MBIII and JJ disappear. Dallas had to pass to win. If the 'Skins can shut down the run again in week 17, Taylor should be, without a doubt, a difference maker.

I entered the game with that attitude. Similarly, I entered the Seattle playoff game a couple years ago with that attitude. Yet, I was still upset after that loss. (Carlos Rogers, I still have not forgiven you!)I'll admit, this one doesn't hurt as much as most Dallas losses and it really doesn't hurt as much as last week's Philly loss. But, it still sucks.

I thought this was a pretty cogent post about Campbell's first 16 starts on Extremeskins in a thread about what QB's in the league you'd take right now over Campbell:

Through Campbell's first 16 games as a professional (at the age of 25) has has 3000 yards, 19 TDs, 6.5 average/completion, 13 INTs, 21 Sacks, and a 78.4 rating. When you think what he has had to overcome (inconsistent play by receivers, Al Saunders' offense, Joe Gibbs' conservatism), why would you think someone else could do better under the same circumstances?Peyton Manning's first 16 games? Favre's first 16 games? His stats compare favorably with those guys.Tony Romo? He's never played a game without Terrell Owens. If TO could help provide Donovan McNabb with nearly a 105 quarterback rating in one season (20 points higher than his career rating, including the season with McNabb), then I'm sure Tony Romo is reaping the same benefit. If the TO factor is 20 points, then Tony Romo's career QB rating would be 78.9 (about the same as Campbell, and Campbell is 2 years younger with more physical tools). You ever notice when Tony Romo gets into trouble he throws up a prayer in TOs direction?Carson Palmer? Injuries? star receivers on both sides of him?Please... Just look at Jason Campbell... He's 25 years old and there are few (if any) quarterbacks in the league with his combination of physical gifts, abilities (inside and out of the pocket), work ethic and upside. Right now, he isn't someone you trade for anyone. We just need to get Jason the right tools to work with and build this team around our franchise quarterback instead of worrying how to improve the position.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The only QBs that I would take over Campbell in the NFL right now would be Brady, Manning, Romo.

for real. they find new and creative ways to blow games they should win. this one was pretty unique, i haven't seen the "outgain opponetn by 300 yards and give up 0 1st downs in the 2nd half" and still lose method before.

Campbell had all the touch of a rock on that last pass. He needs to learn to put some air under a ball. Not everything is meant to be thrown on a rope.

i turned it off after the 4th turnover. i couldnt watch anymore.
Missed a great 2nd half. Just couldn't overcome the turnovers. Just after I gave up on the Skins winning the defense totally shuts down Tampa but the late picks seal the loss. Good job by the D but how much was Gradkowski and how much was actually the D? Hopefully the D keeps it going next week. Need to go 4-1 to make the playoffs and still have NY & Dallas.

:excited: This team reminds me alot of the 2004 Redskins. Not a great record and a lot of games that just bounced the wrong way for us.This game really hurts particularly with the Giants losing, but the defense played great.

For some reason, I've been pretty Zen about this season. The Redskins looked like an average team to me at the beginning of the season, and that's what they are. In the NFL, there are always a ton of average teams. Some of those average teams make the playoffs and others don't, but there isn't a dime's worth of difference between them.

The Skins are average. If they make the playoffs, they'll still be average. They won't be Super Bowl contenders. They'll just be a mediocre team with a worse draft position.

I thought they were between a 7-9 to 9-7 team at best at the start of the season. The fact that they are 5-6 and were in every loss except the Patriots is very encouraging. They are not a particularly old team, and if they draft smart his year we shoud be in good shape.

This team is basically 4 plays away from being 8-3, just in the last 3 weeks. It kills me.

I've basically given up on this season even though mathematically they have a shot still and I do figure that they'll play better football to close out the year as Gibbs' teams always seem to do. Yeah, they had the same record at this time two years ago and made the playoffs, but winning 5 games in a row is tough for any NFL team. They'll be 7-9 or 8-8 in all likelihood.

I think however that this team is going to be scary next year. That defense is very, very good, and Campbell is right on the cusp of being outstanding. They finally have good a kicker and punter. They're stable everywhere else. They'll need to replace Springs and add a front line WR, and add depth at OL and DL, but that's all doable.

They could easily be 10-1 right now. The only team they lost against that they had any business to was the Patriots.
