Shark Pool mock draft - three rounds. Draft started (1 Viewer)

With the 64th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select...

Anthony Collins - OT - Kansas

After the cuts yesterday, the depth chart has Cory Lekkerkerker starting at right tackle... who? Anthony Collins can be an NFL left tackle... letting Vernon Carey move to the right side where he should be. He's only been playing football for 5 years, but he's a big athletic guy that Sparano would love to groom to protect Henne's blind side.

The St.Louis Rams have traded there 3rd, 5th, and 7th round picks for Jonathon Vilma. Vilma will immediatly step into the MLB positon and Will Witherspoon will move back to the outside.

Miami's picks:

Chris Long, DE

Chad Henne, QB

Justin King, CB

Anthony Collins, OT

I dunno Kirby, if this were the Dolphins actual draft, I think I'd be a little disappointed. Chris Long is a fine pick. At QB, I think Parcells will bring in a veteran and wait a year to further evaluate Beck. I really don't think they'll take a QB in the first two rounds, unless it's Flacco at the bottom of the second/top of the third. Justin King seems like an uninspired choice, although I agree that DB is a priority towards the top of the draft. Anthony Collins was a good pick. Big 6'6", 310 pound guy who probably ranks higher than some of the other guys taken ahead of him.

I would have liked to see a WR taken in the top 3 rounds, and there's a couple on the board I still I like a lot, including a certain guy from Florida, but you can't get everything you want...

EDIT: nevermind, Caldwell was already taken. I would have taken Manningham or Malcolm Kelly at the top of the 2nd over Chad Henne though. However, I agree that with Hagan and Ginn as our top two receivers, we probably would be better off bringing in a veteran receiver rather than bringing in yet another young guy.

Let's add some flash and excitement to the Vikings.Donnie Avery WR HoustonI think Sidney Rice can be a #1 guy and adding a splash of speed with Avery will help a lot.Not getting Fred Davis really messed me up.
What happened to Allison - is he not supposed to be #2?

For those doubting my Fred Davis selection:

He (Marvin Lewis) also said the Bengals are going to change their tact in pursuit of a tight end prospect. Because it is so difficult to find college players that can both catch and block, Lewis said they'll try to find athletes that can first catch but have the ability to develop into blockers.

Maybe, maybe not. He only had 8/122 all year and seemed more of a special teamer than a starter. We'll see. Even if Allison does start, that opens up a spot on the special teams for Avery - at least for the time being.

We'll just keep it rolling then...Cleveland - Cliff Avril, DE/OLB, Purdue
Probably would've gone DT here, but that's OK.
I thought about a d-lineman but there were two things I considered - 1)None of the d-linemen available float my boat for a 3-4 scheme and 2) I think Savage will probably use free agency to fill the position rather than draft it.

Color me surprised that this trade is allowed in this 3 round draft.
Yes, this trade is outlandish from NFL standpoint. But we're just having fun here and since it's the third round and not the first, I say let it slide.

I personally wouldn't give up that much for a guy with a degenerative knee condition.

It's not like I get to make the picks anyway so mine as well trade them :hifive: The trade was made on condition of a physical BTW

Legit trade - Vilma is on his way out of NY - I would have likd a 2nd rder for him but this is probably realistic to what the Jets will get. Just doesnt fit in the 3-4

pick coming up.

There are two guys that I think you should take that you might not know about. But I'll wait to see who you take...

Jets Select - Ray Rice, RB

Jets go with the local boy who rewrote the Rutgers record books. Little undersized but for a 3rd rd pick how can you go wrong? TJ is on the downsize and Leon Washington is not an every down back. Jets need playmakers and adding Rice and Swede give them young fresh legs at the skill positions. Little undersized but I think he has a very good NFL career - getting him in the 3rd rd allows the Jets to work him in slowly and letting TJ go next year.

Kansas City selects: Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska

I wasn't sure who to pick here. OL is obviously the Chefs biggest need, and I am under the assumption that this kid can play Guard. With Brian Waters possibly moving to Center, the Chefs have 2 guard spots to fill. WR was another possibility here, but I assume they will fill this position via Free Agency

To me Ray Rice is a very poor Man's Leon Washington.Team needs Linemen and a pass rusher.Even though I mentioned it, I'm also mixed on Vilma and have some hope that playing next to Harris might help a lot in more of a WSL role.

Jets Select - Chilo Rachel, G

6'6" 330lbs - thats what the Jets need on the OL - While Brick needs a steak - this guy is from a winning program and can hold his own strength wise. I liked both him and Nicks so figured take Rice and pick one of them for the OL. Lots of upside and immediately can step in and help the Jet OL.

Jets are done - summary and debate to follow.

Yes! That was one of them. Good stuff.

Ray Rice and Leon Washington are not even remotely similar. Ray Rice is more similar to Emmitt Smith than Leon. It may not be where the Jets go, but the comparison is off.

Vilma is done - he is just not a good 3-4 LB. Harris is now the leader of that defense and Jets dont want a distraction. With his knee injury an early 3rd, 5th and 7th is probably what we are looking at as for his value. As for the draft - I obviously hope we land a pass rusher and OT in FA - with that in mind I think the Jets need young skill players that can keep up DCs at night. Rigth now the Jets lack gamebreakers - Cotch can't score and Washington doesn't get the carries. Sederick Ellis - Help on the DL that can come in and stuff the runLimas Swede - Youth and height - need a big target for KC as he tends to be a little wild. Plax makes Eli look good - this gives us our big target - would fit in nicely with Coles and Cotch - smith is gadget man and a #4 WR at bestRay Rice - I beg to differ - I saw him play week in and out and I think he can take the NFL pounding. He can be an everydown RB. The risk is low since he is in the 3rd rd but why can't he develop into a Tiki Barber type player? Start as a change of pace but take on the main RB role in a yr or 2.Chilo Rachel - Big mauling Guard fills a need at a reasonable price. I would be pretty happy if things broke this way for the Jets - 2 sure starters in Ellis and Rachel; 2 big contributers in Swede and Rice. Shore up the OL/DL and add 2 skill positions which have been ignored in recent draftsLove the debate on this since Jets have so many needs so lets hear it - obviously biggest criticism is no pass rusher but defense came around a bit late and we either sign a FA pass rushr or Assante - either way helps our def.

Yes! That was one of them. Good stuff.
Glad I hit one of them!

So I suspect we'll try and push through as many picks as possible tonight but the time limit is waived. Do we pick up on Thursday morning with the time limit? Say 10 a.m. eastern time.
Correct.
This is what was posted yesterday.
But that wasn't an official RED LETTER ANNOUNCEMENT.
From now on, we are going to go with a 30 minute clock from the hours of 10-4 Central.
:lmao:

I wouldn't say not remotely similar... Ray Rice himself compares himself to MJD but, admitedly slower. I've seen the Emmit comparisons and I've seen the Curtis Martin comparisons - That tells you the guy has the heart and desire....On this Jets team though I think Leon fills that role.

I'll be back in 2 hours. There are 10 picks before I'm up. I'd like to make the bengals pick if within the time constraints. See ya.

Leon fills that role this yera with TJ - but I think TJ is gone after this year and Leon is not an every down RB. Rice is in my opinion. If you can get a guy like rice in the 3rd rd you do it IMO. Thisoffense needs more playmakers. He may not play a ton this year but I would let TJ go or deal him next year and go with Rice/Leon.

The Green Bay Packers select....

Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame

This guy's got Ted Thompson written all over him. A poor man's Sedrick Ellis who actually moved to DE in 2007 and registered a ridiculous 112 tackles.....8 were for a loss, and 4 were sacks. He's a non-stop motor guy who constantly penetrates the line to make plays. His only drawback is his height from what I can tell. Laws was a beast at the Senior Bowl and will fit into Green Bay's front 4 rotation immediately. Corey who?

I freaking love this guy.
