I'm going to the OKC game Sunday at 12:30 - it's been a few years since I've been to Staples, and I've never been to a Sunday afternoon game. Any tips for where to grab lunch beforehand? Somewhere around LA live?

I'm assuming you don't mean a taco truck - because there's usually a pretty good one on the corner of Grand and Olympic. There are several chain type restaurants at L.A. Live (Lawry's, Fleming's, Yardhouse, etc.), and some decent non-chain restaurants within a few blocks of Staples. You might yelp for some of those. Casa Nostra is good if you want Italian.

My top choice would be Sunday brunch at Bottega Louie, which is seven blocks away on 7th/Grand. Another 7 blocks the other direction straight down Fig, Jacks N Joe has the best pancakes in town. I go with the "Fight On!" bacon pancakes. Closer, there's The Pantry two blocks away on Fig/9th. There's also those LA Live places Groovus mentions. I'd expect a wait at all of these places before a game on a Sunday. I've never waited more than 20 minutes at Bottega, and usually more around 10. The place is so big that seats open up quickly. Jacks usually has 30-45 minute wait during weekend brunch times. The Pantry and LA Live places get really busy before a game. If you don't want a wait, you can go up to The Counter on 7th/Hope for a burger or Soleto on Fig/8th for pizza/Italian. You'll be able to walk right in. There's also a Fatburger on Fig/9th if you want something really quick.

Thx Shrugs and Groovus. This is probably the only game I'll be pulling for the Lakers to win for the rest of the season.

I'm sure you're prepared for disappointment.

Kick Pringles in the cooch for me. I don't have another game myself until April - hopefully he's gone by then (I'm sure I'm prepared for disappointment).

Don't be one of those guys! I can't understand why the crowd tries to cheer them on to victories. You can clap for great plays, but otherwise keep quiet!

Quickest way to get rings is get a top pick (like they did getting Kobe) and pairing that up win a big FA move.
kobe wasn't a top pick
8th or so overall...I never said #1.
he was the 13th pick.but anyway, that route is not the quickest way to get rings. the quickest way these days, especially if you are in a desirable city like LA, is to clear cap space and sign a couple max guys after their initial extension.

Add this to the legacy of the Kobe era:

The Los Angeles Lakers held a seven-point advantage over the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night, leading 20-13 after a Jodie Meeks jumpshot with 5:30 remaining in the first quarter. From there, though, Doc Rivers' club went on a little run.

Well, I guess you could call it kind of a big run.

OK, they outscored the Lakers 129-74 for the rest of the game. And it kind of didn't feel that close.

The Clippers destroyed the Lakers on Thursday by a score of 142-94. This wasn't just worse than the 39-point spanking the Clips laid on the Lakers back in January, and it wasn't just worse than the beating the Clips handed the Philadelphia 76ers last month. This was a 48-point annihilation that stands alone as the largest margin of victory in the history of the Clippers franchise, going all the way back to the Buffalo Braves days.

Moreover, though, this was the largest margin of defeat in the history of the Lakers franchise, even worse than the 46-point hammering that the 1994-95 Lakers suffered at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers. And it came from Former Little Brother, on the Staples Center court, on national television. This is about as bad as it has ever gotten for the purple and gold.

this once elite franchise is just now another team. Another really bad team praying maybe they get lucky and draft a savior.

Great point. Last night was obviously Kobe's fault.

your reading comprehension is very impressive

is it not the Kobe era?

maybe it is actually the Pau Gasol era, he is at least earning his paycheck

i know this, lakers are going to have a worse season than they ever did even in the Vlade Divac era

the team was a legend, they are now a joke. The fans in hear cheering for losses demonstrate it. If this team had the commitment to excellence they always have had fans would not tolerate being bad. The lakers are never bad. until now

Kobe's essentially been out for the entire year, as has Nash. Additionally, Howard walking last summer was a huge blow after the franchise had gone all in based on the expectation that he would re-sign.

The idea that this season is some kind of stain on "the Kobe era" is beyond silly.

Yep, you're right, they'll never be good again. Nothing to see here, feel free to frequent the gotse thread in lieu of this one.

I'm going to the OKC game Sunday at 12:30 - it's been a few years since I've been to Staples, and I've never been to a Sunday afternoon game. Any tips for where to grab lunch beforehand? Somewhere around LA live?
Staples was on fire the 2nd half. Probably the bet game the Lakers have layer this year.

I LOVE LA......WE LOVE IT!!!

Look what you did, you little jerk.

Oh, so now it's o.k. for them to win TGunz? Where'd you end up having lunch?
Yesterday was all about me, so yeah, I was stoked I got to see the "W". Obviously that was bad overall.

There was an accident on the 5 around Oceanside on the way up to LA yesterday morning, so we arrived later than expected (11:30) and decided to have a liquid brunch inside Staples (multiple Green Flash IPAs at $12.25 each). Stopped in San Clemente and had an early dinner at their Pizza Port; that place is f'n awesome.

What do you guys think of the rumor that Kobe has basically given the thumbs down to Pringles? Who's out there to coach this catastrophe that would be an improvement? Hollins?

Phil hasn't signed in New York just yet, has he?

I actually feel a little bad for Kobe. He is a good enough player that if he can even get to 75% health he can be good enough to lead a contending team. But I don't know what kinds of players around him would be complementary at this point. He needs a strong interior defender like A healthy Howard and a great shooter like Nash. On paper, that team should have been excellent.

I don't mean he could be the best player on a contender at 75%, just that he could be a big part of things like wade in Miami the last couple seasons.

In one year you can have afew unheralded FA and be back in the playoffs.

Kyle Lowry

Hes always been a nice passer and reb for a pg. He's stepped his scoring up this season.

Lance Stevenson

Per 36: 14.1 ppg on 49.5fg%, 6rebs, 5ast

Thabo Sefolosha

He's older and having a bad season scoring. The rest of his skills are usually nice for a SG - Hits 3s, low turnovers, gets stls, grabs reb, guards best wing player.

Jordan Hill

Actially play him. Per 36: 15.2ppg, 12.7reb, 54.2fg%

You can let Kobe and Nash fade off with this roster. Not to mention you have a lotto pick. I'm hoping the 6ers make cheap moves like this while everyone chases Melo, Bron ect.. The lakers have the cap for it too.

I imagine someone will throw big money at Stephenson this offseason. Particularly if he has a solid playoffs.

Anyone else hear the Nash sound bites yesterday about how he's basically in it for the money now, and there's no way he'll retire voluntarily as a result? I did. :confetti:

Possibly the worst trade in Laker history.

why would anyone retire and walk away from 10mil?

Pfft, he's had it made in the shade for most of his career, so if he has to end his career on a crappy team without a HOF coach, no one should be crying for him.

Any hope for really cheap tickets to the Suns game on the 30th? Would go with 2 young children, so I won't pay too much. Is $50 for 4 a possibility? I'm not impressed with the ticket exchange options.

Probably not until you hit the scalpers on the street in the middle of the 1st quarter.

What do you think about either suite c 23, or premier 9? Both are in the $60 range on stub hub. I can't tell much from the official site, do those seats come with anything?

Also, is the stadium subway friendly? About to hop on for the first time to check out the walk of fame. Travelling with Bieber fans sucks.

It is subway friendly. Take red line to 7th/metro, exit station on Fig (not Flower or Hope) and walk downhill four blocks. For seating, I just like something that's along a baseline. Don't mind upper level as long as it's in first half of rows.

TGunz needs to take a lead pipe to the knees of Kaman and Hill.

Then again, I don't think there are any LeBrons or Kobes in this draft anyway.

By the way, the Lakers should really do what they can to hang on to Hill. He's a quality glue guy.

ESPN headline for some reason says Kaman "helps" Lakers ... Kupchak's inability to give Kaman away now cost the Lakers two wins.

If they both get normal starter minutes next year, who has the better season - Kobe Bryant or Nick Young?
