Hit to 49ers skill players if Turner leaves (1 Viewer)

Turner's known for his run-first approach to offense. His backs get more carries, but they sometimes suffer in terms of ypc a bit. I think Gore takes a hit in terms of carries, but the rest of the offense remains largely unchanged, with a few more attempts going to Smith.

Gore may have lost some value anyways as Smith gains experience, as well as Davis. Also, you have to think they will try to upgrade their WR's. But losing Turner definitely hurts Gore to a certain extent regardless.

I don't think it will hurt him nearly as much as it did Jordan. Gore seems to be much more talented, plus the Niners offense/team isn't nearly as much in shambles as the Raiders were/are.

BTW, Turner is also known for primarily using one RB rather than using a RBBC approach, a distinction which seems to become more and more rare as time goes on. Gore may not only lose carries because the running game won't be emphasized as much, he may lose carries just because a guy like Hicks will get more carries over the course of the season.

Someone tell me why any NFL team would consider a guy who is already a two time loser as an NFL head coach?

:shrug:Turner seems to be made of Teflon to hear some commentators talk about him. They ignore his first five seasons of failure with the Redskins to complain that Snyder treated him unfairly in Washington, and then they talk about how nobody could have won with Al Davis and the Raiders to excuse him. As a Redskins fan I'd love to see him in Dallas because I know that he's no leader and will not take that team to where it wants to go. He's a good (not great) offensive coordinator, but his leadership skills as a head coach are simply not there.

Which brings up a good point. If Turner lands in Dallas, I think that J.Jones or M.Barber are certainly guys capapble of putting up top 10-15 seasons. Only question is which one will it be?

Turner is an excellent OC. I doubt they find someone equal to or better than Turner to replace him as OC, therefore I do see the 49er offense suffering. That could be offset if Smith continues his improvement and they find themselves another quality receiver. But right now I'd expect less from the 49er offense than what they did in 2006.

PREDICTION:

Ron Rivera will be interviewed

by JJ and hired by Dallas within days after the Super Bowl.

book it, Dano.

I don't believe Turner leaving will hurt Gore. Gore looked so good last year, it was scary. As that offense grows and Smith gets better and better, I think the entire offense will improve. When you have a guy with the apparent talent that Gore has, I don't think a rbbc is truly an option, no matter who the coordinator is.

I think Gore will have a tremendous 2007 season, assuming of course he can stay healthy.

:goodposting: Thats what i'm hoping for. If norv was their guy, they wouldn't wait until after the superbowl to announce it. I just don't see Rivera leaving Chicago to become D-cord for Dallas. Only way he leaves is if it is for a head coaching position. In today's SF Chronicle, Nolan said he considers Turner the front runner for the Cowboys job for what that's worth. He also denied that they offered Turner a raise.
