Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
6 pts all TDs, .5/1/1.5 PPR, QB/2RB/3WR/TE/Flex(RB-WR-TE)

Not very excited about the 5 hole but we'll see what plays out. I know a couple of folks in this league but largely most are strangers to me. One of the last leagues to fill up including the staff, should be interesting.

This is my first draft of the season. Well, Hyper Active 1 was like April, but that doesn;t count. I am so psyched for this. It's not supposed to be more than about 85 tonight. Going to go sit on my deck with the laptop and a bottle of wine and get my draft on!!!

I hate all my players but a few. MOre on this tomorrow. MY RB;s blow and all have early byes. Will they give me enough love as love my TE, QB and WR.

While painfully slow at times, it was a fun night. Thanks again for the invite. I really appreciate being selected to be a part of this again.

Let's see how bigmouth did

QB: Kevin Kolb 5.06, Kyle Orton 13.06, Vince Young 16.07...I'm a fan of Kolb this year and like his schedule early on in the season. QBs were sort of all over the place. I wanted to go 3 deep at QB and was going to grab Campbell in the 14th but he went in the 12th so that crashed those plans. Orton looks sharp and the 2 guys behind him are not going to start anytime in the 1st 5 games of the season. He might get me 1-2 game starts tops but I like him more than others in this format. Many times owners neglect to take a 3rd QB and they can come in handy when they have a surprise week. Young was decent down the stretch last year and I could see him making my starting roster at least once. No bye week issues here so I am happy with how this turned out. I thought about Vick in the 24th but if Kolb doesn't work out then I have 2 other QBs so I didn't want to waste the roster spot.

RB: Jamaal Charles 4.07(Bye 4), Arian Foster 7.06, Michael Bush 8.07, LaDainian Tomlinson 9.06, Tim Hightower 11.06, Brian Westbrook 20.07, Javon Ringer 23.06...Loved nabbing Charles in the 4th. I made a mistake not grabbing Jones in the middle teen round perhaps but at the same time I see Charles doing well and I felt I had adequate coverage for the RB2 slot. People really freak out about bye weeks and I felt like I used them to my advantage tonight. Charles is not on a bye week in week 1,2,3 and 5...If you post up at 8-3, 7-4, then maybe 8-3 again, you only have to go about 5-6 the rest of the way and you are likely in. And if you really have a big week at 11-0 or 10-1, you are way out pacing everyone else. Foster, Bush, and LT plus THT will be fine rotating in and out of the RB2 most weeks and don't be surprise if Westbrook or RInger pop in once in a blue moon too. RInger is very impressive right now and could see some garbage time or a series once in awhile. I got ripped up for this some in the draft tonight but I don't see this as a weakness, it's enough for this format.

WR: Andre Johnson 1.06, Calvin Johnson 2.07, DeSean Jackson 3.06, Percy Harvin 6.07(Week 4) Berrian 14.07(Week 4)Murphy 18.07, Donte Stallworth 24.07...Because of the TE run which was ridiculous early on and due mostly to DD software I anticipated this could happen so I went with it. We must start 3 and AJ/CJ/ and DJ plus the WR2/3 slot sin MN most weeks will cover up for some minor holes at TE or RB2 if that happens which I don't truly believe but I want to be fair. I actually am high on Berrian and with Favre back I believe he will make a lot more plays early on in the season. He had a torn hammy for the better half of last year and the Vikes are going to be in some big games where they need plenty of points. No one has a trio or 4 some like this and we can score from the 4th WR spot in the flex, I'm happy, very happy with this unit.

TE: Visanthe Shiancoe 10.07, Kevin Boss 12.07...Cosidering there were 7-8 TEs off the board in the 1st 2-3 rounds this seemed like a bargain for a top10 TE in Shiancoe the past 2 seasons and Kevin Boss is a little underrated sometimes. I wanted to go 3 TEs but Ben Watson and Todd Heap both went before I could scoop them up. I am only trying to fill the 1 TE requirement but most owners were trying to start 3 TEs every week it seemed. Also was 1 spot from KW II in the 9th which would have been pretty good but it just wasn't meant to be and I needed help at other positions. It's not my strength but it will be enough.

Def/ST: Dallas (Bye 4), Pittsburgh (Bye 5), New England (Bye 5)...OK so I only have Dallas in week 5...so what. Defenses don't really score a ton of points in this format, check out last years stats thru the 1st 5 weeks and there isn't a lot of difference and these squads were sitting there in 15th, 17th, and 21st, rounds after other very questionable defenses were taken off the board. I am not worried at all in this department, in fact I see this partiucular trio as a big strength most weeks.

PK: Dan Carpenter (Week 5), Joe Nedney...I took 2 kickers, will be without 1 in week 5, I can live with that. They both have the type of QBs that might sputter in the red zone so I see quite a few FGs for both teams.

Overall I am somewhat optimistic. I haven't looked at everyone's roster yet but I imagine I should be in the fight for one of the spots.

Freeman, Josh TBB QB - 4

This is great, Rivers has a very nice schedule, you're good to go here.

Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB - 9

Portis, Clinton WAS RB - 9

Slaton, Steve HOU RB - 7

Spiller, C.J. BUF RB - 6

Hardesty, Montario CLE RB (P) - 8

SPiller twice eh? I like it, MJD then SPiller and Portis rotating the RB2, should be OK here

Jennings, Greg GBP WR - 10

Nicks, Hakeem NYG WR (P) - 8

Wallace, Mike PIT WR - 5

Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR - 7

Hester, Devin CHI WR - 8

Naanee, Legedu SDC WR - 10

Moore, Lance NOS WR - 10

Nelson, Jordy GBP WR - 10

Jennings is solid, Nicks has upside but he's not steady, when he goes off though you have a nice hit. The rest is gonna be hit or miss...some weeks you might have a tough time getting 3 solid starts out there. Plus the lfex spot has to come from somewhere.

Celek, Brent PHI TE - 8

Shockey, Jeremy NOS TE - 10

Cook, Jared TEN TE - 9

You spent early on Celek but you can fill your TE spot each week

Folk, Nick NYJ PK - 7

Nugent, Mike CIN PK (P) - 6

Bills, Buffalo BUF Def - 6

Texans, Houston HOU Def - 7

Defenses are questionable I would say, some easy match ups which is why you probably drafted them.

Decent team, should compete. You didn't do anything stupid ;) If folks can post their teams up like this it makes it pretty easy to discuss.

Delhomme, Jake CLE QB

Flacco, Joe BAL QB

Stafford, Matthew DET QB

Here's hoping Flacco starts out this year like he did the last one...ON FIRE. Boldin is a really nice addition, plus 2 decent receiving TEs in the draft...could be a nice recipe for success. Stafford and the Lions will have to throw a lot to start the year I think, and they will throw it well. I like him, I grabbed Burleson as well. Could be an offense to buy into a LOT his season. Delhomme was a 20-somethingth round flier because they also had a decent schedule to open the year, and you never know when some bum is gonna get into a 6 TD shootout (remember DA 3 seasons ago against Cincy?) out of nowhere and win the week for you.

Benson, Cedric CIN RB

Forte, Matt CHI RB

Green-Ellis, BenJarvus NEP RB - 5

Williams, DeAngelo CAR RB (P)

In Best Ball, I figured I should try to take a couple RBs who will fill the 2 starting spots every week. Benson/Dwill/Forte fell to me in the 3rd/4th/5th rounds, so I was set for the whole draft here. It's probably the smallest RB corps in the league, but has the potential to be one of the best.

Branch, Deion SEA WR - 5

Burleson, Nate DET WR

Cribbs, Josh CLE WR

Jones, Jacoby HOU WR

Maclin, Jeremy PHI WR (P)

Meachem, Robert NOS WR (P)

Robinson, Laurent STL WR (P)

Williams, Roy DAL WR - 4

Best Ball to me meant: Shotgun receivers late like hell and hope that 3 can go off in any given week. Maclin was my first guy taken...I think people are overlooking Branch in SEA, got him in the last round and it would not surprise me at all if he scores for me 2 or 3 weeks, even with his bye. Mike Williams went like 7 rounds earlier. Cribbs is dynamic and could score with a decent schedule to open the year, Jacoby and Meachem are both solid home run threats week in and week out. LRob is a wildcard for me, and I think Stafford and the DET offense have huge passing numbers to start the year...Calvin can't get everything can he? I was also pretty surprised Roy was there as late as he was. I mean LATE. He may have a bye, but there's a nice chance he scores for me week 1, maybe more.

Davis, Vernon SFO TE (P)

Gates, Antonio SDC TE

First two rounds, my top 2 TEs. No VJax for sure during this contest means a definite leaning on Gates. We saw what Davis did last year, so he is most likely my flex every week. Only Crippler comes close to me with TE production, IMO

Buehler, David DAL PK - 4

Janikowski, Sebastian OAK PK

Lindell, Rian BUF PK

Prater, Matt DEN PK

I usually don't draft a kicker, but in this type of league, I obviously must. Buehler lasted WAY too long in a league that rewards distance and doesn't penalize for missed FGs, and so I also took big legs Janikowski and Prater. Lindell was a 23rd round "I think BUF could suck in the red zone" pick. Probably should have taken another Def or TE or especially a WR with this pick, but I was tired. I think I very well could get the best K scoring every single week.

Cardinals, Arizona ARI Def

Colts, Indianapolis IND Def

Raiders, Oakland OAK Def

Three defenses. STL multiple times. Point allowed scoring was so pointless I went for some teams that have real shots at TOs for TDs, and sacks. Not much to say except no bye weeks, so I have 3 shots every week.

I actually think I have a decent shot at advancing, whereas last year it was obvious I stood no chance.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how I did, considering I absolutely hated my whole team last year and was promptly booted in week 1 of the survivor league. If I have any regrets, it's gotta be that I could have skipped Davis for a WR and gotten Celek a round later, still gotten 2 of those RBs, and then pulled the trigger on McGahee/LT/Jones later on. And that Lindell pick. I would take some receiver or Kareem Huggins if I had that one back.

Oh, surprised Huggins went undrafted. I suppose since we're just 5 weeks he may not get the job until we're done, but I've had him on my dynasty rosters for almost a year now.

Delhomme, Jake CLE QB - 8Flacco, Joe BAL QB - 8Stafford, Matthew DET QB - 7It's not bad. I like Flacco, and anytime you have 3 starting QBs one of them typically hit the top half of the order that week. Stafford will be improved. 6 pts per pass TD, you do need Baltimore to throw a few more TDs. Benson, Cedric CIN RB - 6Forte, Matt CHI RB - 8Green-Ellis, BenJarvus NEP RB - 5Williams, DeAngelo CAR RB (P) - 6Short list but tight. Killed me to watch DWill fall to you in the 3rd but I had other plans. He has a tough rush schedule early and will split some time with Stewart but Benson in the 4th really solidifies this spot on your roster. Not a big Matt Forte lover and think you should have started hammering away at WR.Branch, Deion SEA WR - 5Burleson, Nate DET WR - 7Cribbs, Josh CLE WR - 8Jones, Jacoby HOU WR - 7Maclin, Jeremy PHI WR (P) - 8Meachem, Robert NOS WR (P) - 10Robinson, Laurent STL WR (P) - 9Williams, Roy DAL WR - 4Maclin as a WR3 in a start 3 league, I like it a lot. Maclin in a start 3 league as a WR1, not nearly the same thing. The rest is a crapshoot but you know that. You will need at least 2-3 of them to hit the scoreboard every week for you and I'm not sure you have that. Weakest position by far for you and it's 3 starting spots each week. Davis, Vernon SFO TE (P) - 9Gates, Antonio SDC TE - 10Despite trying to committ suicide and go TE/TE in the 1st/2nd because you looked at DD too long I do like this and you should be very strong at TE each week, maybe even flex some weeks. Buehler, David DAL PK - 4Janikowski, Sebastian OAK PK - 10Lindell, Rian BUF PK - 6Prater, Matt DEN PK - 9Cardinals, Arizona ARI Def - 6Colts, Indianapolis IND Def - 7Raiders, Oakland OAK Def - 10
4 PKs and 3 Def/ST might be a little overkill when you needed more punch at WR.You have a good shot though I think.

MOP, just an FYI, I don't actually have the DD so I've never looked at it :lmao:

I studies FFPC/WCOFF/ other competitive drafts that use the same scoring system from the past to get an idea of the type of strategy I wanted to employ. Plus I think for 5 weeks Gates could be the highest scoring receiver period, let alone with the receiving TE bonus.

Chris Smith had a surprise issue today, so I moved from League 12 at the last minute. Taking the 1.02 wasn't too bad, but only getting 30 minutes to set up the dominator and check for news was kind of a bummer. Oh well - on to the draft.

Pick-by-pick

1.02 - RB Ray Rice, Bal

I knew Chris Johnson wouldn't be there, and Adrian Peterson has an early bye. Ray Rice isn't bad. Ho hum.

2.11 - TE Jason Witten, Dal

I was hoping my fellow drafters would be unaware of the importance of 1.5 PPR for TEs (0.5 for RBs and 1.0 for WRs). Of course, that notion went out the window when Antonio Gates and Dallas Clark went at 1.07 and 1.08. Then, the same two drafters (Instinctive and Crippler) each take another TE in Round 2. But wait - Witten is still on the board. Of course, his early bye stinks to high heaven, but this dude is going to score big time for four weeks. I happily scoop him up.

3.02 - TE Tony Gonzalez, Atl

I sort of hoped Randy Moss would make it here, but then again he has an early bye. I really couldn't afford to have two bye-week players in the first two rounds. Luckily(?), Moss went at 2.12, so my TE3 (with this scoring and five-week season) was an easy selection. At this point, I'm pretty stoked to have two elite TEs. Except for a late-rounder to shore up Witten's bye week, I'm done at this extremely vital position.

4.11 - WR Michael Crabtree, SF

I'm super high on Crabtree (my WR7 in this format), and he is quickly my selection. I like his talent and his early-season schedule. Most people will disagree, but he is an anchor for my WR corps.

5.02 - RB Knowshon Moreno, Den

Another guy I'm higher on than most. Hopefully, he'll be ready to roll in Week 1. If so, he's very good value in the 5th round and an excellent 2nd back. I considered Jay Cutler, but pass for two reasons: 1) He might make it back, and 2) I'll be ticked off if Moreno is on someone else's roster and playing as good as I think he will be.

6.11 - QB Matt Ryan, Atl

It might be a bit early, but I like getting a pair of QBs and rolling with them. Of course, Cutler doesn't make it back, but Ryan is solid and has an OK early-season schedule.

7.02 - WR Pierre Garcon, Ind

I'm not a huge fan of Garcon, but this is an easy pick for three reasons: 1) I really need another WR, 2) Garcon is great for best-ball leagues (where your best line-up is automatically started), and 3) He'll be part of a three-headed committee (if I can swing it).

8.11 - RB Brandon Jacobs, NYG

Despite having only two WRs, I'm thrilled to take Jacobs here. The dude could score a pair of TDs against anyone and is capable of turning in huge statistical games. I'll gladly take that in the 8th round.

9.02 - QB Carson Palmer, Cin

Yep - still only have a pair of WRs, but I'm perfectly capable of shotgunning that position. It's time to complete my QBBC. Excepting Week 1, Ryan and Palmer have very compatible schedules. Plus, both are able to put up big games. Thrilled at QB.

10.11 - RB Darren McFadden, Oak

Homer Alert! This dude was made for best-ball scoring. Hopefully, he'll take it to the house a couple of times in a couple of games. I'm probably done at RB.

11.02 - WR Mohamed Massaquoi, Cle

Another best-ball stud. In 2009, Massaquoi had five games of at least five catches or a TD. The rest of the season, he was invisible. Hopefully, he'll give me a couple of those big games.

12.11 - WR Austin Collie, Ind

And here is Part 2 of the committee mentioned with the Garcon pick.

13.02 - San Diego Chargers Defense

I wasn't planning on taking a defense at this point, but the Chargers stood out here. For some reason, they were my DEF3 in this scoring system, and it didn't take long to figure out why. They open with Kansas City, Jacksonville, Seattle, Arizona, and Oakland. While all five of those offenses won't be as bad as we expect, I'll certainly take my chances.

14.11 - WR Anthony Gonzalez, Ind

Hello, Part 3. With Garcon, Collie, and Gonzalez, I should get at least one stud WR every week.

15.02 - WR Devery Henderson, NO

Who wouldn't want a guy that is capable of turning two catches into 105 yards and two scores?

16.11 - PK Garrett Hartley, NO

I may be in the minority, but I enjoy scoring at every position. Hartley will work as long as he boots an occasional FG to go with those PATs.

17.02 - Tennessee Titans Defense

This might be a bit of a reach, but I like having two defenses with decent schedules. While they have to travel to the Giants and the Cowboys, Tennessee gets home dates with Oakland, Pittsburgh (without Ben Roethlisberger, of course), and Denver. Mix all of that together, and you get a Top 5 defense in this league format. That's pretty good in the 17th round, and I doubt they will be available in the 18th.

18.11 - PK Adam Vinatieri, Ind

I might have waited too long to get my 2nd kicker. While I love the Colts offense, I have a tinge of doubt about Vinatieri. Oh well, I'll grab another high-scoring option next round.

19.02 - PK Neil Rackers, Hou

Sure, there is a chance that Rackers won't win the job in Houston, but I'm still good with him on the roster for three reasons: 1) The Texans should score a lot, 2) I have no problem taking Kris Brown in the 24th, and 3) Rackers could get cut and still find work before the season begins.

20.11 - WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oak

Taking multiple Raiders seems wrong, but Heyward-Bey is another solid best-ball player. Plus, adding shells to my WR shotgun is never a bad idea.

21.02 - WR Brandon Tate, NE

Is it bad to take one of Tom Brady's starting WRs in the 21st round?

22.11 - TE Zach Miller, Jac

I kind of wanted Toby Gerhart here, but he was taken at 22.02. Oh well - this is one of my breakout players for 2010. While I'd prefer to have him the final five weeks of the season, I'm OK with him here.

23.02 - WR Brandon LaFell, Den

I waivered between him and Eric Decker. LaFell won the coin flip.

24.11 - RB Peyton Hillis, Cle

The homer in me came out again, but Hillis is an OK 24th round pick. Hopefully, I'll never need him, but insurance is always good. Of course, one pick later, I'm reminded of my kicker plan as Kris Brown becomes Mr. Irrelevant. Oh well.

Position-by-position

QB Matt Ryan, Atl

QB Carson Palmer, Cin

Excellent combo. Each is in my Top 10 for this league format.

RB Ray Rice, Bal

RB Knowshon Moreno, Den

RB Brandon Jacobs, NYG

RB Darren McFadden, Oak

RB Peyton Hillis, Cle

If Rice performs as expected, I should easily find another starter in this group. The top three here are among my Top 20 backs.

WR Michael Crabtree, SF

WR Pierre Garcon, Ind

WR Mohamed Massaquoi, Cle

WR Austin Collie, Ind

WR Anthony Gonzalez, Ind

WR Devery Henderson, NO

WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oak

WR Brandon Tate, NE

WR Brandon LaFell, Car

On the surface, this is a weakness, and I could be putting too much faith in Crabtree. I still have complete confidence that this group will find three or more solid outings every week. Even if you take out Crabtree, there should be enough firepower available here.

TE Jason Witten, Dal

TE Tony Gonzalez, Atl

TE Zach Miller, Jac

Along with Ray Rice, here is the strength of this team. If these two TEs perform as expected (each is in my Top 4), this squad should easily advance to Round 2.

PK Garrett Hartley, NO

PK Adam Vinatieri, Ind

PK Neil Rackers, Hou

Unless the amazing happens and Vinatieri and Rackers are both out of jobs, this will be a position of strength. And yeah, it's fashionable to dismiss kickers, but a few extra points are a few extra points.

San Diego Chargers Defense

Tennessee Titans Defense

There are some excellent matchups here, and each of these defenses are in my Top 5.

Final Thoughts

My predraft strategy was to get a stud back in Round 1 and then gain an advantage at tight end. I feel I was able to do that with my first three picks.

If that occurred, I was willing to lag behind the field at wide receiver for a while and solidify my quarterbacks and backfield. The reasoning is twofold: 1) It's easier to shotgun wide receivers, and 2) If you're going to shotgun one position, your other positions need to be solid and can't take up much of your roster. Fortunately, I was able to accomplish this as well.

Finally, if possible, I very much prefer to avoid bye weeks and did pretty well. It is just so important to have a full roster available every week. Witten was too good to pass up, even with the early bye, and Tate was my 8th drafted receiver. With only a pair of bye-week issues, I'm thrilled.

Other Teams?

I like the following to advance to Round 2:

go2extrems - Was gifted Kellen Winslow in the 9th. Would like to have a better RB3, but this team should advance with ease.

And two of these three:

Ministry of Pain - While he's behind the curve at QB, RB, and TE (in a huge way), his WRs are so stellar that it might not matter. Looming bye-week concerns as he'll be hard pressed to find a flex starter in Week 4 and will need Dallas defense to be solid in Week 5.

PigSkinLiquors - Very good at QB, RB, and WR. Very weak at TE (but he did shotgun it), which might hold him back. Also, will need to build a cushion before the bye weeks hit.

Todd Lafferty - Stellar at QB and RB, and that should make up for deficiencies at WR and TE. With another solid TE and two more WRs (rather than those last two backs), I'd call this squad a shoe-in to advance.

Cassel, Matt KCC QB - 4

Sanchez, Mark NYJ QB - 7

Schaub, Matt HOU QB - 7

This unit is okay. Usually dont go QB early and still wish I had not and gone Addai instead in the 4th but seemed like good value. I wanted 3 and dont mind this unit at all with one stud. Also wanted Flacco and thought I could wait till next round as there was 5 QB's I liked at that point and they all went before my next pick and why Sanchez

Dwyer, Jonathan PIT RB (P) - 5

Jones, Felix DAL RB - 4

Jones, Thomas KCC RB (P) - 4

McGahee, Willis BAL RB - 8

Snelling, Jason ATL RB - 8

Williams, Carnell TBB RB - 4

Williams, Ricky MIA RB - 5

Okay. I went shotgun approach here in the end since I as the last one to draft one. Unfortunately I have alot of bye week issues especially in 4 and no big names but these guys score TD's in only .5PPR. Feel I might do okay week to week with the 5 guys I got to choose from. 2 will score TD's each week. This might hold me back though. Wish I had gone Addai in 4th and waited on QB like Instinctive

Avery, Donnie STL WR - 9

Chambers, Chris KCC WR - 4

Edwards, Braylon NYJ WR - 7

Floyd, Malcom SDC WR (P) - 10

Marshall, Brandon MIA WR - 5

Smith, Steve NYG WR (P) - 8

Stroughter, Sammie TBB WR - 4

I like this unit. Not the best in the group but one of the better ones for sure. Marshall bye is in week 5 which is not my bad week so that is good. Love Chris Chambers this year and feel he was my best value in my start 3. WR was way more important to me than RB with the 1 to .5 and feel this unit is more than solid.

Casey, James HOU TE - 7

Clark, Dallas IND TE (P) - 7

Finley, Jermichael GBP TE (P) - 10

Best TE group> Okay Instinctive is pretty good also. No bye week issues and this will be my flex more than likely but I expect to score real well with the 1.5 and feel I get a leg up. There was only about 16 TE's I felt was draftable this year in the end and I wanted 2. While others where reaching for crap TE's, I was still getting okay RB's. We will see how it works out

Longwell, Ryan MIN PK - 4

Scobee, Josh JAC PK - 9

They dont score enough to matter. Once again one of the last to take a PK and Longwell is a good one to have even with bye. Than went for a non bye for the 2nd week. Week 4 will be my testing week as I hope to just hang on and do avg that week and make it up earlier

Ravens, Baltimore BAL Def - 8

Redskins, Washington WAS Def - 9

I think D is more important than PK and made sure I went earlier here. Think I did pretty good and did not need a 3rd. Hopefully I make up RB again with taking more to those that took 3 or 4 PK's and D's.

I hate my team. WIsh I had not gone Schuabb early and taken Addai. But for a couple of teams having some auto picks coming, this group was tough and no one dropped that I thought I would get. I always fly by the seat of my pants with no DD or anything. I still think I have as good as shot as any to make it here looking at the rest of the teams. I think they all have huge warts like I do at RB. Gray is at WR with the 1 PPR to .5 for RB and I dont like his beyond Rice. MOP with Shiancoe being a TD guy over receptions. Even though I do like his team overall and think he did great with RB value later. Instinctive with the nice TE but will his RB theory outdo my WR advantage will the big question. Valence is okay all over. I know we have a couple of teams with no chance of making it IMO. I put mine at 60-40

^it's definitely a strong league. If I get decent WR scores i think there's no way I don't advance. Of course, with all the names I have on there, it's a pretty big if.

I want to preface this by saying that for some reason I didn't have the draft tool during the draft. I had to select my picks by putting them into the chat and having the commish select them for me. That made drafting difficult as I had to keep up by marking off players as they got drafted and when we went to 2 minutes per pick I had little to know time to look at my spread sheet to find a player where the rest of the owners could simply click on the position they wanted to fill and see who was available. Seems pretty insignificant but it was incredibly frustrating for myself and my league mates... Despite that, I think I have a solid squad. Not sure if I will make it to round 2 or not, but I will compete.

7.09 - Manning, Eli NYG QB

8.04 - Favre, Brett MIN QB

13.09 - Henne, Chad MIA QB

I like Eli a lot this year. So many weapons at WR and decent but not great RB's and injury issues in the backfield. Despite the week 4 Bye, I took Favre just because he can put up monster numbers and Henne is a little insurance for that week 4 bye week.

1.09 - Turner, Michael ATL RB

3.09 - McCoy, LeSean PHI RB

12.04 - Brown, Donald IND RB

23.09 - Bell, Mike PHI RB

Turner was my first pick. I wasn't sure he would be there but with two TE's going 1.7 and 1.8, I felt I had to take him. Lots of WR's were there that would've been nice if this was a full season, but most of them had week 4 or 5 byes (Moss, Austin, Marshall, etc). I think Turner has a nice bounce back this year.

Love McCoy this year and the .5 for RB's will help him in my scoring. Neither of these guys has an early bye, so my insurance behind them is a little thin. Donald Brown was autoselected for me when I got behind. Looking back, I'm not all that upset about it. And Bell was just insurance and maybe he could have a goal line TD or two one week and make the roster over Turner or McCoy or be a flex player.

2.04 - White, Roddy ATL WR

4.04 - Rice, Sidney MIN WR

6.04 - Knox, Johnny CHI WR

10.04 - Royal, Eddie DEN WR

11.09 - Britt, Kenny TEN WR

14.04 - McCluster, Dexter KCC WR

17.09 - Benn, Arrelious TBB WR

Went with Roddy White because someone snagged Reggie Wayne ahead of me. Basically the best WR without an early bye on the board. If Atlanta gets skunked in a couple of games I'm screwed.

With a start 3 WR's roster requirement I needed a WR and despite the week 4 bye I took this guy the day Favre returned to Minnesota. Seemed fitting.

I jumped on Knox maybe a little early but he is ideal for this format. He can have monster games and then disappear for a game.

With no Brandon Marshall there, I went with Royal in the 10th. Maybe a reach. Maybe he's the next Michael Clayton.

Big fan of Kenny Britt. And I hope Vince Young is too.

McCluster and Benn were guys picked purely on potential.

5.09 - Daniels, Owen HOU TE

15.09 - Hernandez, Aaron NEP TE

21.09 - Moeaki, Tony KCC TE

24.04 - Graham, Jimmy NOS TE

I think 7 TE's were off the board in the first two rounds. Some are worried about Dainels health. All I need is his fist half from last year. Just 5 games.

Then it was the rookie TE platoon. We'll see. I missed on getting Winslow in the 9th, I think, and so pickens were slim after that...

19.09 - Feely, Jay ARI PK

20.04 - Succop, Ryan KCC PK

22.04 - Gano, Graham WAS PK

Kickers? Who cares.

9.09 - Jets, New York NYJ Def

16.04 - Saints, New Orleans NOS Def

Went with two solid D's, one of which I went with pretty early. We'll see if that was a mistake...

Jones, Thomas KCC RB (P) - 4

McGahee, Willis BAL RB - 8

Snelling, Jason ATL RB - 8

Edwards, Braylon NYJ WR - 7

Floyd, Malcom SDC WR (P) - 10

Stroughter, Sammie TBB WR - 4

I like this unit. Not the best in the group but one of the better ones for sure. Marshall bye is in week 5 which is not my bad week so that is good. Love Chris Chambers this year and feel he was my best value in my start 3. WR was way more important to me than RB with the 1 to .5 and feel this unit is more than solid.

Who was your first round pick?
He went Clark in the 1st at the 1.08 and Finley in the 2nd

Here's my draft:

QB

Tony Romo (4) @ 3.01

Don. McNabb (9) 9.01

I really struggled with picking Romo knowing his bye was early, but figured I could get a decent backup for the bye week. I was ecstatic to have McNabb drop to me in the 9th. I feel pretty confident with these two moving forward, as I had both in my top 12, and believe Romo can have some huge weeks for me, while McNabb will be more consistent. I thought about picking a 3rd QB late for fear of an injury, but couldn't find a slot where any value arose.

RB

Chris Johnson (9) 1.01

Joseph Addai (7) 5.01

Ronnie Brown (5) 6.12

Correll Buckhalter (9) 13.01

Derrick Ward (4) 18.12

Sammy Morris (5) 20.12

I feel great at this position, as Johnson gives me explosiveness at the #1, and feel great having Addai and Brown fighting for my #2. Both have issues with players stealing yards/tds (D. Brown and Ricky), but between them there will be points each week. I was aware that Buckhalter was a risky pick with his neck/back prob's, but wanted a risk/reward back at #4 (= exactly what I got!). Hopefully between Buck, Ward and Morris I can get a surprise any given week. I'd like to have more strength on the back-end of this group, and can only hope that one of the last three (all have HUGE question marks unfortunately) won't be needed to be counted at any time.

WR

Randy Moss (5) 2.12

Santana Moss (9) 4.12

Terrell Owens (6) 7.01

Steve Breaston (6) 8.12

Santonio Holmes (7) 12.12

Brian Hartline (5) 23.01

Early Doucet (6) 21.01

I loved getting Moss at the end of the 2nd, but knew I'd need to get some insurance for his week 5 bye at some point. As I pulled the trigger on him, I put a BIG yellow highlight on Santonio Holmes. The 12th might have been a bit early to take Holmes knowing he's only be available for week 5, BUT I felt I'd still have a #1 at fairly little cost to cover up for drafting a bye-guy early.

I'm really high on Santana (IMHO, this was my biggest reach of the draft, but wanted him) and LOVE that I was able to get T.O. in the seventh round. I followed up my T.O. pick with Breaston, who I think is going to have some really big weeks, and some bust weeks (good #4 WR). After the Holmes pick (end of 12th), I didn't even look at WR until the 21st round, as I liked my corp, and didn't have a good feeling about anyone else on the board. I do like Hartline that late in the draft (23rd round) as he's likely Miami's #2, and should at a minimum get some looks every week, with some of those shots being down field. I went with Doucet, to match up with Breaston; assuming some home runs will be hit on this team, and I like having their #2 and #3 combined. With Fitz' knee, these two could possibly see considerably more balls especially in the first few weeks :fingerscrossed:!

TE

Dustin Keller (7) 11.01

Fred Davis (9) 14.12

Todd Heap (8) 15.01

Anthony Fasano (5) 19.01

Mercedes Lewis (9) 22.12

For the record WTF! One and a half points per reception does not make TE's worth what was being paid for them at this position. I was hoping to get a top 5 TE and a couple late in the draft, but there was ZERO way I was leaving WR 1's, RB 2's, or a QB 1 on the table to reach for one of them. Here's the insanity I witnessed BEFORE my 2nd pick: Gates 1.07, Clark 1.08, Finley 2.05, Davis 2.06, Witten 2.11. I was actually contemplating taking Witten at 3.01 (as the run started), but thank goodness Clayton kept me from having to even contemplate it (I gladly got Randy Moss and Romo on the turn instead).

With none of the top 5 even possible to draft, I decided to shotgun this position with a series of guys that could hopefully find me SOME points. I felt that I was front loaded at RB, QB and WR enough to take this risk. I do really like getting Keller in the 11th (some value!), and like his chances of bouncing back after last year, especially after looking good in the post season. While he's certainly not an ideal #1, he was the first TE that came available at a price I was willing to pay. Between Davis, Heap, Fasano and Mercedes I at least have a group of TE's that gives me a punchers chance of getting points at this position.

Kickers

David Akers (8) 16.12

Josh Brown (9) 24.12

I like Akers as I'm pretty confident I have a consistent #1, and went with Josh Brown as Mr. Irrelevant (last pick in the draft) as in my head I pictured the Rams being able to move the sticks but not put it in. I thought about his injury for about one second, and picked Brown as he's a friggin' kicker and I really wanted to get to bed!

Defense

Philly (8) 10.12

Chicago (8) 17.01

I had planned on picking my Defenses based on strength of schedule late in the draft, but felt that both Philly and Chicago would be too good (and were available with value) to worry about their SOS. Philly at the end of the 10th I thought was good value, especially with every other position on my team (except TE, which I'd address with the next pick) in really good shape. I am also very high on Chicago and was ecstatic to take them in the 17th. With Chicago having Detroit at home in week 1, and Philly having Detroit in week 2, I should be really good for at least the first two weeks at this position.

Overall

I really like my team. I feel strong at QB, RB and WR, which is a feeling I don't have after very many drafts. Hopefully my TE committee can find me some points, because if they do, I should be tough to knock out.

Very strong, should glide into the next round. You could never put that together in a normal league, you could have multiple 11-0,10-1 type weeks the first 3 weeks. Really strong team Pigskin

Thanks MOP. I agree that my first three weeks look quite good (I also really like week #5!). Week 4 I'll be vulnerable with Romo on bye, so hopefully the early pick of my #2 qb (McNafro) is worth it. I'd also feel more comfortable if I'd have taken a 3rd qb just in case McNabb goes down.

I agree with MOP. Great draft. TE's are a little sketch, but QB, RB and WR will compensate. I hope to see you in the next round, in that I hope I join you there...

It is his WR and TE that make me not like this team that much. But than I went TE 1-2 and feel they are important and that while this team drafted a bunch of scrubs at TE later, I got okay value at RB. I think his QB combo and RB's are nice but his WR is mediocre behind Randy and not really deep. At least he has 5 TE with that approach.

I don't think his WR's are mediocre. Moss is Moss, albeit 80% of him because of the bye. But Santana Moss now has a legit QB throwing to him and I expect big things, and I'm not so sure he doesn't have the best WR in Cinci this year in Owens. But that's just my take. I was planning on grabbing Owens with my next pick when he snaked him...

The worth of my WR's is really up in the air, but so are everybody's in our draft. When you draft against talented people, the talent at WR (in particular), gets thinned out. With that said, I really like my top 4 + Holmes for week 5, and REALLY really like having both Breaston and Doucet which is something I had targeted. I am ecstatic to have gotten them at 8.12 and 21.01. Between them they'll likely have well over 100 catches, and 1,200 yards. More importantly, they won't both have big games at the same time, as Fitz will certainly get his. I don't think AZ will somehow magically be able to run the ball = Leinart is going to have to throw the ball; and Fitz will see LOTS of double teams.

My draft:

Peyton Manning 2.08

Matt Moore 21.02

Sam Bradford 22.08

I drafted Manning in the 2nd wanting to get a top QB. I probably should have backed him up earlier, but he should be strong enough to carry me for 5 weeks. There's always a chance Moore picks up where he left off last year and ends up starting for me a few weeks, but I doubt it. Bradford was just added for depth based upon a soft opening schedule.

Frank Gore 1.05

Ahmad Bradshaw 6.08

Jerome Harrison 7.05

Leon Washington 13.05

Bernard Scott 15.05

I went back and forth between Gore and Andre Johnson at the 5 pick. My gut said to go with Gore, so I hope it turns out. If not, you're welcome MOP. After Gore this group is kind of weak. However, Bradshaw and Harrison both have easy opening schedules and should do well enough to give me a decent RB2 for the first 5 weeks. Washington and Scott both have some upside if their situations pan out. Hopefully, I won't be needing either one.

Marques Colston 3.05

Wes Welker 5.05

Derrick Mason 8.08

Harry Douglas 10.08

Mike Thomas 11.05

Nate Washington 14.08

Brian Robiskie 21.05

Carlton Mitchell 24.08

I don't have any disillusions about this crew. I waited longer than I had intended to grab a WR. I'll admit there's a lot of potential upside to the group, but the floor is pretty low as well. I was happy with Colston in the 3rd. Welker was drafted for upside with the full knowledge of his returning from injury. I'm very fortunate this is a best-ball league because I'm going to be hoping for some good week from those middle-tier guys.

Zach Miller OAK 4.08

Kellen Winslow 9.05

Shaun Nelson 16.08

Ben Watson 23.05

The 4th round may have been early for Miller, but he was the last of that tier for me. I didn't want to find myself fishing for scrubs. Winslow has some upside, and I may need him as my flex a few times. Nelson and Watson are long shots, but they are on teams with questionable receivers and short throwing QBs.

Lawrence Tynes 17.05

Matt Bryant 19.05

I grabbed two kickers. I thought about a 3rd but thought should try for another WR.

Green Bay Defense12.08

Atlanta Defense 20.08

Green Bay's first 5 weeks look pretty sweet except for week 1. That's why I grabbed Atlanta against the Roethlisberger-less Steelers.

I did have Draft Dominator open the whole time and will gladly admit I leaned on it more than I normally would. I haven't played in many leagues that are only 5 weeks, so it helped. I'm sure my team would be quite different without that tool. We'll see how it works out, but I am looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.

Rivers, Philip SDC QB - 10

Garrard, David JAC QB - 9

Freeman, Josh TBB QB - 4

I had planned on going with more of a committee approach here until I saw Rivers' first 5 games. If that isn't a recipe for success, I don't know what is. Should SD start slow, then Garrard and Freeman are adequate fill-in types. No bye week issues, though I expect Rivers to be the scorer each week so 3 QB may have been overkill.

Jones-Drew, Maurice JAC RB - 9

Spiller, C.J. BUF RB - 6

Portis, Clinton WAS RB - 9

Slaton, Steve HOU RB - 7

Hardesty, Montario CLE RB (P) - 8

MJD, Spiller and Slaton all have the potential to be explosive in PPR this season and each were a value where I got them. Reports seem to indicate that Portis could be in for a bounce back type season. Getting him for the first leg will give me his production while he is at his healthiest. Hardesty was a late round flyer (like 16th i think?) I only took him because seeing a possible starter still on the board that late in the draft surprised me and was clearly the best value on the board. No bye week issues so 5 solid scores to pull from each week.

Jennings, Greg GBP WR - 10

Nicks, Hakeem NYG WR (P) - 8

Wallace, Mike PIT WR - 5

Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR - 7

Hester, Devin CHI WR - 8

Naanee, Legedu SDC WR - 10

Moore, Lance NOS WR - 10

Nelson, Jordy GBP WR - 10

Call me crazy, but I really like this group. After MOP's ridiculous top 3, this may be the best group in the league. Jennings, Nicks, and Cotchery will probide steady production while the other guys are all big plays waiting to happen. A nice balance between consistent scoring and guys that should easily outperform their draft slot. When Knox went in the early 6th I thought I might miss out on getting Hester, but he fell back to me and I was happy to have him as a WR3/4 there. Wallace is the only bye week issue and I think there is enough coverage there between Hester, Nanee, Moore, and Nelson.

Celek, Brent PHI TE - 8

Shockey, Jeremy NOS TE - 10

Cook, Jared TEN TE - 9

I took Celek pretty early... 3rd round I believe. TE's were flying off the board. I thought about passing and scooping up some of the WR or RB value to be had here, but I didn't want to go another 18 picks and be left with scraps. Celek was the last of that top 7 on the board and even thought the TE bump is only .5 per reception, I felt that was the way to go. If Kolb leans on him as much as I think he will, I would not at all be surprised to see some big games early in the season while he gets more comfortable with the receivers. Shockey is an excellent TE2 while healthy and could end up being the flex play each week. Cook was a flier as one of my last picks in the draft.

Folk, Nick NYJ PK - 7

Nugent, Mike CIN PK (P) - 6

eh. 2 kickers. Nugent looks to be struggling in Cinci though.

Bills, Buffalo BUF Def - 6

Chiefs, Kansas City KCC Def - 4

Texans, Houston HOU Def - 7

I definitely waited too long to take a defense. The only one I really had targeted was San Diego due to their cupcake early schedule, but Chase took them pretty early on. These three certainly won't scare anyone, but the points allowed scoring is so piddly that I went for big play special teamers. I will not be surprised if McCluster or Spiller has a return TD in the first 5 games.

I feel pretty strong everywhere other than PK or D, and like my chances to move on. I do think this might be a better survivor team than an All-Play team.

I'm so screwed. With Rice out the first 8 weeks I need Royal to be Royal of 2008 if I even hope to have a chance to advance. Oh, and Knox needs to be on pace for about 110 receptions for the year at the end of week 5.

Hey, you're not the only one hurting. I lost Shawn Nelson for the first 4 games to a suspension. I don't know who's going to step up to be my 4th TE now?

You can kiss my  Ah well. I still have a chance but it's a long one. Without Shawn Nelson you're screwed!!

Housh cut from Seattle and signed by Baltimore makes Flacco and Branch both look like better picks...mainly Flacco. One week starting from Branch would be borderline miracle.

DWill pick also looks better since the draft, IMO

Laurent Robinson looks a lot better since Donnie Avery broke his leg as well.

Who else has had some good ups and downs since the draft?
