Cincinnati trip -- any recommendations? (1 Viewer)

I recommend you consider traveling somewhere good instead.
Yep. These guys won't have to worry about me coming back until maybe when my kid is old enough to enjoy Kings Island. If you don't care about baseball or amusement parks I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a place to go.

Paging trogg and jafo. I'm guessing bigfun and verbal kint have disappeared from teh face of the earth. Homer is in if he can make it.
I think Trogg is still local and would play.

Homer?

Jafo?

I am sure I'm missing some regulars.

Seems like we're already pretty close to full if someone actually sets the draft up this year.

Peyton Marino has also expressed interest. I think kirby has, too.

Count me in. Does not look like I am going to Iraq this year.

Cheese, I really appreciate you stepping up as commish! Thanks a lot, I know that's a bit of work to take on.

Looking forward to catching up at the draft! Beer Sellar again?

Good news all around

I'm in. Will be coming from Columbus so need some advance notice on a date if it's on a weekday (if we're doing it in person).

Yes - I was looking to make it. Do we have an idea when we would do this? I was wanting to coordinate it with a trip to see family.

Let's do this.

I'm all for concocting any reason to drink beer and swear like a sailor. There will be swearing right? And beer?

Would be good. I'll have a 4 hour drive and would like to coordinate it with visiting family as well.

Going to be in Cincinnati for a wedding Labor Day weekend. Won't have a ton of free time between the rehearsal dinner/wedding so we'll likely only get to hit a couple of the places mentioned in here for meals, but notes have been taken. Getting in on Thursday night with another groomsman and our wives and we're staying at the Residence Inn Downtown on E 4th St, right by all the stadiums.

Can you guys help me out with a decent sports bar near the hotel that - most importantly - will be open late on a Thursday night? We'll be trying to watch the Rutgers game, opening at Washington State in Seattle so we're looking at a 9:30 CT start. Figure I need a bar open until at least 1am, if not 2am just so we're not being rushed out of there/pushing up against last call. I know that Lager House was mentioned a lot and is very close but their site says it closes at midnight on Thursdays. Appreciate the help.

That's like a mile away from the casino. I'm sure you could find the game at a bar there.

Thanks. I actually checked there on the off chance they had a sportsbook (no). Looks like there's one bar there (Rock Bar) open til 2 but since they have live music Thursday nights, I'll likely use this as a fall back and keep looking for more of a normal sports bar.

Holy Grail

Yard House

Moerlein Lager House

Holy Grail gets my vote. Open til 230am on Thursday and no bands there. PLENTY of TVs. Shorter distance from you than the Lager House anyway. Plus the bartenders/wait staff are fun to ogle.

ETA: On weekends, I much prefer Yard House though. Their beer selection is massive. I don't think they are open past 1 on Thursdays though.

I had the same thought. I'll probably email them as it gets closer to see if they can dedicate a TV for us. Don't expect too many conflicts given the time.

Right on.

And if you do make it over to Moerlein at all, do yourself a favor and get the Moer Burger. I've mentioned it in other threads. It will change your life. They also have some very good beers, brewed in-house.

I'm staying at the Millenium Hotel downtown in October for work. Any good bars nearby? Would like to be able to catch MNF preferably someplace with a solid beer selection. Bonus points if it's a brewery.

What sort of things would you like to know about?
Places to eat or sightsee that locals would recommend. Like Skyline Chili (or whatever others would suggest).
Do not under any circumstances ingest skyline chili.

Trailer Park at Senate with duck fat fries

Fried chicken at the Eagle

Tacos of short rib torta at Bakersfield

Chicken and waffles at taste of Belgium

Fig jam and prosciutto pizza at a Tavola

Plenty more suggestions if needed

All the ones I mentioned earlier are in walking distance.

Rhinegeist up on Elm between Findlay and 19th is a decent local brewery that has an area with tvs

Rhinehaus is a good sports bar option

Thanks! It's been a while since I spent any time in Cincy (went to Miami U in the early 90's) and all my family that's down there are getting up there and not much help on the bar scene.

Holy Grail

Yard House

Moerlein Lager House
Just wanted to follow up with a recap and a thanks. The whole weekend was a blast and we ended up hitting a few of these spots. Yard House ended up being our location for the game, and you guys weren't lying about the beer selection. Beautiful, huge place too. The Bengals preseason game was that night and a bunch of players came in afterwards. Our table was next to Kevin Zeitler (2012 1st round pick) and his extended family. Funny part was when the bill came, they split it 3 or 4 ways and he didn't pick up any of them. Ray Maluagua came up to us, saw our Rutgers shirts and said "You guys are garbage" and walked away, before coming back for a handshake. They did close down at 1, and we went down to Holy Grail to watch the rest of the game and the celebratory shots afterwards.

Friday we did Moerlein for lunch and a couple drinks. The OTR was pretty solid. Mostly apps for food though, and I forgot about the burger mentioned in here unfortunately. Although based on my condition from the prior night, it might have killed me. Rehearsal dinner was at Top of the Park at the hotel, which was really nice, and we went to Jefferson Social after. Some real nice talent there. The groom wanted one last hurrah, and a few of us took an Uber across the river into Kentucky, where we encountered the worst strip club I've ever seen. When I say "we", I'm excluding the groom...who ended up passing out in the car. Don't worry, the Uber driver watched him for the three minutes we could handle being inside.

Saturday was all wedding stuff. Skyline Coneys were passed around at the end of the night after dessert.

Fun times overall. They did a really nice job with that whole downtown area by the stadiums. My biggest surprise, which no one corrected me on in the OP? Cincinnati was in the Eastern time zone!
