Anyone using the Pistol grip from Super Stroke? I'm going to try the weight, as I have a heavy mallet Scotty and want to balance it out some.

Shot a 30 on the back nine yesterday. Six birdies in a row. Both are bests for me by a long shot. I couldn't miss.

front was 42 :bag:

still my best score in a year

Last summer I shot 90 then came back 4 days later and shot 71, same course. I was 4 under after 6. Golf it's a strange game sometimes

Before playing today, these were my last five rounds on the same course from the same tees: 91, 101, 91, 100, 87. I managed to achieve the 100 without losing a single ball which is a good example of my awesome play that day.

I shot another 87 today. There isn't enough time in the day for me to practice everything I need to practice. I'm doing better getting off the tee reasonably well but I'm missing far too many greens to do much better than bogey golf.

Played my second Rd of the yr yesterday. It was drizzly for the first 3 holes then cloudy the rest of the day. I never play well in wet conditions..I have a tendency to hit irons fat when it's soft.

46 on the front with an 8 on the par 4 9th. After crushing a drive to the middle of the fairway :bag: . 4 putted from 20 feet

47 on the back. Didn't play as well after the turn. Putted horribly, chunked some irons..

93 with 5 pars smh

The only good thing I can take from the Rd was I hit my driver well all day. Longish (for me) and straight.

Can't wait to play again :)

Practice your chipping and putting and you'll drop to 82

Absolutely. My putting isn't very good - not surprising since I don't spend much time practicing.

My chipping has gotten better since I took a clinic last year but there's always room for improvement.

First round of the year yesterday was an outing for my kids' school--4-person scramble.  We shot 77. :bag:   I thought it was going to be worse--I was playing with a mother/daughter (8yo) and my 11yo son.  The mother and I started ham and egging it.

What is the new drop rule?

driving to Canada today for individual 2 day golf tourney.  course is simply great.  Fairly short for today standards but extremely hilly & narrow beyond belief. practice round tomorrow, then 2 days of tourney. Hope to break 80 both days as my handi is 7.   limp back to the States drinking gatoraide & water on Sunday.  Enjoy the link!

Enjoy!

Not much beats these types of weekends.

Looking at getting new driver and accompanying woods.  I need a much lower launch angle and my spin rate is waaaaay too high.  Need to get down to 2500.  Currently playing the Cobra Amp clubs with their stock stiff shafts. 9.5 driver that I set to closed to try to reduce launch. I'd say my swing speed is around 100-105. Was planning on saving up like 2k and just owning it and going for a fitting on the track man at a fancy golf center in the Phoenix area.

Unexpectedly I been offered a slightly used Titleist 917 D3 driver and the same model three wood, along with a Scotty GoLo, for $600.  Looks like an amazing deal but the catch is that it's non-refundable and pragmatically speaking it's just not plausible to hit them first.  Shafts in the clubs are very nice: Tour AD M9003 stiff shaft for the driver, three wood has the Oban xstiff 75 gram shaft. My understanding is that they are both low launch.  8.5 degree on the driver.

Anybody every hit these clubs? Reviews online look good.  I do like the weight options for customizing the driver.  Just not sure I'm good enough to hit them as I understand they are the professional models.  Currently a ten (my weakness is that I spray a bit and generally lose a couple strokes a round to penalty, combined with not playing enough to have a really good short game).  I think I'm going to pull the trigger just given how good of a deal this looks (and they probably wouldn't be too hard to re-sell), but trying to exercise some due diligence first.

That's a great deal on those clubs.  Those three would run you over $1000 new with stock shafts.  So even if you don't like the shafts you'd still be alright.

Spin is more affected by the shaft than the head.  And just because a shaft is a low launch shaft doesn't mean that you won't spin the #### out of it.  Every person hits each shaft differently, even two people with the same swing speed.  The only way for you to really find the right shaft is to go to a fitting center with a trackman and see the difference yourself.

I love this combo so far, with weight.  Feels like something Al Czervik would use...just get the thing aligned and let it do the work.  But working on not blowing it by 5 feet.

Anybody ever play Vegas?  I played for the first time against some much better golfers--there was a 5,6 and 7.  On one of the holes, I was paired with the 5 and one of the other guys drove a downhill, into the wind 375yd par 4.  He made the putt and his team scored 24.  Thankfully, my partner and I both parred the hole for a 44 so the "flip" didn't mean anything but unfortunately for us, the double kicked in and @ $2/point it "only" cost us $80 each.

Fun game.  :hot: :hot: :hot:

Only out half a tank of gas in the Ferrari on the way home?  ?

Really bummed. Tweaked my back on Masters Sunday. Turns out it's stenosis in L3/L4 and L4/L5 and causing bad sciatica. Did an epidural and every kind of therapy + beer/meds to get me through Member/Guest and our 24 guy, 5 day outing to La Quinta. A month apart, the latter ended last weekend. I can swing fine but it kills me to walk. I need to shut it down. Suspending club membership until I get healthy. And I played great in both tourneys with zero practice.

I had Hazeltine lined up first week in August too. Damn.

Save the $$$ and work on your short game.

Not sure I follow. My current woods are like 4 years old and are a terrible fit for me.

I'd also love to work on my short game; just need more hours in the day.

Damn. Sorry man. That sucks.

I pulled my adductor (inner thigh) on hole 3 of 18 on Memorial Day. Shot an 88 (at impact that muscle is stretched and it felt like someone was lighting it on fire with a ball pen hammer). Couldn't clear left at all.

Im gonna go in to a chiro/pt/massage therapist here that specializes in myofascial release and DCT stretching.

GL - I had I think it was hip tendonitis - whatever large tendon that is deep and attaches to hip and side.   1.5 years of pain on every swing.

Sorry to hear that, GB.  I hurt my back in January and just got around to a pain free round about a month ago.  Shut it down until you're healthy again.

Played a round with my brother last weekend and had an eagle on the first hole.  Drained a 7 iron from 174 yds on a par 4.  Soft bounce, roll left and disappeared.  We got in the cart and I said "oh are you in for a world of hurt today."  Then promptly double bogeyed #2.   :bag:   Was amped and hit a wayward tee shot.

Welp.  I now have a frozen shoulder on the right side (went through 2 yrs of PT and surgery on the left one - great now).  I saw a place in Toronto called Trigenics that has a manipulation under anesthesia procedure that is supposed to be great - and close to full go within a week or so.  I'm in.

Going the end of the month.  I gotta get back golfing.  Haven't played much in the last 7-8 years.

Shot 43/45 yesterday on a course I'd never played before. One of the few rounds where I didn't lose a ball and didn't have anything worse than a double.

Only hit 3 fairways and 4 GIR but didn't have any skulls/shanks from the tee or fairway. I'll be out of town the next two weekends so I'm sure when I come back it'll be like learning how to play all over again.

so my second round of the year.  My driver went off the rails - because I tend to swing too hard early on.  So this is the second time I even touched a club since November.

I hit every iron 10 yards farther

I mis-clubbed all day long which was frustrating but I still managed a 78 with some good putting and scrambling.

Broke 100 for the first time yesterday. 48-48. 1 minor asterisk (hit a tee shot that landed 1 foot ob and just hit from where it went out with a penalty stroke rather than going back to the tee. So call it a 97.

Also made 4 pars ( a record for me) and choked on a 3 footer for a 5th. Didn't lose any balls either. Considering that was mediocre off the tee all day and closed with 2 7's I'm pretty proud of myself. Just need to learn to hit softer chips. I've stopped skullin them but I'm still hitting them way too low and rolling them too far past the hole.

Hopefully it wasn't just a fluke.

whoa.  What was your investment?  Looks like you won in every flight.  Congrats!
7 flights.  I had two winners but neither cashed in the final.  Spent $500 on a team and won $7000.  The 5 other teams in that flight went for ~$11k.  Got lucky.  I bought the other team for $1200 but they bought half for $600.  They won $4600 and were a couple inches from making the money in the shootout which could have doubled the take.  Fun tournament.

I had a 1/4 share of the 2nd place team in the top flight.  That won $1200 and cost $300.

I also bought two teams that didn't cash for ~$900.  Obviously, I bottom fished as the total pool was ~$70k.

Had my once a year lesson today. Not a big fan of them but once a year I go see the same guy, he's a legit pro and played I in the senior US open and senior pga.

Anyhow I need help with the driver. Just not confident this year I'll hit two good ones and then a pull hook. Last couple years I was crushing the driver but that's gone. Oddly my irons are great.

He videos me and after my worst drive he has me watch it. Barf! I was over swinging and shoving my belly towards the ball on the downswing. This is a recipe for disaster. You're supposed to turn your left hip around on the down swing not thrust it forward.  After a bit I got it back so I thanked him and went out and played. Just crushed several good drives and my iron distances went back to where they used to be.  Well, just got the confidence back.

I'll keep working on it just to really ingrain it but this is what lessons are for. Usually it's just one or two little things you forget about and you need a reminder.

Just picjedf up the game again after a 12 year layoff.  I was never good before but played 4 times a week.  I've played two full rounds so far and had the goal each time to have three good holes a side, which I did. Played pitch and putt earlier this week and finished 16 over but had 6 pars, which made me happy.  I'm picking up a set of TM Burners tomorrow for $50 so I have something to practice with.  Will pick up some Eye 2 when I've hit a couple thousand more balls at the range. Really glad to be back.

Glad you're back, stranger

Thinking about selling my Eye 2s ...got them brand new about 7 years ago.  Let me know if you are interested.

Brothers and I looking for a golf trip...closer to Cincy the better, but we have driven as far as Grand National, Alabama for a 3 day event.

Here are the requirements:

1- Need some sort of AYCP setup

2- Would LIKE to play 36 different holes a day. A lot of offerings for the same 18 again, but those Robert Trent setups are 18,18, par 3 course...its heavenly.

3- Doesnt need to be super nice, we just wanna play golf IN BULK.

Brother is a member at the TPC course up here so if anyone knows of a TPC that offers the above, We would lean that way.

You guys that belong to clubs, does your place allow pull carts?

There's a very nice course 2 minutes from my house that offers what appeared to be pretty incredible deal for a junior membership through the end of the year. However I found out that they don't have/allow pull carts.

Half the appeal of golf for me is all the walking, but I've got a very iffy back, so carrying is very risky. Really don't feel like dropping 25 bucks 3 times a week to ride.

Is the " no pull carts" rule strictly a money grab? ( Knowing that most guys at country clubs aren't gonna want to carry). My dad's place has pull carts available so I was surprised that this place doesn't. Really bummed as it would be a really easy way for me to get a few rounds a week in after work.

We allow pull carts after 11 on weekends.

I think any time during the week
This makes complete sense to me. Most of my rounds would be in the evening after work  (course is also 2 minutes from my office) or in the afternoon on weekends. I'd be more than happy to ride at peak hours to both support the club financially and keep up speed of play (although I'm a fast walker and I really don't riding would speed me up all that much)

Just a real bummer, as its a very nice course, super convenient (plus I could play as a junior member for the next 4 years) and very reasonable financially.

Part of the reason carrying is such a PITA for me is I have an old bag(was planning to update this christmas. Maybe I'll just do it now and see if it makes carrying viable)  that doesn't have the backpack straps that most newer bags have. So I end up just carrying it over one shoulder. I carried one time last year (bought myself a pull cart this year so I could play some twilight rounds at the county courses) and the next day, my leg on the side I carried was just in agony.

do they have caddies at the course?

I don't know what they are stopping but if you are allowed to walk and carry then the no pull carts thing doesn't make sense imo

No caddies as far as I know. You can walk for free whenever you want.

Strange night in my league last night.  First of all I got drilled in the back with a ball. Some guy duck hooks it off the tee around some tress where I am getting ready to play my shot. Since he did not see me he never yelled fore.  Thankfully I had my back turned and it nailed me in the left lat area.  I have never been hit before and I first I thought I was shot by a hunter. Hurt like a #####! When I got home my wife said I had dimple marks from the ball.  Have a 4 inch welt there today.

Second how would you call this?   The guy I am playing is kind of a doosh.  He hits his approach shot just short of the green on the apron about 6-8 feet from the hole so he can`t mark it.  The ball is puttable so as he is taking his practice putting stroke he hits his ball and it rolls into a crappy area about 5 feet to the side.   My playing partner says it is a stroke and he has to play the ball where in now lays in some deeper grass..he says no that he can put it back to where it was without a stroke.  I was not sure of the rule so just let him put it back. So he puts it back and ends up draining the putt.  I ended up losing the match by one stroke.  My partner is mad because he said I should have counted the stroke and made him play from the deeper grass as he would have had to chip it and probably gets a 6 instead of a 4.

Rule 18.

Since the ball is in play (note this is why if you knock it off a tee by accident it does not count, because ball is not in play)

I'm pretty sure in your case it's a 1 stroke penalty but he has to put the ball back and play from there
