    Times have changed

As a child, growing up in Wisconsin, I was raised in a hunting and fishing culture.  I got my BB gun at 8, my first shotgun at 10, my first .22 at 11, and my first 30.06 at 12 years old.  I became somewhat proficient with those weapons. I hunted with my Father, Uncles, Grandfather, and Great...

    Iphone social distancing App

Just submitted to the unsolicited submission page at Apple Seems to me my Iphone has all the systems it would need to  measure a 6 foot social distance sphere and to alert me when folks get that close.  It also seems to me its camera system is capable of being modified to take the temperature...

    Stone Case Prosecutors

Resigning in protest of political interference in a criminal justice matter.  I could not be prouder of the integrity of these persons.

    Towards a new primary system

Why not run the primaries for seven consecutive weeks.  Each week a bundle of states representing roughly 560 delegates goes to the polls.  The bundles can be worked out but should, as much as possible, represent some geographic diversity, in fact the maximum that can be achieved.   Each...

Seattle vs Green Bay pregame thread

Lots of history, lots of scars. "We want the ball and we are going to score."  Good memory for me as a Packer fan though the first quarter of that game was a misery for me as I recall. The Fail Mary. -- It brought back the regular refs.  Bad memory for me.  Good one, I suppose, for Seattle...

Unofficial Packers vs Vikings Week 16 finale thread

The Packers have been winning ugly.  At best this year they have had a few good quarters or halfs, but never games.  They need to do so tonight to seize the opportunity before them.  I am anxious for the game to start.

Snow is drifted over my car

Woke to maybe 16 to 18 inches of fresh powder.  The wind has whipped it into drifts.  My sedan is completely covered.  My truck, well it is up to th edoor handles.  I passed up my morning ride and run and spent the calories shoveling. It sure is pretty.

    Help Otis name his dog.

Otis is going to need suggestions.  Now in the end it will not matter as it is fairly clear that his wife and daughters will have final say, but lets at least get some names out there for them to consider.  In offering suggestions remember Otis' lifestyle.  Likely he will be shouting the dog's...

Is Gus McCrea an incarnation of Lao tzu?

If you want any one thing too badly, it's likely to turn out to be a disappointment. The only healthy way to live life is to learn to like all the little everyday things, like a sip of good whiskey in the evening, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk, or a feisty gentleman like myself.”

Wife texts me to ask if I will drain her sisters pipes

Bless her she would never guess that I could take that as suggestive.

    27 traffic lights, all green

My morning commute is 11.8 miles.  There are 27 signalized intersections on the route.  This morning I hit every single one on green.  My commute which usually takes about 26 minutes in the morning only took 16. Ahhh simple pleasures!

    "We are selling pretty stones"

So I'm doing a bit of yard work last night when two little girls, 7 years old maybe, from up the cul-de-sac come running down and say '(DW), we are selling pretty stones, want to buy some?"  Well I get my wife and we walk up the way and these girls have a display table of maybe 100 rocks, river...

    Hearing Aid Thread

Rock Concerts and loud stereos, outboard motors and un-mufflered farm equipment, and firearms have my hearing very deteriorated.  It has been suggested to me by another poster (thank you Stealthycat) that I should address the matter with alacrity.  He is likely correct.  Share with me, if you...

When a Mod ends a thread closing debate, or more often a slap fight, the above notice appears in red text as the final posting.  I would like to petition the Mods to change that to "I said Good Day Sir!"  Can I get any support for this?

    Libertarian Presidential Candidates.

A shamefully nutty list thus far. I may have to go to one of my alternate third parties this coming election.

How many top five qurterbacks are in the league?

Tell me about replacement rain gutters

What do I need to know?  What are the best materials, manufacturers?  Are seamless the way to go?  How much should I be paying per linear foot?  Are the number of downspouts part of the calculation in estimating the job?  How long should it take?  Should there be prep behind the job, such as...
