This seems to be true for most teams in all sports. There are exceptions of course, even on the Steelers, but the reality in professional sports is that a starter has to be pretty terrible or the backup pretty amazing in order for a change to be made in season.

Do you honestly believe that Pickett/Trubisky/Rudolph is superior to Wilson/Fields? The Steelers dramatically improved at QB and it came at a bargain basement price, they moved up 20 spots to turn a 4th round pick into a 3rd in 2024 and acquired two 7th round picks in 2025.

Cost a potential 4th round pick. Steelers go from Pickett, Trubisky and Rudolph to Wilson and Fieds. I’ll take that.
