    ***OFFICIAL*** Washington Commanders Thread

This past season, Rivera said he wants to be a run first team. Bieniemy's background is clearly in the west coast offense, which uses a lot of short passing mixed in with or in lieu of the running game. So the big question is will they be run first or more west coast oriented?

There is no chance Rivera is getting fired this off season. The basic reason is new ownership will not be in place to make the change. Snyder will not fire Rivera because a new GM and coach, with a long term contract (say 5 years) will drive the sale price down if they buyers don't like the...

    ***OFFICIAL*** Washington Commanders Thread

I haven't posted much lately and I have not been following the team as closely as in the past. But here are some of my thoughts: 1. It may be hard to evaluate Rivera since there is always so much crap going on with the team off the football field. I think Rivera and a number of players have...

***Official 2018 Baltimore Orioles Thread*** Pitching Can’t Get Any Worse

This team has been so bad, 0.500 baseball and being near a wild card spot is so exciting. And this is all happening before most of the high end prospects arrive. Rodriguez, Henderson, Westburg, and Stowers will probably arrive next year. Hall will be pitching out of the bullpen later this year.

One item people may be missing on the QB issue:  Most likely, the Redskins were not getting Trubisky or Jamison.  If you were Trubisky, would you rather play for Pittsburg and Washington?  Everyone would pick Pittsburg every day.  So Washington has to overpay for a QB, and trading for him...

Unless I am missing something, 35x or 30x seems like a really high figure.  If you use the 4% rule (flawed as it is), that gets you to 25x. I am looking at retirement now at 20x, a really small pension, and social security in 10 years.  And Fidelity's model thinks I am in pretty good shape.

I know it is not the same, but the Ray Rice incident comes to mind.  Initially, the league gave Rice a slap on the wrist.  When the video become public, he was basically banished from the league.  So just maybe, Snyder will be forced to sell after getting a slap on the wrist.

I did not hear about this before.  From PFT: Of course, the report was never sent to the NFL. Link to the PFT story:  https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/02/07/106-7-the-fan-got-it-right-with-its-report-regarding-the-washington-investigation/

There is a very clear pattern over the past 40 years.  Republicans administrations cut taxes for everyone.  Then the Democrats increase taxes on the wealthy.  The net effect:  the  middle and lower class pay less and less taxes over time.  The high earners see their taxes bounce around, but...

I will take the opposite of both of these positions. There is always another shoe to drop.  This team is like a millipede.  It does not matter when they announce something, there will always be something else blowing up with the team.  It is the Snyder way.

    ADHD in children

My son was diagnosed with ADD (no H) when he was 10 years old.  We went with medications and they have made a world of difference.   At the time, he could not see the difference, but as his parents, we could see it. His medication are stimulants (he is currently on Adderall).  It was explained...

From a Jerry Brewer article in the Washington Post: And: After one year, the decision to let Kyle Smith go and bring in Mayhew and Hurney isn't looking very good.  Of course, one year is a very small sample size to judge your GMs, but the poor performance is definitely worth noting.

How much do you need for a decent retirement?

The SS calculator is really interesting.  It does show that the spouse benefit is reduced if my wife starts her own benefit early.

How much do you need for a decent retirement?

If you look at where the 4% figure came from, the study used withdrawing 4% the first year, and then increasing the amount to adjust for inflation each subsequent year.  It was also based on historical figures, stating it worked if you did this in the past.  There is no guarantee that it will...

How much do you need for a decent retirement?

Social Security is really complex.  Here are a few items that apply to my situation.  Please note:  I am not a financial planner.  Please chime in if you think my information is incorrect. 1.  If a couple has a large difference in social security benefits, the lower earning person can get half...

How much do you need for a decent retirement?

I talked to a Financial Planner at Fidelity.  He said the breakeven for Social Security is around 81.  So if you think you will live past 81, you get more by waiting until 70. One other note:  when talking to a financial planner, the ideal situation is to get your guaranteed income streams to...

How much do you need for a decent retirement?

I have been looking at retirement planning a lot the past couple of years.  Here are some general thoughts. There are two really big issues that are really basic to retirement planning: 1.  What will your expenses be.  The best approach is to figure out your current expenses, and then adjust...
