2012 Cake league (2 Viewers)

Do your "real" leagues have positional player game limits?

I think regardless of whether you have minimums and/or maximums, you have to have a strategy to maximize value.
Eligibility requirements sureGame limits? Like how many times a guy can be in your lineup? Abso####inglutely Not
Then it just devolves into a churn and burn through the waiver wire for pitchers and position players. It also crushes the value of players who get hurt, as crappy guys who play 160 games are worth more than a star who has a couple of DL stints
TU - I value your comment so please explain how game limits work.....what are roster limits?........what happens to a player if he reaches the limit on your team? does he thrown out? thrown back? Seems like you guys will have even more rules than most leagues to handle artifical limits
It's a position limit...you only get 162 games at 1B for example...You would stop accumulating stats for that position once the limit is reached...it does not affect who is on your roster...This prevents waiver wire vulturing of players simply because of their schedule or whether they are playing today when your starter is off...

In a 5X5 where you have 3 counting stats categories on offense versus 2 rate categories, this skews value

It also "feels" more like real baseball, as you draft a team and then, for the most part, manage that roster, with injuries and sub par performance a part of in season mnagement...

Without limits you could turn your entire team over every day, which seems artificial, at least to me

No idea where Hook is coming from on this. If you don't have GP and IP maximums, that most likely means you are competing in a league with weekly roster changes instead of daily. In that scenario, the lack of GP/IP limits makes sense because the rigid transaction rule allows for speculative weekly decisions and eliminates the concern of someone roster churning.Yes I mostly play in Weekly Lineup leagues

- but I have played in Daily Transaction leagues and no one is going to beat a good team by making changes every day as long as their are roster requirements - you could turn and burn your last SP spot but you are never going to toss Halladay or Kershaw or even Tim Hudson to find a guy who is starting that day.Rookie.Wookie

Not sure why we don't just go a hundy...and have FAAB. There. I said it.
Seconded.
Thirded. I'm not even sure what it means, but if it prevents teams from having 187 transactions by July, I'm all for it.I'd be in favor of charging a fee for all transactions. Maybe 25 cents? That would mean collecting money from people at the end of the season. I'm sure that would be a joy.

Works pretty well. Give each team like $200 in fake money to bid on free agents.

Looking at last year's league, no one really had an excessive amount of moves. Even cosjobs kept it under 100, but most folks were in the 40-60 range. No biggie.

it's a 16 team league with 5 (I think) deep benches, plus 2 man DL, so there's really never much available on the WW anyway. It's mostly just people rotating the flavor of the week in and out depending on injuries and/or minor league callups. The fact we have to utilize players that normally wouldn't be rostered in a fantasy league is one of the more endearing things about Cake.

$1250 and 100 innings

also, seems like a lot of window lickers want access.

why not make a cake 'b' division keep the entrants and do a no mercy thing where guys move up and down every

year based on performance?

there, I said it

When you say "division", do you mean a separate league with a separate draft?Regardless, thanks for your input 5 days before the draft starts.

Let's have the bottom 3 this year get sent down into Cake League 1 with 9 other lucky new squads.Make the B league a $35 league and then invite all the worst FFA posters like LHUCKS and Strikes2k to join making relegation even more painful. Only the teams who pay can be promoted the following year, but no one has to pay to be in the B league. This will attract the worst possible people which we will invite. Just make a long knob list and send out invitations.

More shocking, that Pickles was finally in the money or Scupper not in the bottom 5?
