After reading the forums I was directed to I found the protective covering over the camera lens. :bag:

Pictures look much better now. In all fairness it seems like lots of people did not realize there was a protective covering over the lens.
Yeah, when I looked at the lens it appeared to have a protective film but I didn't pick too much at it. Read your post and removed it. Thanks!

thanks for the responses.

now gonna look into getting one of these cases.
care to share why?

i use google play on wifi 99% of the time w no issues on my nexuss 5.

was it for initial setup purposes or something?

ps: spigen slim armor from amazon.. 14$, rock solid case
This is what I bought and I am happy with it. My only complaint is that it is VERY slick. I wish the back was a little tacky or rubberized. This phone will slide across the table easily and there is no way I can have it sitting on my middle console of the car. One turn and that phone hit the floor. I had an otter box for my last phone and I much preferred the rubber material that prevented sliding issues.
I have the Diztronic Matte Black cover and there is no sliding. Only complaint is the power button takes just a little more effort to turn on/off. Minor beef.

What the heck does "rooting a phone" mean and why would someone need to do it?

TIA
The easiest way to explain is this:

Think of your computer at work. Alot of things are blocked by the Administrators. So you can't download certain things, delete certain things, change certain things, etc. Well rooting basically gives you Admin rights and you can change anything you want on your phone. Don't like the bloatware that comes on your phone like VZW Tones, you can just delete it. Not getting updates fast enough to your phone for your liking, you can download a new ROM.

Rooting also helps the speed and battery life of your phone. Less junk is running in the background that you don't need so it saves your battery and frees up some RAM.

The downside is that if you don't know what you're doing, you could brick your phone (basically making it a fancy paper weight). Also, it does void your warranty so if something went wrong, you couldn't take it back to Verizon, AT&T, etc. But, the rooting community is so large that if something happens to your phone, more than likely, someone can help you fix it.

One thing I dislike about my S5, especially now that I have the Spigen Slim Armor, is the charger port is a PITA. Opening the port is more difficult with the case and the charger cable is a very tight fit. I appreciate the tight manufacturing tolerances but compared to the iPhone 4s that I came from it's snug going in and out (huh-huh). And compared to the new Lightning charger it's even worse.

With that in mind, I'd like to find a good wireless charging solution. Ive read good things about the Qi system. Is that the way to go to avoid adding thickness to the overall profile, or is there a better option?

I would avoid wireless charging.

Heard many horror stories with it... including overheating your phone/battery to the point of failure.

Still too untested and new to make it worth your while. I mean - if you want it, go for it... but the word out is, it's a pass

Kit Kat 4.4.3 is being pushed as of today for Nexus owners.

Goes out in batches so may not get yours for a couple days - but it's in the tubes.

I've been using one on my Nexus5 for the past 4 months with no issues. It is one of the great features of the phone IMO.

I want one... always have. but not willing to destroy my phone for it.

A drawback to being active on forums, u hear a lot of negative stuff

I wouldn't put one of those things next to my bed. There are still quite a few unknowns about the health effects of electromagnetic fields.

Kit Kat 4.4.3 is being pushed as of today for Nexus owners.
By Nexus owners you mean Sprint only Nexus 5 owners, right?
no. do not get confused.

Sprint made the announcement, but ALL OTA updates come directly from GOOGLE, not sprint.

updates will be for all Nexus 5, but the spark for sprint is apparently going to be activated in this release
Oh, so not for all Nexus owners.

Because I have a feeling that you may find more than one Verizon Galaxy Nexus owner who would disagree with you on the "ALL OTA updates" part of your middle line ;)

I am more interested in when the factory images are available.

nexus 4, 5 and 7 will all get the update soon apparently.

But the 5 is the flagship now, and will be the first

nexus 7? It better have a patch for how it broke my battery

Its not next to my bed.
Mine is. The range of the electromagnetic field is so small that I'm not worried at all.

It's awesome not dealing with a cord when I'm ready to go to sleep.

No problems from any extra heat yet. :crossesfingers:

I just bought one for my bedstand. My 20+ year alarm clock died and I like the alarm on the phone much better.

There is a q&a and general forum for each phone, where you can find questions as stupid as "where is my power button"?

developers keep themselves in the developer subforums of each phone
Yeah, I think the dev thread is protected for devs only. You do have to post in one of the general threads for a bit before you can post in any of the ROM threads.

I've flashed so many ROM's for my GS3 that it would make a n00bs head spin. I've grown tired of doing it after a hard brick (which was due to I trying to do a hardware thing, not because of a ROM). Now I'm back on pure stock, un-rooted. I hardly touch the device now as far as customization, apps, etc. I guess you can say I'm burned out, lol.

But those ROMs got the full value of my device and the some. Once I buy a new phone later this year, I'm gonna root and ROM the GS3 and use it for a media device only.

Finally got my hands on the S5. I have been setting it up for my wife & we are now both 100% immersed in the Google ecosystem. Both of are photos backup automatically to Google Photo & Google+ so we can share & backup all of our media easily. I have both of us using Google Hangouts as our primary texting app, which is cool because we can video chat. Turned location sharing on for both of us as well. She had a RAZR before, but it sucked. I had set some of the Google services up on that device, but the GPS was horrible and so were photos.

The Verizon bloat ware is annoying, but I just don't have any of those apps on the home screens.

Verizon has $200 bogo and they gave her a 7inch Elipses tablet for $40.

Ha. Since I'm gonna be getting a newer phone soon I've decided to play around with my S3 a bit and put a KitKat ROM on it just for craps and giggles. Having trouble deciding on which one. What's the easiest/least painful way to backup my phone before I flash a ROM? Do i really need to back up my apps since most were downloaded from the Play Store? Seems it would be pretty easy to just reinstall them from that. Its been almost 2 years since I've flashed a ROM and I'm sure there are better apps for backing up now than there was then. Ive got the latest version of TWRP recovery installed, can I just use that for backup? Ive also got Titanium Backup but I think I remember reading that there are better options out there now.

Oh, and please speak slowly and in layman's terms. I know the basics but am not up on most of the tech terms. Lol

Thanks man

I forget, but the best way to back up the device is via Odin or something similar. This is done with a computer. I can only flash back to stock though. I then used Titanium Backup (which only works with root, though I could be wrong, and maybe it works without it now) once I rooted or flashed a new ROM. I would save all of the apk's I wanted and then sideload them. I stopped trying to save data and media since I flashed often and then some. I flashed 8 different ROM's in a night once, so I got into the practice of not saving stuff on my device, rather I'd save them on a portable hard drive attached to to computer.

I have a 32 gig SD card now on my phone. It has nothing on it. That's due to all of the flashing I did. So I'm probably not the best guy to ask, lol. But you should check out XDA. That place is nerd porn/crack for me, and I stopped browsing there for good reason, lol.

ETA: TWRP is great. It sounds like you know what you're doing. I gave up and stay on stock because I'm on the current OTA update, and it has all kinds of bootloader lock, and I want to keep the modem.

TWRP should be all you need for a full backup - just run a back-up in recovery mode and save it to an sd card. I'm not sure about backing up apps and then running them on a new ROM. However, most of your key apps (but definitely not all) will automatically reinstall via the play store once you log in with your previous gmail account.

Flashing custom ROMS these days is much easier with Android 4.x than it was in the past. You really only need Odin now for rooting some of the phones or flashing back to stock. To install a ROM, just root, install TWRP, boot in recovery, then factory reset, clear data, clear cache, and clear davlik cash, install zip, and install gapps, and you are good to go.

Yeah, that's how I used to do it via TWRP. One thing I have to do before I flash again is delete a ton of apps I tried out on Play Store. I wish I could do that via the desktop. I used to try all kinds of apps, and it get's tedious using the device to edit the ones I don't use anymore.

I love my wireless charging on my Galaxy Note 3. I use Qi. Take a look at my Note thread somewhere, details are included along with links.

Don't know what the poster above is talking about. It works great.

I just always created a backup with Clockwork Mod. Then if something ever happened when flashing a ROM, I could just revert back to the older version with no problem and not have to re-download apps. You could also use Titanium backup to backup apps and such that way too.

Free app today over at Google Store is Shush! Quickly asks how long you want to mute your phone when you turn volume all the way down. Great for muting phone during meeting or movie. Great way to remember to unmute phone.

Waiting for the update on my N4 so I can get this. How much better is it compared to the old one?

I lost a fair amount of functionality that was in the old version, apparently the source code is there for most of it (and then some) in the update, but that doesn't help me now.

I'm going to pull the APK from and old backup and reload that.

apparently theres been a delay for some unknown reason

but its going to be released very soon... in fact, new google apps that are coming out say theyre 4.4.3 comparable. so, ya... soon. always rolls out slow.

For those who LOL think you're above iOS with by buying a Sammy: they are the lesser of any Apple phone out there. Good luck with OTA's. You have the dumbest Android phone out there with a ton of bloat. Your device will be locked, dumbed down, and full of features that don't even make real use of the hardware. It's the worst software and firmware out there. It's junk, plain and simple. I'm never ever going to buy Samsung ever again. I can't even get my SD card to read with the latest OTA. Samsung is junk. LOL at those who still buy this ####.

Don't know don't care. My camera is awesome...Nice crisp screen
Yeah, that's what I mean. It's meant for those who don't care about Android.
 ok. I have only owned android phones. Of all the phones and tablets I owned this phone is the best thus far better than my Nexus 7. Playing roms and everything on here. Just because I don't choose to go all inerd doesn't mean I don't know how or not care about android.. :lmao: :lmao:

My post is for those like I who bought Sammy. I want my device to be right there with Kit Kat. I don't care about being Ok with 4.1 ICS, or just barely on Jelly Bean. It looks like you aren't as demanding as I. That's ok. Just know that you are right there with any iPhone owner, even lesser. If people like you demanded more, we'd all get it.
