Astros 2012 thread: Crane era takes flight (1 Viewer)

•The Blue Jays get: Brandon Lyon, J.A. Happ and David Carpenter•The Astros get: Francisco Cordero and Ben Francisco plus minor leaguers Joe Musgrove, Asher Wojciechowski, David Rollins and Carlos Perez. They also get a player to be named later. Man that guy gets traded a lot.http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/20/the-blue-jays-and-astros-made-a-ten-player-trade-last-night/
and yes Francisco Cordero is now the closer...like it really matters.

Grossman, Owens and Cain

UPDATE, 9:33 PM: Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports says that Pirates outfield prospect Robbie Grossman is headed to the Astros in the deal. The 22-year-old former sixth-round pick is batting .262/.374/.403 with seven home runs and 35 RBI in 94 games this season at the Double-A level. More to come.

UPDATE, 9:42 PM: According to Heyman, the Astros are also getting Rudy Owens, a 24-year-old left-hander with a 3.14 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 85/25 K/BB ratio in 19 starts this season at Triple-A, and Colton Cain, a 21-year-old southpaw with a 4.20 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 51/25 K/BB ratio in 16 starts this season at High-A.

Not liking two blown saves on a team that's rarely in position to give save opportunities

The myth of the proven closer exposed again

Okay, I know Marte is highly regraded as a prospect, but did we really have serve a first pitch he sees in the majors home run.

If he's not going to play in Houston, he's better off getting regular ABs in Oklahoma City to work on whatever has killed him over the past month. Fernando Martinez has been playing well at AAA since his demotion. The Astros might as well see what he can do. They can fill the dugout with crappy Martinezes come September.

Astros relieve Brad Mills, hitting coach and 1st base coach.

On a related note: these men were seen hi-fiving each other post game style that they were not going to have to sit through 6 more weeks of so-called major league baseball.

Tippy and Carmelo appear yet?Is Fernando Martinez the former Mets' prospect?

Yeah, the ex-Met. He's still only 23. He was doing alright in his most recent callup until his current 0-15 streak. It would have been a more successful season no matter their W-L record if the Astros found a couple of young players who they could count on for the next few seasons. That list pretty much starts and ends with Altuve and maybe Jason Castro if you're feeling charitable.Harrell, Lowrie and Justin Maxwell will be over 30 by the time Houston is ready to make a run at .500.

I think what scares me is that with all the trades the Astros made they really just volumns of decent maybe types as prospects. while better than what was in the system, lots of developing and hoping in what looks to be a strong AL west it is looking like 2015 at the earliest before Astros might get into Seattleish range.

BTW, thanks for the bump. I need to update the manager rumors and start speculating the number 1 pick in the June 2013 draft. will try to get to that this weekend.
