Brandon Marshall asks to be traded from Broncos (1 Viewer)

Brandon Marshall did not take part in repetitions with the Broncos offense for the second straight day Thursday.

Coach Josh McDaniels is still not discussing plans for Saturday's game, and Marshall doesn't appear to be any closer to joining the offense. It's getting to the point where Eddie Royal should be drafted ahead of Marshall in all leagues.

The sight at the end of Broncos practice Thursday was pretty ironic. On the field, Broncos legend Rod Smith talked football with Eddie Royal, showing him different ways to set up defensive backs with his route running. About 40 yards away, disgruntled receiver Brandon Marshall had a long chat with assistant linebackers coach and longtime NFL player Roman Phifer. Nobody but those two know the nature of the conversation, but it is conceivable the receiver and linebackers coach were speaking about more than Xs and Os. The media was shooed away by the public relations staff before any of the four men came off the field, which shielded Smith from talking about Marshall. Smith was a mentor at one point for Marshall. A spokesman said a few minutes later that Smith declined to speak to the media.

Marshall didn't make any more strides towards playing on Saturday. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said decisions haven't been made on who will or won't play against Seattle in Denver's second preseason game. But for the second straight day, Marshall was not involved in repetitions when the Broncos ran their own offense against a scout defense simulating the Seahawks. He did once again play the role of Seattle receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh in practice.

On Wednesday, Marshall said he is not close to knowing the playbook. It will be interesting to see if the coaching staff uses him in a game after he didn't run any of the Broncos' own offensive plays over the final two days of preparation.

Not gonna read five pages of posts to see if it's been said, but it seems obvious that Marshall has planned this whole injured hammy, trade me strategy from the start. After his summer WR training camp w/ Rice & Cris Carter, Fitz twitted that he knew what Marshall was going to do this summer but couldn't say anything. Rather than being fined $15K per day for skipping camp, Marshall reported as obligated, with the intention of dogging it and forcing a trade... He's a punk.

I agree Marshall is a punk but not because of this...players should do what they can to get their money.

I can't believe he doesn't know the playbook yet...

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that whether Marshall is a punk or not, the job of a coach is to identify the talent on his team, put in a system to take advantage of their talents, and motivate them. So far McDaniel's has driven away his starting QB and appears to have lost his star WR. There were people who blamed Cutler earlier this year for what happened with his situation. Now the same thing is happening again. It could be that Cutler and Marshall are two of the punkiest, most selfish players in the league--or it could be that McDaniels doesn't know what he is doing. I'll put my money on the latter.

Both is a legitimate option. Dealing with selfish punks is part of being a pro head coach.

I agree 100%. I don't understand how these NFL coaches come in and the first thing they do is alienate the current stars of their team. Bowe listed as 2nd string in KC. Cutler getting chased away then Marshall and all this nonsense. Wouldn't it be more prudent to come in as a new coach - get your best players together and let them know they are needed for the team to succeed. Spell out the plan and let them know what their part is and how they will be needed to lead. Say whatever you need to say to make sure they are happy and on the same page as you.I just can't believe that McDaniels chased Cutler out of town for a QB that looks to already be losing his starting job in KC.To me this Marshall madness could have been avoided right from the start. Come in - bring Marshall in and let him know he is going to be the #1 WR and lead this team as they turn things around. Good luck with your court case and we are here for whever you need to help get through that. If you can get that straight, come in here and lead by example, learn the playbook and do all the right things, I promise you will get your 100+ receptions, 1200 yards and 10+ TD. Then at the end of this year you will be rewarded with the biggest contract any WR has ever seen. Get him signed up! Instead we have this mess.
