FBG Staff vs Message Board's Best (1 Viewer)

Killer idea.....how are you picking the message board 12?Love to be in it although won't be on a computer until next Monday. I'll be checking in then.

I don't know Unlucky well but everything I've read of his is well thought out, even though I always don't share the same opinion. He would be a solid choice as Jason Wood mentioned, so would Drugrunner and Gridiron Assassin. Unfortunately none of those guys are Cowboys fans ;)

Asskissing you say?No chance. All you will get from me is caustic diatribe aimed at whoever attempts to prevent me from being among the twelve and ultimately team captain next year. In any case, FBG has already stolen all of the respectable MB members to make them staff. I am the only decent drafter/FF analyst left around here who doesn't have a silly portrait on the home page.I have been around long enough to know that it will be an uphill battle to get on the team, but my credentials are impeccable. I was a finalist in the ORIGINAL message board survivor league, won the initial year in a 3rd year dynasty formed here at FBG (jaWs), and beat-up on my "lesser" leagues regularly. As for writing skills, while I don't have a Pullitzer, I think I can hold my own there too.If I were to be made captain, my selection criteria would NOT be to select strictly guys who think like I do, but to try to get a fairly diverse group to allow each team manager to play to his/her strengths. I will look for experience with survivor league formats because I believe that the approach to these leagues should be a little different than is typical. I will also look for heavy participation here and hopefully experience against other board members in leagues fully or partially formed here.Alright, just put me on the team already, or make me Captain, I don't care which. In fact, I believe I will change my name to Captain Schneikes later today just to speed up the process.Long live cheatsheets.net. Wait, was that ###-kissing? ;)

I'd be honored to be the captain. If not, I'd be happy to be on the team. This is a tough challenge - the staff has little weakness. It's going to take a team of original thinkers to win this league.
I'll throw my ample weight behind Unlucky. He's a great source for all that is not establishment!

My Nominations For Captain:TwilightUnluckyNot just because of their FF capability, but because of their contributions to the board over the years. A kind of Thank You.

I hereby nominate for Captain:

GRIDIRON ASSASSIN

Good organizational skills, well-informed, fierce competitor.

Who will second the nomination?!
I would second it, but I thought we wanted to leave all the Bears and Duce to the STAFF. ;)

Well, with the cash out there, at least the Captain of the MB will choose who he feels has the best chance of helping him win, not just take his buddies. It'll be interesting to see who will represent us.....
When will the Captain be nominated by FBG and how long does that person have to decide who they will bring into battle? Will you nominate him on a seperate thread or just put it on this one?
Hi Cowboy,Let's see, with FedEx delivering to my office at 11 am, I should be able to go through the "applications" from the potential captains by 1 pm. When writing those "application" checks, that's Bryant with a "t"... ;)Seriously, what David said. We'll make a call on this quick and get this thing rolling. J

Wow! What a great idea. I think I mentioned this last summer. Its cool though. No hard feelings.. :cX: Anywho. I'd like to be on the team. I've played for five years, made the playoffs all five, and won three times in a 12 team league. Enough about my past, if selected, I promise to heckle JoeB and Colin with Patriots info, and how Tennessee won't make the playoffs.. This distraction factor should not be discounted... :D

Shameless Hijack: The message board Spring Survivor League signups are going on in the Mock Drafts R' Us forum.

This is awesome. And you guys are awesome. And I am awesome (so pick me) for the message board team.Seriously, I'd like to participate if I can. Just direct me towards the right (_|_) and I'll start kissing.
I knew it Bert and Ernie are ....!I like gridiron or drugrunner as well. Always enjoy their posts.

Here are a few more tidbits:1. Each side will have exactly the same roster spots (1-12) to make this contest 100% equal. ie - league 1:1 - FBG2 - MB3 - FBG4 - MB5 - FBG6 - MBetcand league 2:1 - MB2 - FBG3 - MB4 - FBG5 - MB6 - FBGetc2. Team Scoring (Staff vs MB) will be based on value earned by the final 8 contestants1st place = 20 points2nd place = 15 points3rd place = 10 points4th place = 8 points5th place = 6 points6th place = 4 points7th place = 2 points8th place = 1 point Prizes will be the following: 1st Place = $5002nd Place = $2003rd Place = $754th Place = $505th Place = $406th Place = $307th Place = $258th Place = $20 A Bonus of $500 given to all 12 message board members ($30 each and extra $140 to top MB team) if they beat or tie the FBG staff in the overall competition. Additionally if the overall winner is from the Message Board, he will earn MB Captain honors the following season. So if a MB person wins, and his team wins the team title, he will pick up a cool $670. Not bad for a free league.3. Leagues will be Survivor style so no roster management is needed - Your time commitment will just be to draft a great team and submit the writeups on time.- 20 rounds of drafting- No trading of picks- No trading of players- No free agent pick ups- Serpentine drafting.- No submission of rosters. Each week 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 PK and 1 Def/ST will be maximized for your weekly score.
What happens when the MB wins both leagues?

Unlucky - Nominee for Captain

Gridiron Assassin

BassNBrew

Drugrunner - being a blogger guy doesn't count as "staff," correct?

nightshift - if his NFL Mock draft skills are any indication of his "Survivor" skills, he should be a lock for the 12

JAA

tommygunz

twilight

iwannabeacowboybaby

Macartist/Invisigirl/GTGGirl - Gotta get one of the FBG ladies on the team, so when the MB wins, the staff will have been beaten by a girl.

Others: (12 is just not enough)

Wheelhouse

Captain Holy Schneikes

the list can go on & on....

No werewolf players. That would distract the MB team from spending 24-7 on their survivor draft like they should be.

Hey DD, I have a question. Is there anything for the remaining members of the mb to do if they are not on a team? Anyway to include the remaining members of the board? I was thinking in the lines of the contest you ran last year where we all picked an auction team and the top 10,000 moved from week one to two, and then the top 8,000 moved on in week 2, etc...Are you guys doing that again this year??Thanks!

Unlucky would be a solid choice because he's drafted against most of us staffers. In fact, Unlucky was actually Dodds last minute fill in in our Footballguys Staff League last season, so we know he brings it strong to the hole. :boxing:
This is not a topic open for discussion. :shickrant:

Better go with Beckster then. She did real well, actually the best out of all the the MB people that were in the 15K contest last year. And out of those you listed as females, Beckster is the only one I know to really be a female.

Count me in. If Unlucky is in, I have to do it.Shick! oWns the unlucky one.
For the record,Shick! had THE dominant team in our staff league last year...unfortunately he ran up against the Team Woodrow juggernaut just as McNabb and Faulk were getting their swerve back in the 'offs. :D

Thanks for the vote! If chosen, I will give it a 100% and will proudly represent us rank "amateurs" against the FBG experts.

There are no winners in each league. The top 4 advance from each league to the final 8. The final 8 teams will be decided by total points in weeks 13-16. Each of these teams will start with 0 points. If the MB gets 3 of 4 in each league to advance, they will beat FBG unless FBG wins the Top 2 spots (worth 20 and 15 = 35).

I feel like Louis Gossett Jr. in "Diggstown." I'm just salivating at the chance to knock all challengers out, one week at a time, in route to yet another crown...:smacktalkrules:HERD

Great idea. At the very least it will help me figure out which of the footballguys and which of the message board guys to listen to.I'd be happy to participate if the message board team needs another member.

To the MB Captain:

-Im looking to break out as a Fantasy Football player, ive been in the minors, but i think im ready to step up to the big show. I would really like this chance to prove myself. Ive played FF since I was 12, im 19 now, and in college, and am at my desk a lot reading, homework, etc, so i am allways online.

-A little about me:

"I believe in the soul, the ####, the #####, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sauntager are self-indulgent, over rated crap. I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe that there should be a constitutional ammendment outlawing astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft core pornography, open your presents Christams morning instead of Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last for three days."

But really, I would love the chance to showcase my skills. I would hope the Captain would at least consider someone that he/she does not allready know for the team. Thanks

PLEEEEAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEE!You call that smack? I heard better smack watching Barney & Friends with my 3 year old.You best get some rubber gloves on, Herdie, 'cause you're about to get your a-s-s handed to ya!

I would love to be involved if so desired.

This will be my 18th fantasy season.

Along with a truckload of experience I also bring to the table some 'insider sources' (references to previous posts validating this claim are available upon request.) on occasion which I would be more than happy to share exclusively with my teammates.

If you haven't beaten an expert at his own game, you're just letting the best of life pass you by.

Poor staffers. They will rue the day they decided to tustle with the general population.

The inmates run this asylum!

I agree that Unlucky would make a great captain. Captain, My Captain, please choose me to help destroy the FBG staff. ;)

I hope those emails with updates don't stop coming in now that FBG is competing vs. us :D
Don't worry, we want the board to at least be competitive. :P
What happens when the MB wins both leagues?
It will be a very cold day. ;)
Maybe we should stop the emails since it's the blogger guys and MB guys that find most of them.

I find it funny that the Message Board members want to put their faith in a guy called "Unlucky". "There goes another starting RB to injury" "Is it pretty common for NFL players to get struck by lightning during the season?"Oh the fun is just beginning...

Judging by the mugs in the profiles, "Unlucky" would be a good handle for several people around here.

The good news is that with the way the contest is structured it will take at least 8 weeks before all of the MB members are eliminated.Glad I decided to make eliminations 1 per every 2 weeks after the first 4 weeks or this thing could be over before it even started.I do believe that there is some luck involved in fantasy football. Because of this I do think the MB could possibly advance 1-2 people to the final 8. I am not expecting it, but it's certainly a possibility.

I concur.

 Very good point. I was just going off the top of my head as far as names went.Beckster should definitely be included after her performance in the $15k last year.Beckster - so sorry for any perceived slight. none was intended.

In the spirit of the presidential elections coming up, i think there should be a campaign, complete with negative ads (posts) against other nominees, expressing why one MB member would be the best to serve the interests of all of us MB'rs. I want to see mudslinging, negative campaigning, personal attacks and tomfoolery. And at the end, it'd be fun to let the democratic spirit rule, set up a poll with the nominees and let the majority vote. Or have a representative democracy, where a few of the top posters all go to vote for their pick. But anyhow, i think it'd be funny to see some campaigning going on.Also, i love the overall idea. I can't wait to begin the season and see the FBG's get handed a solid defeat; a just reward for their cockiness in assuming they're the ones to beat :boxing: . LET THE GAMES BEGIN...sometime in the all to distant future :)

I smell side action. Do you have your sombrerrrrro?

LOL...I knew someone would see it that way. But in the 14 leagues I participated in last year, I owned McNabb in two, it was just that with such a deep league (we drafted 22 players each, 12 man league), I felt there was value in the 3rd round and thank goodness I did that, he was key to my run to the title.
