Where can one find the rules of this league again and what time is the draft?
ThreadFirst post has general rules and link to MFL league where they are more detailed. Draft starts at 8:30pm Eastern on Thursday.

Brutal draft for me. Just unfocused and no real plan at all. I was hoping for another top 5 finish in this thing, but I have a long road ahead. Off the top of my head, I liked what MT, Klecker and Lehigh did in particular.

Meh, I wasn't too happy with how that went for me.

After Moss and Wayne my team's a whole lot of mediocre.

I almost avoided players on bye entirely but it was more of an accident as I was never really in a spot where one was at the top of my draft board. It kind of lulled me to sleep though and I made a mistake picking Maclin when I already had another WR on a week 4 bye and a couple other WR's ranked the same as him.

Hopefully that shouldn't matter much though because of my other mistake. I had it in my head that I needed to grab 7 WR's because of the format. But when your first two are Moss and Wayne, how often are those later round WR's even going to be scoring for you? I should have scaled that back to 5-6 WR's and used a spot on a third D or extra RB for my suspect rotation.

The other thing that was throwing me off in the later rounds was that as I'd get ready for an upcoming pick I'd target a few players and they would usually all go right before me. Then I'd scramble and make less than optimal picks. Sure everyone's probably using DD but some weren't at the top of the list. Guess that's why its tough to draft against guys getting their info from the same place. (And makes me again wonder about ever spreading the word about FBG directly to anyone in my home leagues)

A couple of the specific examples (to make those guys feel a little better about their picks) were:

Rd 2 - Brown (who I was hoping would fall), Fitz, and Turner going the 3 picks before me in round 2.

Rd 9 - Hoser took Derrick Mason in the spot before me

Rd 11 - Wood, Fro and Hoser took Hightower, McCoy and Wells the 3 right before me

Rd 13 - After taking Faulk in the 12 and hoping Taylor would be there at 13, Hoser took him one spot before me

Rd 14 - ConstruxBoy took Jamaal Charles 2 picks before me

Rd 21 - Hoser strikes again and takes Jared Cook in the pick before me

Will be interesting to see how things shake out though, hopefully a few guys from my pool of mediocrity swim out and step up each week to help me out.

I don't have access to MFL here at work, but if someone posts the teams, I'll go over the carnage for everyone.

One of the big questions facing us all in these leagues is how much do you weight the byes. This is particularly onerous in 2009 given the huge number of important fantasy players on bye in Weeks 4 and 5. Picking from the 2nd spot (PPR), and it being 6 points per passing TD, I had a definitive plan going into the draft.

1) Grab either AD or MJD at #2, whoever fell to me [if both fell I would've taken MJD in PPR]

2) Grab one of the three elite QBs at the 2 spot if he was there, otherwise best WR/RB available

3) Try to grab another Top 10 RB with a bye after Week 5

4) Let WR come to me, recognizing that in PPR/best ball, it's OK to have a bunch of mediocre WRs on good offenses

5) Be aggressive at QB and not be afraid to grab another Top 5-6 QB to give me a decided advantage given 6ppTD, best ball style

6) Also be aggressive on TE, trying to ideally snag one of the Top 4 (Witten, Gates, Gonzo, Clark) and another high upside Top 10

7) Grab a 3rd QB and 3rd TE late, ideally clear cut starters with job security

8) Grab two defenses late that had no bye issues

9) Grab at least on PK with no bye issues and hope a studlier PK falls from a great offense b/c of the bye week

All in all, I was quite pleased with how my draft went. A quick perusal of my team shows you that my two main issues are:

1) No stud WR [but I feel my collection are likely to give me several 100-yard, 1TD+ games per week]

2) Absolutely no depth should either MJD or Brandon Jacobs get hurt

But in this kind of format, I knew I would have to sacrifice something especially if I was going to stick to my plan to have a great QB/TE position.

Here is my team:

QB: Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins

RB: Maurice Jones-Drew, Brandon Jacobs, Tim Hightower, Laurence Maroney, Bernard Scott

WR: Devin Hester, DeSean Jackson, Kevin Walter, Steve Smith, Kevin Curtis, Laurent Robinson, Keenan Burton

TE: Dallas Clark, Dustin Keller, Chris Baker

PK: Garrett Hartley, Josh Scobee

TD: New England Patriots, New York Jets

Here is my Rate My Team analysis:

Overview:

The quarterback position looks good, and we like your overall strength at the tradionally less important positions as well. Despite not being strong at running back and receiver, we think this team should be the league favorite or very close to it.

Nevertheless, we feel compelled to mention that the RB and WR positions make us a bit nervious and are likely to require some attention throughout the year. We'd feel much better if we knew you were committed to scooping up 2009's breakout players at RB and WR. Getting one or more of these would take this team to the next level.

Players we particularly like on this team include Kerry Collins, Kurt Warner, Kevin Curtis, and Garrett Hartley. We have all these guys ranked ahead of where they are typically being drafted.

Bottom line:

* With great inseason management, we think you have about a 80 percent chance of making the playoffs.

* With good inseason management, we think you have about a 65 percent chance of making the playoffs.

* With average inseason management, we think you have a 53 percent chance of making the playoffs.

In any event, we wish you the best of luck. Here's hoping all your weeks are like week 16 of 2007:

Brandon Jacobs vs. BUF: 151 combined yards, 2 TD

Laurence Maroney vs. MIA: 156 combined yards, 1 TD

Maurice Jones-Drew vs. OAK: 140 combined yards, 1 TD

Dallas Clark vs. HOU: 60 receiving yards, 2 TD

Kurt Warner vs. ATL: 361 passing yards, 3 TD

Laurent Robinson vs. ARI: 114 receiving yards, 1 TD

QB Summary:

You don't need us to tell you this, but we'll tell you anyway: Drew Brees should ensure that your production at the quarterback position is among the best in the league. We have him as the #2 QB according to your scoring rules, and we figure he gives you about a 2.8 point-per-game advantage over an average starting QB.

We also love Kurt Warner as a backup. In fact, we think he's good enough to be someone's starting quarterback in this league. With Brees in place as your starter, he's something of a luxury for you. If he plays like we expect, you should be able to get good value for him in a trade after quarterback injuries hit some of your opponents.

Incidentally, Warner has what we project as a neutral matchup (HOU) during Brees's bye.

Kerry Collins is a solid depth pick.

RB Summary:

While your lack of depth at the position concerns us, we do like both your starting running backs, as our projections indicate that they give you a combined 3.4 point-per-game advantage over an average opponent in this league. Our projections have Maurice Jones-Drew ranked at #2 and Brandon Jacobs ranked at #12.

We don't particularly like Tim Hightower as a third running back. Laurence Maroney is also a liability at fourth running back. We don't particularly like Bernard Scott as a fifth running back.

A quick note about the same-team Jacobs/Steve Smith duo you've got here. Though the effect is probably negligible, this kind of pairing is likely to make your team more (not less) consistent than a comparable-scoring different-team pair. See this article (which was written before the 2008 season) for more discussion.

Note that the above "thoughts" were generated by Jason Wood's projections. Others have different takes:

Laurence Maroney is ranked #48 by some of our writers, which would make him a fine fourth running back. Jeff Pasquino reasons, "Maroney played most of 2008 with a broken shoulder and has recovered from the injury. While not a guaranteed starter, he has just Fred Taylor to beat out for the top job and push to be the top dog in the backfield once again. The Patriots still like to use a committee approach with their tailbacks, but given how cheap Maroney is to acquire for this season, you may not find a possible starter with a better price tag."

WR Summary:

We see all your starters at receiver as below average. DeSean Jackson is our 18th ranked WR, Kevin Walter is #32, and we have Steve Smith 35th.

Your bench looks good and should help offset the unexciting starting unit. Devin Hester looks great as a fourth receiver. Kevin Curtis is also a very nice WR5. Laurent Robinson should serve as a very solid sixth receiver.

Keenan Burton is a solid depth pick.

Note that the above "thoughts" were generated by Jason Wood's projections. Others have different takes:

Some of our staffers have Kevin Walter as high as #30. Jeff Pasquino's take: "Kevin Walter is a very underrated NFL wideout. After four seasons he finally got his chance to start for Houston in 2007 and put up over 800 yards and four scores, followed by 899 yards and 8 TDs last season. Walter is the complimentary WR to Andre Johnson in an offense that loves to throw the ball, and Johnson often misses time each season. Walter reminds me quite a bit of Lance Moore's situation in New Orleans as a strong second receiver with WR1 upside."

TE Summary:

Dallas Clark should be above average as a starting tight end. We have him ranked fourth overall at the position. We also think Dustin Keller is a starting quality tight end in this league. He's a luxury.

We're not sure that Chris Baker adds much, as you're already strong at the position and we aren't convinced he's roster-worthy in this league anyway.

Kicker Summary:

Garrett Hartley, our fifth ranked kicker, won't win the league for you, but he'll do.

Defense Summary:

Between the Patriots and the Jets, you should get above average production here.

So here is my team:

Manning, Eli NYG QB 10

Roethlisberger, Ben PIT QB 8

Eh, two average starters. Not very exciting and I'm sure I'll be losing this position a decent amount, but it could have been worse. Kept missing the guys I wanted, and then was going to grab a 3rd QB but Pennington, then Russell, then Bulger went right before me. Very annoying.

Brown, Ronnie MIA RB 6

Charles, Jamaal KCC RB (P) 8

Forsett, Justin SEA RB 7

Harrison, Jerome CLE RB 9

Slaton, Steve HOU RB 10

Washington, Leon NYJ RB 9

Good group. Not a huge fan of Slaton, but he was a fine pick there. Love Brown this season and like Washington and Charles. Added Harrison based on pre-season buzz and then a lottery ticket in Forsett. All of them except Brown are good PPR guys. Like this position.

Cotchery, Jerricho NYJ WR 9

Hixon, Domenik NYG WR 10

Rice, Sidney MIN WR 9

Royal, Eddie DEN WR 7

Walker, Mike JAC WR (P) 7

White, Roddy ATL WR 4

Williams, Demetrius BAL WR 7

Ugh. Really like Royal this year a lot, but I still reached for him. Then I took White when I probably should have taken Ochocinco. Really wanted A Gonzo and when he went right before me, compounded my misery by taking Cotchery over Santonio Holmes. Should have taken Keller or Winslow instead of Hixon. Happy to get Rice. Have to pray that Walker's fragile body holds up. And Williams....don't even get me started about taking Williams instead of Jared Cook when I knew that guys who needed TEs would draft before it got back to me. Just a stupid f'ing move.

Finley, Jermichael GBP TE 5

McMichael, Randy STL TE (Q) 9

Scheffler, Tony DEN TE 7

Poor group of TEs. Kept missing the spot to take my first and made some bad decisions as well. After the 3rd QB debacle, I decided to shore up this group. Screwed up the Cook choice so went with Finley.

Brown, Kris HOU PK 10

Graham, Shayne CIN PK 8

Eh, not bad, but not as good as I could have done.

Colts, Indianapolis IND Def 6

Seahawks, Seattle SEA Def 7

Decent DEFs. Neither on bye.

So only two players on Bye (White, Finley), but just a mess of a team. I didn't have a plan at all for this other than to mostly avoid Bye weeks. I ended up looking at SOS data waaaaayyyy too much, even though I don't like to use it much (although I think it is more accurate for the beginning of a season than the end). Don't think I have much chance to advance.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for the invite.

Checking in with my post draft wrap up.

Like most, my plan was to grab starters that would be there for all 5 weeks.

I wanted to avoid rookies...typically slow starters.

I wanted 3 QB’s.

If Brady fell to the first turn…take him.

Otherwise, trust Draft Dominator.

The results were pretty balanced. I think this squad has a legitimate chance to compete for a top 4 showing. Biggest regret was waiting too long on QB3. 29 QB’s were gone by the end of round 15, and I saw better value and higher need at other positions.

I was a bit surprised by the apparent disregard of the bye with some of the early picks.

It’s making me wonder if I placed too much emphasis on avoiding these players.

As always…it was 4 hours of fun!

Does anyone have the team rankings from DD they could post?

I missed a pick somewhere and my teams were all off so I gave up tracking the last few rounds.

here is who I ended up with at the 1 spot:

da_budman

Delhomme, Jake CAR QB 4

Leftwich, Byron TBB QB 8

Rivers, Philip SDC QB 5

Quarterbacks. Probably where I did the worst. I took Rivers too early with the bye week looming, followed that up with a mediocre backup while I was busy snagging wr's and RB's and finished it off with some crucial misses and ended the draft with a guy who may not even start. The key to my team may be how well Rivers plays.

Graham, Earnest TBB RB 8

Mendenhall, Rashard PIT RB 8

Peterson, Adrian MIN RB 9

Rice, Ray BAL RB 7

Stewart, Jonathan CAR RB (P) 4

With Peterson having a decent schedule, I am hoping he starts each week. I have some question marks at RB 2 but they all have potential but al have question marks. I cant imagine one of them per week wont make a fine br 2.

Bowe, Dwayne KCC WR 8

Bradley, Mark KCC WR 8

Clayton, Mark BAL WR (Q) 7

Edwards, Braylon CLE WR (P) 9

Higgins, Johnnie Lee OAK WR (P) 9

Jennings, Greg GBP WR 5

Muhammad, Muhsin CAR WR 4

I went 7 deep with my wr's and was quite pleased that Bowe and Jennings were there at the turn. I considered qb at the turn but the ones I wanted were gone. Knowing I had a stud rb, and knowing tier 2 wr's would fly off the shelf, I took my top 2. Being in the one hole is bad when you are drafting against great competition. It was painful to watch someone ALMOST make it 23 picks back to me.

Bennett, Martellus DAL TE 6

Daniels, Owen HOU TE 10

Owens should be a fine TE but I reached on Bennett. I just keep hearing great things about him and I can see him being used quite a bit. My DD had slipped a bit so I didnt realizw Olsen was still available or I would have taken him over Daniels.

Crosby, Mason GBP PK 5

Folk, Nick DAL PK 6

2 fine Kickers. albeit 1 with a bye week

Giants, New York NYG Def 10

Panthers, Carolina CAR Def 4

Titans, Tennessee TEN Def 7

Not sure why I drafted a 3rd defense after having 2 strong ones but I did.

overall I think I have a decent shot to advance but need a couple of breaks to go my way(though thats true for all of us) My strengths are WR, Defense, and as long as a RB2 works out each week, BR.... My whole year may hinge on Rivers at least putting up numbers near the middle of the pack.

My DD (which admitedly had a few mistakes) had my team rated as 1 that should advance and MFL had it rated second (which was too high given that it doenst know we are only playing 5 weeks)

I would be curious if someone who has a totally accurate DD, which was configured to only take the first 5 weeks into account, would post the results , both for starters only and team strength.

Here's what MFL had to say...

Coach Franknbeans had a unexceptional draft in the recent 2009 FBG Survivor - League 8 draft. Their Franknbeans franchise came away with the number 7 ranked draft (out of 12) in the league based on analysis by MyFantasyLeague.com.

Franknbeans made their best pick of the draft in round 6, selecting Marshawn Lynch with the 63rd pick of the draft, as compared to the 42nd spot he should have been selected in, according to ADP rankings. "He's going to set the world on fire," Franknbeans coach Franknbeans said.

Franknbeans made their worst pick of the draft in round 2, selecting Pierre Thomas with the 15th pick of the draft, as compared to the 37th spot he should have been selected in, according to ADP rankings. "He's a work in progress," Franknbeans coach Franknbeans said.

Franknbeans nabbed Andre Johnson in the 1st round, which reflects the fact that he was the number one ranked wide receiver for the 2008 season, based on this league's custom scoring rules.

Franknbeans took a chance on the first rookie in the 2009 draft by selecting Knowshon Moreno in round 3 of this year's draft.

With a little bit of work on the waiver wire this season, or a few strategic trades, coach Franknbeans should be able to turn their 7th ranked draft effort into a championship fantasy team this year.

Here's what I have to say...

I admit the selection of Pierre Thomas was a reach in Round 2. The players I was interested in (Slaton and CJ) were both selected before my 1st and 2nd picks leaving me little choice but to draft backs who either might not be as strong in a PPR format (Turner, DWilliams) or had some injury risk associated with them (Westbrook, Brown). Besides, I never in my wildest dreams suspected that Andre Johnson would be there at 1.10. Had I not drafted him, I would have gone LT and then the drafting of Pierre as a #2 back would have been splendid. Of course, that would have left me without a top wideout.

At QB I waited too long but ended up getting Cutler right where he should have been drafted. I followed that up by drafting Orton a round later when I should have selected Henry. Vick is a total wild card who will only become interesting if McNabb goes down. He was the ultimate boom-bust pick so late in the draft so I had to take the chance. QB Grade: C

My running backs are a little thin with Marshawn being out for the first 3 weeks of the season. Both Thomas and Moreno are going to have produce big coming out of the box if I want to hang with the other teams in the league. After those 3, I really don't have much depth in a PPR format. RB Grade: B-

Once AJ was there, my fate was sealed for this draft. I think my top 4 receivers (AJ, Housh, Bryant, Breaston) are every bit as strong as any other team in the league, assuming Bryant regains his 2008 form. I missed badly when I drafted my back-up QB before securing Chris Henry, who could be a beast this year. I drafted Meachem a bit early but he might be ready to take the next step in the Saints high octane offense. WR Grade: A-

I love Olsen and he was the only pick that drew a compliment. Celek was a mistake (see below) and Heap used to be one of the highly coveted TE's in the league. Now, not so much. TE Grade: B-

My kickers, well they're kickers. I screwed up a little by selecting one (Kaeding) who has one of the early byes. I will have to rely on Vinatieri to cover my ### in Week 5. K Grade: Incomplete

My defense was chosen a bit early and I got one of the best ones in the Baltimore Ravens. They're always good for turnovers and a few TD's, I just hope they come in the first few weeks of the season. The Falcons were necessary to have more than defense but I am not expecting much contribution from them. D Grade: B+

My strategy was this...

In the early rounds, avoid taking players who are on early byes in Weeks 4 and 5. With the exception of Thomas in Round 2, I was able to accomplish this. Fortunately, the drafting of Lynch will cover Thomas' bye. After that, I tried to just go best player available and that includes Vick. I wish I was paying attention to the pre-season games a little more or I wouldn't have grabbed Celek after he got injured. Major faux pas. Other than that, I think this roster has the potential to do some damage if everyone performs up to their abilities.

Is there some way to cut and paste from DD? My list is correct for the most part but not totally. If someone with a totally correct one could post team strengths that would be cool. Otherwise I will try to figure something out.

I'm extremely happy with my team overall. Mapped out my strategy using DD for each round ahead of time balanced with my own average of Projections. I ended up with the positional balance I desired and was able to keep my overall strategy in tact for all but two rounds.

According to the Rate my Team Feature, I will end up with a 70% chance of doing well by all 4 of the possible Staff Projectors [Dodds, Henry, Tremblay and Wood].

If you assess Jason's team with the other Staff Projects here is how he ends up ...

Dodds Henry Tremblay Wood

If you assess Maurile's team with the other Staff Projects here is how he ends up ...

So really this is not an outsiders take but the draft dominators take? Because looking at the top teams that you mentioned wouldn't be the ones I would pick. You?

thanks. not a snowballs chance in hell I end up with that good of a record though. Anything in the top 4 would make me a happy man. When I looked through thr teams I saw only a couple of teams that I thought had little chance of surviving. I do find it interesting that the 2 staffers are predicted to not survive according to DD. This is why we play the games I suppose. I would guess the difference between the team predicted to survive with 32 wins and the next 3 teams (and maybe more) is but a scant few points.

Brutal draft for me. Just unfocused and no real plan at all. I was hoping for another top 5 finish in this thing, but I have a long road ahead. Off the top of my head, I liked what MT, Klecker and Lehigh did in particular.

Pretty surprised since my top RB's (LJ, SWP, DMac somewhat, etc) and QB's (Palmer & Garrard) blew for week 1.None of them even made it into the top 25 in scoring at their positions, I'll take the wins though.Going Moss and Wayne in the first two rounds is what saved me I guess.

I was hoping for a last second TD pass from Rivers in the late game but sproles ran it in for the win. Depending on yardage would have moved me up to at least 3rd if not 2nd. Still 4th is respectable.

I found something interesting looking through last week:

Which team would you rather have?

Team A or Team B

Team A

Hasselbeck, Matt SEA QB

Bush, Michael OAK RB

Norwood, Jerious ATL RB

Driver, Donald GBP WR

Gage, Justin TEN WR

Ward, Hines PIT WR

Carlson, John SEA Te

Tynes, Lawrence NYG PK

Texans, Houston HOU Def

Team B

Schaub, Matt HOU QB

Johnson, Chris TEN RB

Portis, Clinton WAS RB

Henry, Chris CIN WR

Marshall, Brandon DEN WR

Owens, Terrell BUF WR

Shockey, Jeremy NOS TE

Kasay, John CAR PK

Dolphins, Miami MIA Def

I hate it when my team is the example of massive under achievement.
Didnt mean for it to be taken that way. You still didnt have a horrible week. My guess is you end up back in the mix for top 4 before all this is said and done. :lmao: I WISH I had the depth you have on your team. Im glad this thing is only 5 weeks long because my team (especially rb) has little depth to survive injuries.

I wasn't offended. I do think that my roster is certainly better than they showed week 1. With 20% of the season gone, they better play better this week!

:goodposting: and just like that it happened. Nice week there deep guy.

Ok, guess that scoring is off then... whew.
It is off but you are in pretty bad shape this week. Sitting 3rd worst with a shot of ending up 2nd worst. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. For anybody who doesn't know, the standalone download program at MFL is keeping accurate live scoring, unlike the website itself which is all screwed up.

I edited the above post adding a number next to each name (I did NOT edit the totals to reflect Monday night). That number represents the unofficial rank for week 2 after Monday night football. The big mover on Monday night was FFjunk. Some of these scores are extremely tight <1 point in several instances.

90 points in two players....from the SAME game.On to week 3!

those of us in 2-4th spot who see little hope of you dropping out of the top 4 say: Keep it up big guy. :D a couple of other thoughtsI am really surprised at the distance between teams 4 and 5 after 2 weeks. I think this will change but those below the top 4 REALLY need a good week this week to get back into contention. I think at least a couple of them will.I know my team will probably fade some week 5 for sure and maybe before. The interesting team to me here is Hoser, Who will probably need another very good week in #3 because he has some SERIOUS Bye week issues weeks 4 and 5.Good luck everybody. :)

This league is almost the direct opposite of League 1. We have our .500 team at position 8. 9-12 well behind and already out of it. 1-8 a battle. Your league is a battle for the best team to miss the next round.
