Fred Jackson status for week 1 (suffered wrist injury in preseason) (1 Viewer)

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson was carted off the practice field today with a thumb injury. Read that again.Did his thumb fall of?
Adam_Schefter :Lemme rephrase on Fred Jackson thumb injury. He was escorted off, not carted off, in obvious pain.

So he couldn't have just walked off the field? How does a thumb injury hinder your ability to walk?

Carts for thumb injuries?

Was it stuck somewhere leaving him unable to walk? Or is their training room that far from the practice field?

why are some upset that he rode in a cart to the training room....to me it doesn't matter what you hurt.....if you get injured there is nothing wrong with getting a lift to the training room.....we know what carted off usually means during a game, but in practice it means very little.....sometimes it is a long way back......bfd

Hope he's alright. Today is my keeper deadline and I have to decide if I still want to protect him at a cost of a 14th Rd pick. His ADP was in the 9-10 range before the inj.

Jackson's status is uncertain as the player was having tests after being hurt during a team drill near the end of the two-hour practice.

The injury is potentially troublesome because Jackson is slated as the team's starter while Marshawn Lynch serves a three-game NFL suspension to open the regular season.

The Bills added insurance this off-season by signing eight-year NFL veteran Dominic Rhodes in free agency. He's followed on the depth chart by Xavier Omon, who had brief playing time as a rookie last year.

Jackson was hurt during a running play, when he took a pitch to the left. He was hit as he burst through the line of scrimmage, fumbled the ball and fell to the ground in pain.

With several teammates and trainers looking on, Jackson eventually got up and was holding out his left hand while being escorted to the training facility. Jackson's hand already was heavily taped around the wrist and thumb.

Jauron said Jackson was hit in the same spot - just above the thumb - where he had been previously injured.

It's not clear when Jackson was initially hurt, but he was bothered by the injury when he lost a fumble in a 31-21 loss at Green Bay last weekend.

:D the first usefull post in this thread. Who is the 3rd string guy?

Omon is brutal.....if this is a serious injury the Bills should go sign Dunn, he and Rhodes should be able to hold down the fort until Lynch gets back.

Here's the latest from Rotoworld:

Fred Jackson: Jauron: Fred Jackson's injury to wrist area

Fred Jackson - RB - BUF - Aug. 25 - 9:44 pm et

Bills coach **** Jauron clarified the "thumb" injury Fred Jackson suffered in practice Tuesday, revealing that it extends into Jackson's wrist.

Jauron says Jackson has pain between his left thumb and wrist after hurting it on a pitch play in 11-on-11 drills. The area was "heavily wrapped," and hopefully more will be known shortly. A serious wrist injury would definitely put Jackson's Week 1 status in doubt. He's slated to start Weeks 1-3. Aug. 25 - 9:44 pm et

I read a blurb yesterday that Jauron thought they might x-ray it but I have yet to see those results or if they did. I've seen a few drafts where people grabbed Lynch around the 4th or 5th round and followed it with Jackson in the 8th/9th. Not a bad strategy for possible RB1 production in PPR leagues. I was using that strategy in a draft I am in now and was getting ready to take Jackson in the 8th before I read about the injury. I let him go and someone picked him up soon after. However, I am now leery of Jackson with this injury. I believe his left hand is his preferred ball carrying hand and ball control will be the issue. The better move may be to target Rhodes in the 11th or 12th round but I am unclear on how involved Omom would be. Anyone hearing anything on Omom in Training Camp?

Latest news from rotoworld.com

X-rays on Fred Jackson's thumb were negative, and he will reportedly be ready for the season opener.

This is the best-case scenario for Buffalo. It was feared that Jackson had a serious wrist injury, but X-rays showed just a deep bone and ligament bruise. Jackson remains the likely Week 1 starter, with Dominic Rhodes staying in the backup role. Aug. 26 - 10:26 am et

I still think Rhodes is a great pick up for the first 3 weeks of the season.

Whew. Why do you think Rhodes is still a good pickup?

just because his hand isnt broken doesnt mean that he is going to be 100%. Rotoworld also talked about how Jackson likes to carry the ball with his left hand (injured hand). At first it was a thumb, but the pain went down to his wrist, and this is why they gave him an x ray. I had Rhodes last year playing for me in the playoffs and he is more than capable of handling 20-25 carries a game. With Lynch out, and Jackson hurt, Rhodes should step in against the Pats.

Soccer players everywhere are giving you the :lmao:

based on his injury, and his game last year against the Pats, what the general consensus on him right now? Legit RB2 for week 1? Or still a bench player?

I don't own Jackson in any league, but couldn't the mods change the title of this thread? It's misleading as hell.
