I admit, I know nothing about him. I'm a defender short this weekend (Championship game), and this is favorable:

100% snap count

Raiders giving most points to safeties (regardless of time frame)

He's been solid and consistent over the past four games:

Can any Charger fans or locals shed light on him?

thanks

The Chargers' move of Johnny Patrick to injured reserve, announced Monday night, could benefit at least two other defensive backs.

Marcus Gilchrist played well for Patrick (ankle) as the slot cornerback in Thursday's upset of the Broncos, and rookie Jahleel Addae had a solid performance at strong safety. The two figure to start against the Raiders on Sunday.

Rookie defensive back Marcus Cromartie, meantime, was signed off the practice squad.

It wasn't surprising that Gilchrist looked comfortable at slot cornerback against the Broncos. The slot was his position as a rookie in 2011 and last year. Last spring, the Chargers moved him to strong safety. He played safety in all 13 games this year before starting for Patrick against Denver.

Addae is an active, physical player whose energy drew strong praise from Mike McCoy in the preseason. His inexperience has shown at times, but the undrafted rookie has shown improvement, too. With Gilchrist in the slot, Addae can see more duty next to Eric Weddle.

Also, strong safety Brandon Taylor's chances of playing may improve with Patrick out.

12/17 SB Nation

Secondary: B plusCB Shareece Wright followed up his decent performance against the Giants with a strong performance against Denver's WRs. Wright finished with 2 passes defensed, didn't give up any big plays, was solid tackling, and was better at finding the football in coverage than he's been all season. On the opposite side, CB Richard Marshall had an early mistake, allowing WR Andre Caldwell an TD on a post corner route, instead of trusting his safety help. Otherwise, his tackling was solid throughout the game. CB Marcus Gilchrist, taking over the nickel CB position, was terrific. Gilchrist posted a sack, a pass defensed on a blitz, and very good in run support.

SS Jahleel Addae was generally solid during the game, especially in run support. He did struggle a bit against TE Julius Thomas, and was also late recognizing the WR screen pass which turned into a TD for Caldwell. FS Eric Weddle was very good again helping to prevent big plays over the top, and had a sensational pass defense on a blitz. As a whole, the DBs were very good at limiting the damage after the catch, which is probably the most crucial element of the Broncos passing game.

I am scrounging for a corner as well after losing Honey Badger. Although he is now the slot corner and not strong safety he is still in a good situation. He's a sure tackler playing every down. McGloin threw 4 int's last week. Patrick had 1.5 sacks in the slot role earlier this season and Gilchrist managed to sack Peyton last week.
