Jadeveon Clowney DE South Carolina (2 Viewers)

Glazer's got it.  Contingent of physicalS (not must him involved).

Meant to quote Gabes "To Seattle" post.
Yeah my bad, I couldn’t find the tweet on who had it first. I saw the original tweet saying pending physical but all I could find after was Schefter talking about it

Rotoworld:

Seahawks acquired DE Jadeveon Clowney from the Texans.

The Houston Chronicle, which has been all over the story, reports the Seahawks are sending a third-round pick and "two players" the Texans' way. The Texans had been expected to acquire an offensive lineman or two, but The Athletic reports both players are linebackers. It's a massive admission of defeat from the Texans after they had been zeroed in on Dolphins LT Laremy Tunsil. As for the Seahawks, it's a coup for a defensive line that desperately needed one. Pete Carroll's front seven will now have a little juice as it waits for DT Jarran Reed to return from his six-game suspension.

That seems pretty cheap.  What am I missing here?
Clowney was going to sit the year if they didn’t trade him. This way they get a 3rd (what they were going to get anyway by way of compensatory formula) plus players. He told them to sign him long term to a contract he wanted or they would have to trade him. They made out as well as they could

Also this situation is very different than Khalil Mack (before anyone goes there). Mack was on his 5th year option and thus, the team had leverage in that whatever team traded for Mack would be able to sign him long term. The Seahawks have no such advantage. They could lose Clowney  next year and get nothing but a compensatory pick back a year later. Trading for Clowney after the franchise deadline carried a lot of risk and the price the Texans got reflects that

Clowney for a 3rd, Jacob Martin and Barkevious Mingo.

Now I just have to sweat it out until the physicals are done...hopefully BOB won't press the reset button after the talking heads say how fleeced he got.

That seems pretty cheap.  What am I missing here?
It's not what you're missing, it's that Houston is missing a GM.

Houston has the 2nd most available cap space right now and the 2nd most available for next year right now. JJ Watt has dealt with a lot of injuries the last few years. Not paying Clowney and trading him for so little seems crazy IMO.

Only time will tell as Clowney has had health issues of his own and hasn't really put up upper elite stats, but man...

So whats this mean for the Seahawk Defense?  Are they a legit top defense?  Sorry out of they loop from their dominant years

Jadeveon Clowney was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 10.

Clowney was a one-man wrecking crew against the 49ers Monday night, whipping OTs Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey to get to Jimmy Garoppolo for five QB hits, one sack, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery touchdown. Clowney's raw sack numbers haven't been there this season, but he's in elite company in terms of total pressures. Disruption is production.

Seahawks DE Jadeveon Clowney is dealing with a core muscle injury and could eventually require surgery.

For now, Clowney is going to try to get back on the field this season. He is expected to get in a limited practice on Friday. "Not as this moment I don’t, which is a good thing," was Clowney's response when asked if he needs an operation. Clowney's ever-tenuous health has once again become an issue following a truly dominant Week 11 performance. His Week 13 status remains uncertain after he missed last Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Jadeveon Clowney (core) is doubtful for the Seahawks' Week 16 matchup against the Cardinals.

Clowney's absence would be great news for Kyler Murray and company. Overall, PFF has graded him as the league's No. 7 edge defender among 119 qualified players. Murray and Kenyan Drake managed to consistently move the ball downfield on the Browns in Week 15 largely thanks to their offensive line's ability to keep Murray upright.

Coach Pete Carroll said impending free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney informed GM John Schneider that "he loves it here" and would like to re-sign with the Seahawks.

Carroll always paints a rosy picture, but we have no reason to not believe him, as Clowney apparently went to Schneider's office Monday and told him how much he loved his first season in Seattle. Clowney's sack numbers weren't there with just three on the year, but he played through a core-muscle injury that will require surgery next week, and still generated a ton of pressure off the edge while maintaining high-end run defense. Seattle will surely want to try and bring Clowney back after trading for him last summer.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Giants and Colts are "among teams that could potentially have some interest" in DL Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney himself reportedly said, "After spending the last year in Seattle and seeing how they do things, I would definitely like to return. However, I'm also open to new opportunities if it comes down to that." It doesn't sound like there's much concrete evidence here that talks have gone anywhere between Clowney and anybody. Clowney has battled some injuries throughout his career, but finished 2019 as PFF's No. 10 overall edge defender.

USA Today's Art Stapleton reports the Giants "are involved in pursuit of DE Jadeveon Clowney."

The Giants have been previously connected to Clowney throughout the offseason. The only issue throughout Clowney's six-year career has been his ability to stay healthy, as he's played in 75-of-90 games since entering the league in 2014. To be fair, Clowney has played in at least 13 games in five consecutive seasons. He's never tallied double-digit sacks in a season, but remains a disruptive force against the pass and run alike, regularly drawing double teams at an elite level. Clowney would be a major boost to the Giants or any other defense.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports free agent Jadeveon Clowney "hasn't found the market he expected."

Garafolo also suggests that the Seahawks' current offer "could" end up being his best one. The Giants and Colts have both been linked to Clowney, but they've since acquired edge rushers and are now less likely to give Clowney the mega deal he's looking for coming off an injury-plagued 2019 season. Clowney has previously told Seahawks GM John Schneider that he "loves" playing in Seattle and is open to re-signing. That just may be what happens.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports free agent Jadeveon Clowney "wants about $20 million per year."

"Teams aren't coming up that high as of now," added Russini. His market has been insanely quiet, and it appears Clowney could be overshooting his price. The Giants and Colts were previously linked to the 27-year-old, but the Colts moved on to DeForest Buckner via trade. The Giants could still use some edge-rush help, while Seattle may also be in the mix. He doesn't sound close to signing.

The Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson reports the Cowboys are not among the teams looking at potentially adding free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

Clowney is reportedly asking for something in the range of $20 million per year, likely pricing himself out of a partnership with the Cowboys. It's been eerily quiet in regards to rumors around his potential 2020 destination. Only the Colts and Giants have seemingly been seriously linked to Clowney, and the former team went ahead and scooped up DeForest Buckner in a trade instead. This situation doesn't appear particularly close to coming to an end.

https://thejetpress.com/2020/03/20/ny-jets-jadeveon-clowney-weighing-offer-gang-green-free-agency/

Pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is reportedly weighing an offer from the NY Jets in free agency. Here are all the details and what it all means.

The NY Jets have experienced an overall quiet free agency period highlighted by some under the radar signings.

Late this week Gang Green has decided to change their tactics and opt for more of a splash. On Thursday the team had inquired about Jacksonville Jaguars pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

Now we have learned the team has also made a contract offer to free-agent sack specialist Jadeveon Clowney, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.

“The three-time Pro Bowl edge rusher has been weighing offers from multiple teams, believed to include the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans, in addition to the Seahawks,” per Gregg Bell of The News Tribune.

When Clowney entered free agency he had hopes of landing a big-time contract that paid him north of $20 million annually on a long-term deal. Obviously a few days into free agency, he hasn’t received the offers he was hoping for.

Per Bell’s reporting, Jadeveon’s troubling medical history has given teams pause.

In his six NFL seasons, he has only started an entire 16 game season once. Last season with the Seahawks, Clowney was forced to miss three of the final five regular-season games due to a sports hernia.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports the Seahawks are offering free agent Jadeveon Clowney $18.5 million annually.

Clowney is hoping to get closer to $20 million per year on the free-agent market. The Giants, Colts, and Cowboys have all been linked to Clowney, but none have been willing to meet his demands. It's possible Clowney settles for a prove-it deal after a down and injury-shortened 2019. Re-signing with Seattle on a short-term deal would give Clowney his best chance at rehabbing his value.

The Seattle Times reports there's a "growing thought around the league" that free agent Jadeveon Clowney could wait until training camp to sign.

Clowney hasn’t come close to the $20 million AAV he's looking for in free agency. The latest reports have Seattle offering something in the $13-15 million per year range — far below his asking price. Coming off a down season with a lengthy injury history, it's not surprising Clowney hasn't had much outside interest to this point. Even if he waits out the market, Clowney looks headed for a one-year, prove-it deal.

Titans GM Jon Robinson said he's been in contact with free agent Jadeveon Clowney's agents.

Despite re-signing Ryan Tannehill and tagging Derrick Henry, the Titans are still top-10 in available cap space.  They also have a need after releasing Cameron Wake earlier in the offseason.  Built on running the ball and playing defense, fortifying their edge presence on the defensive side makes a lot of sense.  Harold Landry is a fine player, but he's not a dominant force off the end.  Clowney is disruptive in the pass-rush department and also plays extremely well against the run.  Clowney is said to be willing to wait this thing out until he gets the money he's looking for, which is believed to be roughly $20 million per year.

I wonder if the developing issue of CV over the last few weeks is impacting the remaining bigger ticket FAs from the standpoint of teams not knowing if a season will be played this year or not. And the question of how that works for the players salary coming into play...

I would imagine all contracts will be tolled one year if there is no 2020 season - of course for an older player that contract could end up looking a lot worse down the road.

ESPN's Turron Davenport and Brady Henderson report free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney is now seeking $17-18 million annually.

Clowney entered free agency with his eyes on $20 million annually, but teams haven't been willing to meet him at that price which has left him without a team weeks later. The Seahawks and Titans have been interested in reaching a long-term deal with the pass rusher, just not at that price point. Clowney will likely have to either sign a long-term deal in the $15-17 million range or chase a one-year deal to get back on the market next offseason. The star quarterback chaser just turned 27 years old and is by far the best non-quarterback left in free agency.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent Jadeveon Clowney is "more than willing to wait" to sign.

Clowney is drawing interest from the Titans and Jets, but with the rest of the elite tier of free agency thinned out, he no longer needs to be in a rush to sign. Clowney can now wait teams out instead of vice versa, though he will have less leverage after some potentially interested squads make additions via the draft. With the coronavirus pandemic raging, it might be months before teams could get Clowney into their facility for a physical. That, in addition to the money, figures to be a hangup.

ESPN 710 Seattle's John Clayton reports the Jets are considering making a run at free agent Jadeveon Clowney.

Clayton also acknowledges the Titans' interest and believes the Seahawks "still have a chance to get him back." Clowney has been the odd man out of this year's coronavirus-affected market. It's possible teams are leery of committing so much money to him without being able to conduct their own in-house physical. There has been chatter that Clowney could decide to wait several months to sign, and that might make sense in this most unusual of situations.
