Marvin Jones (1 Viewer)

I was already contemplating whether to sit him. I see a really disorganized and predictable offense with a QB struggling on the deep ball (Marvin's calling card). Throw on top the emergence of Golliday and an ankle injury and I'm going to bench him for Ekeler or Crabtree.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "there's optimism" Marvin Jones (questionable, ankle) plays in Sunday night's game with the Patriots.

Jones was a late addition to the injury report, getting in a limited practice Friday. He'll be monitored throughout the day, but it sounds like the Lions are expecting him to play. Jones was getting outsnapped by Kenny Golladay before going down and could see his role scaled back at less than 100 percent. He can't be trusted in Week 3 lineups.

Marvin Jones - WR -  Lions

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Marvin Jones (knee) is day to day with a bone bruise.

An MRI revealed that Jones' ACL and MCL are undamaged. With the Lions facing a quick Week 12 turnaround for their annual Thanksgiving game, it would not be surprising to see Jones held out against the Panthers in Week 11. His status will be updated no later than Wednesday.

Day-to-day is actually not a terrible sign for a bone bruise. We'll see how this fares in practice. Also wonder, if it turns out Jones isn't ready to go this weekend, what this means for Golladay -- make it harder to get open as He'll draw the most vigorous coverage? Is it better given that he becomes the de facto #1 option? Something in between?

Lions placed WR Marvin Jones on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported four days ago that Jones had a "chance" to return in Week 13 but instead the Lions are ending his season. Jones had already missed Weeks 11 and 12. In the third year of a five-year deal, Jones was having an inconsistent campaign in the Lions' once-crowded receiver corps. His 56 yards per game were down 13 from 2017. Jones' loss coupled with Golden Tate's trade leaves the Lions embarrassingly thin at wide receiver behind Kenny Golladay. Expect some #BruceEllingtonSZN down the stretch. Golladay, meanwhile, will find himself on the WR1/2 borderline. Going on 29, Jones should be back at his $6.5 million salary for 2019, though coach Matt Patricia fancies himself a ground-and-pound maestro.

Marvin Jones (knee) has been limited to side work at OTAs.

Jones had cleanup surgery after missing the final seven games with a bone bruise in his knee last season. He was expected to be full-go for OTAs, but the Lions are moving him slowly. Jones should be fine for training camp barring any setbacks.

Marvin Jones (knee) missed the entire offseason program.

Jones got in some side work at OTAs but wasn't cleared to practice. He looks on track for training camp, but his status can't be taken for granted. With Kenny Golladay taking over the No. 1 role and the additions of Danny Amendola and T.J. Hockenson, Jones's target share is likely going to take a hit.

Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett suggests Marvin Jones' future with the Lions "doesn't seem long."

Birkett adds that he personally can't imagine the Lions moving on from Jones, but admits the 29-year-old's future with the team seems murky considering coach Matt Patricia moved on from other notable players who didn't agree with his coaching style, in particular Golden Tate. Jones is due an extremely reasonable $13 million over the next two seasons, so Detroit would be outright foolish to send him packing. Even so, a slow start to the year could signal the end of Jones' tenure with the team.

That is really a very speculative viewpoint and based solely on a single tweet.  I have heard nothing from anyone around the team to suggest that Marvin has any issue with the staff.  Assuming he gets his knee back in order, he's going to be a big part of the game plan for the foreseeable future IMO.

Agree, I thought the main reason they moved on from Tate was he had an expiring contract and they weren't planning on bringing him back at his presumed cost.

Not only that, the opinion that Faust posted was not based on the writer's actual opinion. If you click the link the author says that the Loins would be fools to move on from Jones considering what he costs versus what he will produce on the field.

Marvin Jones corralled 10-of-13 targets for 94 yards and four touchdowns (not a mistype) in Detroit's Week 7 loss to the Vikings.

Jones, who had totaled four touchdowns in his last 11 games coming into this one, joined Jerry Rice and Sterling Sharpe as just the third player in NFL history to spike four scores in two separate contests. He last did so in Week 8 of the 2013 season against the Jets. Matthew Stafford leaned on the low-and-hard fade route on three of Jones' four touchdowns as the 29-year-old took turns bullying all of Trae Waynes, Xavier Rhodes and Mike Hughes for at least one score apiece. Even so, he's still eclipsed the 100-yard mark only once this season. Now averaging seven looks per game, Jones will remain a borderline WR2/3 in another spectacular matchup against the Giants' swiss cheese secondary in Week 8.

Marvin Jones caught 4-of-5 targets for 22 yards in the Lions' Week 8 win over the Giants.

Jones giveth, and Jones taketh away. One week after visiting the end zone four times, Jones drew only five looks, watching as role player Marvin Hall vultured a 49-yard score. Kenny Golladay also notched a 41-yarder on a flea flicker. Last week was very much the exception to Jones' 2019 rule. He is a borderline WR3. The Raiders are another plus Week 9 matchup.

Marvin Jones caught 8-of-10 targets for 126 yards and one touchdown in the Lions' Week 9 loss to the Raiders.

Jones did what he was supposed to do in an easy matchup -- go off. Jones led the team in receptions and targets in a game Matthew Stafford dropped back 41 times. The Lions passing attack has really taken off with Kerryon Johnson on injured reserve, and Stafford is quietly having a career season (on pace for 4,998 yards and 38 touchdowns). Jones will be an upside WR3 against the Bears next week now that he's on pace for an 84-1,070-12 receiving line.

Marvin Jones caught 4-of-5 targets for 43 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions' Week 11 loss to the Cowboys.

Jones, Kenny Golladay and Danny Amendola each had five targets. Jones wound up receiving the more fantasy-friendly looks, but he also deserves credit in his own right for displaying some after-the-catch goodness on his 25-yard touchdown. The question is how consistently can Jeff Driskel enable multiple high-end fantasy WRs, as Golladay (1-34-0) didn’t come close to producing his usual numbers on Sunday. Treat Jones as more of a low-end WR2/high-end WR3 ahead of next week’s matchup against the Redskins if Matthew Stafford remains sidelined.

Marvin Jones caught 5-of-11 for 46 yards in Detroit's Week 12 loss to Washington.

Kenny Golladay (4/61) had previously out-targeted Marvin Jones 14 to 10 from Jeff Driskel prior to Sunday. Jones' 11 looks against Washington were surprisingly seven more than the next closest receiver. He also managed to lead the Lions in air yards (162) as their primary downfield threat away from Quinton Dunbar. With all bye weeks now out of the way, Jones should be treated as a score-dependent WR2 capable of exploding if game script without Matthew Stafford (back) for the foreseeable future ever permits. Expect Golladay to be ranked higher than Jones against the Bears on Thanksgiving Day.

Marvin Jones corralled three passes for 38 yards on seven targets Sunday in the Lions’ Week 14 loss to the Vikings.

With in-over-his-head quarterback David Blough in complete free-fall, Jones never stood a chance in this one. Jones didn't help his case by committing an ugly drop, the third miscue charged to him this year. It didn't happen for him Sunday but Jones is still among the league leaders in touchdowns with nine and could conceivably reach 1,000 yards receiving, though he'd have to really ball out over his final three games (he needs 221 yards in that span) for that to happen. Blough's presence undoubtedly lowers Jones' ceiling, though an inviting matchup against Tampa Bay's non-existent secondary in Week 15 could be just what the doctor ordered.

Lions placed WR Marvin Jones on injured reserve with an ankle injury, ending his season.

It will be the second straight season 29-year-old Jones has finished on injured reserve after a knee issue limited him to nine appearances in 2018. Jones was in the midst of an excellent campaign until Matthew Stafford's back landed him on the shelf, though he still had a few productive games with Jeff Driskel and David Blough under center. His nine receiving scores are currently tied for second in the league. Three months shy of his 30th birthday, Jones is signed for $6.5 million next season. He figures to be retained at that price in the final year of his deal.

ESPN's Michael Rothstein believes Marvin Jones "looks ready to go."

Jones was placed on injured reserve last December due to an ankle sprain, but he's looked the part early in training camp. Before things fell apart down the stretch with Matthew Stafford (back) sidelined, Jones was off to a terrific start, checking in as the WR11 overall through the first eight weeks. With Stafford also appearing healthy in camp, it's time to begin moving Jones up fantasy rankings. Jones offers more upside than the WR4s who are being drafted at similar average draft positions.

Marvin Jones caught 4-of-8 targets for 23 yards and touchdown in the Lions' Week 2 loss to the Packers.

Jones was the top receiver with Kenny Golladay (hamstring) missing for the second straight week. Golladay's expected to return in Week 3 against the fast-paced Cardinals, and that may actually be a good thing for Jones. He's faced top coverage in back-to-back contests, leading to inefficient targets with Matthew Stafford struggling to find a rhythm. When this offense is clicking, Jones has top-25 fantasy appeal. For now, Jones is best considered a high-upside WR3. Arizona's suspect defense could provide the launch pad this Lions offense needs.

What is the deal here...thought i was getting a solid #4 and 3 weeks in I keep seeing waiver wire guys continue to outperform him.  Thinking I may cut bait for Deebo who has stayed available or Lazard who seems to have a more consistent floor.

He is a solid #4, he's also a lot better when he's not facing top coverage. Golladay being back should help a bunch. The thing with Jones, is that he is pretty boom/bust, so he's actually been pretty decent so far, assuming those are his bustier numbers. His booms tend to be 100-2 or so. The Lions just work like that in general as Golladay is a much better version of the same idea.

I'd rather have Deebo than Jones, but I'd prefer Jones to Lazard personally.

Marvin Jones caught 1-of-2 targets for nine yards in the Lions' Week 4 loss to the Saints.

Jones drew a long defensive pass interference call to set up T.J. Hockenson's late one-yard touchdown one play later, but that doesn't do anything for us in the box score. Jones has yet to top 55 yards this season and is looking a bit over the hill at 30 years old. He's seen just five targets in the two games Kenny Golladay has been back, while Golladay has 15 targets in the same span. Jones gets the Week 5 bye ahead of Week 6 against the Jaguars where he'll be a decent WR4 option in a plus matchup.

Just an amazingly poor performance considering Golladay was back and he was facing a secondary w/o its top 2 corners. He's not toast but Stafford just isn't looking his way at all right now; drafted him 7.5 in a 12 teamer and I'm not sure he's worth a roster spot right now, much less if he's start-able.

Marvin Jones caught 3-of-7 targets for 39 yards and two touchdowns in Week 8 against the Colts.

Jones caught a pair of red-zone touchdowns, including a 25-yarder that gave Detroit an early lead. His seven targets tied Marvin Hall and were behind only T.J. Hockenson (10). Jones is starting to heat up after catching five passes for 80 yards last week. Jones will be a Week 9 flex play if Kenny Golladay (hip) misses time.

- Rotoworld
Of course after I drop him 2 weeks ago.

Marvin Jones caught 8-of-10 targets for 96 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' Week 10 win against Washington.

Jones led the team in targets with Kenny Golladay (hip) sidelined again. Matthew Stafford and the Lions pass catchers had their way with the usually-solid Washington secondary, as Jones caught a pretty first half touchdown near the corner of the end zone. Golladay's return to the Detroit lineup would make Jones a WR4 option next week against the Panthers. Golladay missing another game would keep Jones in the WR3 discussion.

BUSTS: MILES SANDERS COULD SINK YOUR WEEK 14

Excerpt:

Lions WR Marvin Jones vs Packers (-7.5)

Total: o/u 55 | 55% Started

On the field, the Lions continue to battle each week and were able to pull off a phenomenal comeback win last weekend, a victory that is even more impressive considering the number of players the team lost/sent to injured reserve over the last few weeks. One who remains out, and seems unlikely to return this season before hitting free agency this summer, is lead WR Kenny Golladay. The passing offense seemed broken earlier this season without Golladay in the lineup, but in the last six weeks Marvin Jones has emerged as a go-to force and must-start in fantasy lineups, turning 51 targets into 32 catches for 393 yards and five scores. Otherwise known as 16.9 fantasy points per game.

Those point totals are even more impressive when considering Jones has topped 52 receiving yards in just 2-of-6 games. The Lions are 9th in the NFL in Pass Percentage (62.3%) and likely will be forced to throw as 7.5 point underdogs. And while the Packers’ pass defense is considered league average according to defensive DVOA (18th), Jaire Alexander is certainly not “average.” With Jones as the clear top pass catching option on the outside, I expect Alexander to take on the responsibility for the individual matchup and ultimately win.

Prediction: 8 targets, 4 catches for 47 yards
