So David Freese is out up to 9-12 weeks after surgery on his broken hand. Huge blow to the team offensively. What are the odds that Allen Craig sees some time at 3rd when he gets back? Until then, I'm sure Tony LaRussa will have a full on love-fest with Daniel Descalso.

Anyone else concerned about Chris Carpenter? Not missing many bats. We can't win the division without him pitching like a front-line starter.

Man it seemed like there were a decent number of Cards fans here back in '06. Where'd they all go? Poor RNR. We care, buddy.

He's getting beat up like a pinata. Westbrook not inspiring much confidence either.Who knew that Jaime Garcia and Kyle McClellan would be the Cards aces this year, not Waino and Carp. Bizarre.

Amazingly, Garcia's ERA is still 3.28. He's been great this year, so I guess he was due for a stinker like tonight.

This just in: Jon Jay and Allen Craig can rake.

I wonder if they could get away with this line-up on a daily basis:

C- Molina

1B- Berkman

2B- Craig

SS- Theriot

3B- Pujols

LF- Holliday

CF- Rasmus

RF- Jay

The offense would be sick, they actually upgrade in OF defense, and all of those infielders are seeing significant time at those positions as is. Not like Schumaker is a defensive wizard anyway, and Descalso is best used as a reserve.

Pujols is not a 3B. And quite frankly, if he were to leave to seek his $30 million dollar, franchise-crippling contract, I wouldn't miss him.

I don't really dispute that. But is he really any worse at 3rd than Berkman is in right? Because I'll take the bat/glove combo of Jon Jay over the bat/glove combo of Descalso in the every day line-up.Also, I think he's cost himself a ton of money this season and may actually be more likely to return to St. Louis because of it, but that's a different discussion altogether.

Well, the Cards have been playing Craig at 2B, so LaRussa has done crazier things. But, everyone is still worried over Pujols throwing elbow and do we really want to risk disaster by having him make the long throws across the diamond? Plus, he's on the downslope of his career, so I don't think it's prudent to push him higher on the defensive spectrum at this point of his career.Berkman has surprised in the outfield by not being all that bad. But, how long are we tempting fate there? Berkman should be a 1B and maybe he'll get that chance next season with the Cards if Pujols leaves (which, I agree, is a different argument for a different day).Descalso has proven his worth as a utility guy and he should stay that way. Guy is cash money in the clutch. However, I'm not sure you can count on Jon Jay over the course of a 162 game season. He's proven to be good in spurts. He's a guy that probably needs a RH hitting platoon partner.
