He was setup to have a great year in Pittsburgh too.It really is precious that Cole has transformed into the best pitcher in all of baseball immediately after leaving the Pirates. It doesn’t even surprise me anymore.

They used to say that about Searage and the Pirates not that long ago. Morton had some success in Pittsburgh but injuries and lack of run support were problems. His velocity increase is very unusual though. I can't think of many cases where a SP picks up 5+ mph on his fastball in his early 30s.The Cole sudden dominance is one thing but the Morton complete dominance is the icing on the cake. Morton always had talent (unfulfilled in Pittsburgh of course) but he may very well end up as a front end stud by the end of this year. Houston acquires pitchers and they all immediately turn into elite aces.
Just wanted to bump my prediction -- seems to be coming true. Two weeks ago I was out with a bunch of buddies and we were are predicting losing seasons. I told them I thought the Pirates would come out hot but quickly cool off and finish slightly below .500 with 78 wins.
I was the most optimistic of my friends.
Still very early GB. Plenty of time for these frauds to pace themselves to a 100 loss season.Just wanted to bump my prediction -- seems to be coming true.
At least they won the nightcap and stopped the skid.
I fear you may be correctStill very early GB. Plenty of time for these frauds to pace themselves to a 100 loss season.
For me, the highlight of the season is that they're 6 games over .500 a quarter of the way through.Highlight of the season so far.
Hey welcome back GB! Hope you can stick around for a while. Good point about the all star. Maybe Meadows will get it?How's it going, Gents? Long time, no see. Fred's still doing the thread's heavy lifting.
Happy Independence Day!
40-45 record, on par with 2016 & 2017. Truly a model of consistent mediocrity.
Picking an All-Star from this squad will be rough. Maybe Dave Roberts will go with Colin Moran.
Nice five game sweep of Milwaukee.Last 44 games for the Bucs (14-30)----a 5.03 staff ERA.
Last 44 for Milwaukee (27-17)-----a 3.61 staff ERA.
Not sure who they were really going to sell at this point anyways and get a significant return. Might as well be buyers. Just don’t expect any type of impact player. If they can improve the bullpen I’ll be happyBuyers at the deadline now? Ugh.
All very true. They could use some bullpen help, another starter and some depth in the IF. My guess is they don't do much though.
As great as this stretch has been I am skeptical that Marte and Polanco can keep hitting at this pace. Also slightly concerned about Dickerson's hamstring
Wow this is quite a move for the Buccos. Hate to see Meadows go but at least they are trying to make some moves to win now.@TBTimes_Rays
BREAKING: Under deal being finalized, #Rays trade Archer to #Pirates for Glasnow, Meadows and a still being decided 3rd piece
I don’t know how the trade is going to ultimately turn out but it represents a shift in philosophy from ownership and management. That’s significant in my mind. Not the same old Buccos anymore.monessen said:Awesome statement by the Pirates!
Only possible complaint I can think of from Pirates fans is ‘where we’re these balls 3-4 years ago?’Love what they did
Lol i was actually thinking that.Only possible complaint I can think of from Pirates fans is ‘where we’re these balls 3-4 years ago?’
