****Official Nathan's Hotdog Eating Contest 2022**** (1 Viewer)

In this time of great peril, it's comforting to know there are still heroes in our midst. Joey freaking Chestnuts!

I watch this almost every year but it’s fairly disgusting and amazing that this is a thing.

But fascinating.

63 - Joey is slipping.

How is it that there’s nobody that ever comes close in the hotdog eating but can beat him eating other things?

Do these guys make a living off of this? Is Chestnut like an accountant outside of this or something?

Still blew everyone away but he even apologized for his low number this year. Said he'd be back next year. My son and I are flying up to it next year. Been planning to for years.

Joey got attacked onstage. Messed up his rhythm.
The video shows him at a 17 count when this happened.  Joey was at 40 at the 5 min mark.  He slowed down later.  Judging from the post game footage and interview, I think his foot was a factor and he didn't have his usual focus on the dogs.

What happened to his foot? Did look like he was limping.

Looking at places to stay for the contest next year. Anyone in the area have any good suggestions?
Not a Coney Island expert but I think adjacent / nearby would be a better move. We go a few times a year (Cyclone games, NY Aquarium, walk the boardwalk) and, while there has been development, overall it’s still sketch af. There’s a few NYCHA projects nearby and 4 subways terminate there - always a lot of friends who live on the street.

Stat in Brighton Beach or Sheepshead Bay, take the above ground subway train for 10 minutes. Or stay further away in a nicer, more interesting neighborhood 20-30 minutes away. There’s a weird, counterculture / get your freak on element to Coney Island that’s cool if that is your thing. More prevalent though is the seedy, lowlife criminal element you really don’t want to be around after sundown.

:2cents:

I was sad to hear that Totonno's Pizza on Neptune Ave. hasn't reopened since the pandemic.  My son and I had one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten when we stopped there before a Cyclones game.

Has anybody tried doing this on a lesser scale? Gotta admit I love the snap of a grilled Nathan’s. Give me some mustard and pickles and I’m good - for maybe 2. But this everything soaked in water #### sounds absolutely terrible. As does eating massive amounts.

I once ate 6 chilli dogs on the last day of college to get my name on a wall at Pixie Restaurant. My roomie and best friend ate ten bitty burgers (essentially White Castle slider size) for the same honor. The Wall of Fame (ignore the dude, look behind him.)

15 minutes to Joey time - big thunderbolt just clapped.

I looked at all the names, didn't see "Bobby Layne" up there. :missing:

torrential downpour

everybody waiting in the pool house like it's gonna pass quickly (looks bright/clear to the south & east)

they're on all four walls and all over the restaurant at different heights - this was going on like 50 years ago when my big sis was there

took me forever to find mine when I went back for homecoming a few years ago

2pm restart

(in case you're planning your day around this)

appreciate the downpour, cooled it way down here and cleared out the teenagers from the pool
