***Official*** Post Your 2017 Rookie Draft (1 Viewer)

I am hearing that Lynch kid is really good.  But, 2.03 might be a reach.
That was me taking Lynch, and while I agree, in my case I thought it was the best use of my resources.

I was in last year's championship game so I have a "win now" window and my only real weakness would be at RB2 where'd I'd be starting either TY Montgomery, Gillisllee or Ware (and all could be in RBBC).

My line-up will now be: Rivers / L. Bell / Lynch / Dez / Evans / AJ Green / Maclin (or Matthews) / Reed. So my line-up isn't ancient otherwise and I have some younger guys on the bench as well. I would have passed on Lynch if a few guys I liked fell but they all went right before my pick and I didn't really "love" anyone left.

In my only other rookie draft that has started, I passed on Lynch with picks 2.01, 2.05 and 2.06 (he went at 2.08) - so I agree in most cases he shouldn't be the pick there but I was willing to reach fully knowing he only has a year or two left. That Oakland o-line is crazy good and I think the year off will help him be fresher. If it backfires I can live with it.

Got a few going:

My picks in bold. I went in with 1.05, 2.01, 2.06, 2.12, and 3.05. I was hoping to get Njoku at 2.01 but missed, so I traded 2.06 and 2.12 for 2.02 to snag Engram. I'm slightly wary that Engram will get changed to a WR at some point, but I love his upside if he stays as a TE in MFL. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how I made out.

The thread is clearly titled "post links to your rookie draft".
Actually, it's titled "***Official*** Post Your 2017 Rookie Draft".

And I believe TheFanatic posted what he did because, due to the web filters, he's unable to open links.  Yeah, it's more of a pain for us to post the actual players but if it helps others...

I'm surprised to see the QBs lasting this long, given the apparent trade value of QBs in zealots leagues. Trubisky and Mahomes are still available with pick 24 now OTC, while the last 3 offensive players off the board are Jeremy McNichols (NFL pick 162), Chris Godwin (NFL pick 84), and D'Onta Foreman (NFL pick 89).

That's the flip side of it.  People are chicken to use early round picks on QBs - unless they're sure things.

I can never nail down QBs in Zealots. When someone is actually in need of a QB, they're usually going to get semi-fleeced by the rest of the league, but if someone isn't relatively desperate then QBs are almost worthless, it seems (probably because everyone has like 4-5). Watson was the first one off the board at 2.06, with Trubisky and Mahomes before the end of the 2nd in mine.

I would have taken Corey Colts over Dalvin Cook.

The 1.01 owner will regret this one.

Yep, very much so. I definitely did a "WTF" to myself when I saw that come through. The owner tried to move the pick, but didn't get much traction. Even then, I'd take the more obviously 1.01 pick (Fournette or maybe McCaffrey in this scoring type) and tried to trade for Cook after the fact.

Agreed.  If you can't deal it, take the top player, and work a deal after the pick has been taken.

Seems like the obvious shark move is to draft QBs, perhaps not super-early but in rds 2-3 (ahead of mid-round RBs & WRs). Then you can move them when another owner gets desperate, or if they become overrated like Bortles was after his 2nd season. With plenty of roster spots it doesn't hurt much to hang on to a young QB for a couple years, and with all these young QBs churning through your roster you're unlikely to ever desperately need to add a QB.

You'd think so, but at least in my Zealots league, everyone seems to be following this strategy on a roughly 3 year cycle such that no one ever really needs a QB. Super frustrating :D

Got a couple FBGs in this league, so don't know if it's been posted yet or not.

1.5- Christian McCaffrey2.5- traded to Broncos for 2018 2nd & 3rd2.10- Jarrad Davis3.5- traded it with a 2018 2nd & 3rd for Evan EngramI was prepared to take any of the top 5 at 1.5 & was pleasantly surprised CMc was there. I would have preferred Davis but I'll take it.When Howard went off the board I immediately began trying to trade up for Engram. I tried for nearly every pick between the 1.9 & 2.5, but nothing doing. I was SHOCKED when he made it all the way to the 2.4. Colts & I gave each other the run around for what seemed like a full day, but just couldn't come to an agreement. When he took Engram right in front of me I traded the 2.5 to the Broncos.I was glad to see Davis at 2.10. I think that was a solid LB pick there.Kept trying to get Engram from the Colts & we finally came to a deal.

Feelin' pretty good so far.

That's what I did.  I didn't get Cook, but I did take Fournette because I knew he would have the most immediate trade value.

OJ Howard at 3.01?

I play in leagues that are TE required and TEs get 1.5 ppr, so TEs are valued. However, in a league where TEs are not required, I can see why they go so late. I mean, what's the urgency on drafting a player that could take 3-5 years to produce relevant ff stats? And IF they become top 10, you're looking at 800ish yards and 6ish TDs. I can see why TEs aren't in demand.

Yeah I looked our league over, before this draft on 11 TEs were rostered in a 14-team league. 2 teams (myself and one other) have 6 of those 11...so there ya go.

Also meant to mention that this is a very mature league...I think this is year 18.

I used to play in a league like that back in the 90s......hard to believe leagues have not evolved to add a TE now a days.  We added it to our league sometime in the 2000s
Funny. 3 out of the 4 league I'm in don't require a TE and the reason is simple: one league has been going since 1995, and the other 2 have spawned from sub-groups of that original league. I find that most folks want to just play to have a good time and, especially if you're long time friends and coworkers, there isn't a big drive for change. We play for money and bragging rights and the competition is high every year, but we've been doing this so long I think it falls under the "can't teach an old dog new tricks" category. Very busy careers. Wives. Kids. Mortgages. All lead to "if it ain't broke...."

Do people that own Leveon seem to be reaching on Conner? Saw him go in the top 20 once and wondered if that was the Lev owner.  As a Lev Owner I'm worried I'll have to overdraft him by 2 rounds (2nd vs 4th).

if theyre not, they prolly should be, given the success the pitt backups have had in his absence

dunno about early mid 2nd but late 2nd seems like an easy choice if youre a bell owner

In the league where I own Bell, I have an early 2nd and don't pick again till 4.12.   If I can't trade into the third from either end, I would definitely consider Conner mid2nd depending on who else is left.

If he gives me what DeAngelo Williams did in Bell's absence the past couple seasons it woukd be worth the investment,

Got a couple FBGs in this league, so don't know if it's been posted yet or not.

Zealots dynasty PPR, 53 man roster, full IDP- http://www51.myfantasyleague.com/2017/options?L=32192&O=17

I'm the Giants & pretty happy so far.

Andy Dufresne posted the end down thread. Quoted the 1st 3 rounds above. Here's what I ended up with:

4.1- DeShone Kizer5.1- Wayne Gallman5.5- Derek Barnett6.5- Budda Baker

I really wanted Kizer & was surprised he fell so far. So I traded Rex Burkhead, Quincy Enunwa, & 4.5 for 4.1, 5.1, & 2018 5th. I can't tell who got the better end, I just know I wanted Kizer.

Happy to get Gallman & Barnett where I picked. A little disappointed that Chad Kelly went at 6.4 because I would have taken him at 6.5. Satisfied with Baker though.

All in all, I feel like I killed it. Hope it works out.

I drafted Conner at 2.10 in a ppr league even though I didn't own Bell. I want the backup RB on a great offense when Bell is 1 strike away from a lengthy suspension and has suffered several injuries in the past. Plus, you never know with Bell's contract next year. DeAngelo proved the backup RB in Pitt has huge value if he starts.

If you had to pick between Engram, Kamara, Conner, and Foreman, who would you take? (Non-PPR)

Waffling between Engram and Kamara, which would likely come down to lineup specifics and current roster, or to league history and how the trade value varies between positions.  In most of my leagues it would be Kamara because even mediocre RBs can often be dealt for high picks, while the value of successful TEs is lower.  Your mileage may vary.

I like the talent level and draft position of those two significantly ahead of Foreman and Conner, and though they are in currently crowded situations, I can see a clear path to longterm success.  I'm less convinced that, even if LeVeon walks next year, Pitt won't dra another RB for Conner to deal with.

Added:  in my specific case, assuming I can't deal down for Conner before making the pick, I still take Kamara based on adp, with an eye toward trying to deal him for "Conner and a future 2nd" to whomever takes Conner.  No need to reach when higher perceived value is available.

You could probably get Conner plus a future 1st.
