OFFICIAL WIS MMXIV: Back to the Future 4 Draft and In-Season Thread (1 Viewer)

Big series between my BANZAI!!!!! and the NL Central-leading Running Robots starting tomorrow morning. I'm 4 games back and it's a 4 game set, so this will probably determine who takes the division AND will go a long way to deciding the wild card.

Dyson doesn't even have 300 PAs yet.

It's on, rodg.
One of you two is going to be the WC ... seems everyone else is either eliminated or barely mathematically alive.

Nice little streak of your own there, Doug.

As hot as I have been, I still haven't caught you.
Haven't been able to shake you just yet ... still three games apart with a 4-game set coming up.
Pelicans had a chance to administer the kill shot after going up 2-0 in this series. Panik took the next two, though, so no ground was gained or lost in this series. Pelicans three games up with eight to play ... running into Ballad of Jackie Bradley Jr. and their nine-game win streak next.

We're both in good shape for at least a WC berth over Hoover, though. Hooever My Peacock is likely going to be something like a 90-something-win squad left out in the cold.

We'll see. If we meet again, it's advantage rodg as he took 3 of 4 from me in this series (even though we tied at 17-17 when you combine our runs).

After the 1/9 pm games, Running Robots is the first squad to clinch a playoff berth.

BANZAI!!!!! will clinch the NL wild card with their next victory.

I'm grateful to the other wild card contenders who have chosen to lose along with me these last couple games.

Already resting my studs.

Also, taking a first round talent in the third round because of injury track record isn't exactly the same thing as making the 1.1 pick. In fact, I felt more comfortable making that pick because of the health record of Cabrera and Santana
Well played.
Oh, I'm playing this draft like a fiddle. Don't you worry about that, GB.
Tre has a better shot of staying sober tonight than Reyes does of being first round talent these days.
Scorned New Yorkers aren't going to bring us down. Jose is strong, fast and a downright joy to be around.
Jose about to break the 700 PA threshold atop my lineup. Along with word of his .313 average, 110 runs scored and 48 steals, Jose wanted me to send his well wishes to all you haters. That's just the kind of guy he is.

PHEW. Took until the last game of the season to clinch. Team probably isn't good enough to make any noise, but glad to keep my playoff streak in BTTF at 4-4.

My team meh was aptly named. We ended up at .500. The starter pitchers went 14-14, 12-11, 12-14, 12-12 and 13-12. No presence whatsoever on the post-season awards page.

ETA: Congrats to everyone moving on but I'm just glad the season is over.

You can send over the royalties for the use of that team name any day now. Pretty sure i used it last season.

Well, I gave up the 3rd fewest runs and had the Cy Young winner (Felix) but scored the fewest runs and finished 80-82, I don't quite know why my offence was so bad, I guess too many low OBP guys

Played out as predicted.

Kinda weird how your squad drew even for the division at game 160, and then dropped game 162 tp allow me to back into the division title. Helluva battle.

Wasn't your quad something like 55-52 or something at one point, SoCal? Seem to remember your Ws and Ls both being in the 50s before your 50-game hot streak started.

for a guy so dominant offensively (M Trout), he struck out 212 times?
Play the season all over again, and maybe he only strikes out 160 times.

Plus, with 24 sim teams, the bottom 20% (or so) of the worst real-life MLB pitching is not represented in this sim. Trout's facing much better pitching than in real life.

nothing better than winning 102 and getting the 1 seed to play a 101 win team with Cueto, Zimmermann, Wainwright lined up.

DD gets 96 wins and loses division by 6 games, WC by 5.

i have home field and am gonna go hughes, vargas, bailey, gonzalez, hughes. i might be able to go 3 man, skipping vargas, but am not sure about bring those others back on short rest. at least i am rested.

I was 53-51 at one point. Went 48-10 over the last 40 percent of the season. No explanation for how, everything just clicked. It doesn't hurt having 3 studs going every 4 days. And Worley, my 4th starter ended up 12-5 with a 1.24 WHIP and a 3.82 ERA.At one point, at about the halfway mark, Cueto, Wainwright and Zimmermann were about .500 between them. They ended up 52-30. So maybe it was just those pitchers regressing to the mean, evening out in the second half.

EDIT: Went back and looked. On the day my streak started those 3 were 28-27. They went 30-3 the rest of the way, meaning the rest of my team went 18-7. Stud pitchers are a luxury, when they pan out.

As for the division, I had tons of fatigue. I ran 3 platoons and the better half of all three was tired. I sat 5 hitters and all 3 of my top starters once I clinched the wild card. I figured it was better to have everyone at 100 and not worry about the division. All four of the teams are going to be good, so just tried to be rested. Still ended up with a couple of tired relievers.

Funny stats:

I tend to use my starters for less pitches to maximize starts. My top 3 starters started a total of 113 out of 162 games.

For DrD. - Anthiny Rendon was my best hitter. .284/.354/.434, 21 HR, 93 RBI, 35 SB, 2 CS ;)

I don't venture into shark pool too often. plus, I like you guys better.

Am in a knockout pool. Still have Indy and GB left. Am the only one with GB left, so the only scenario for me to win it all ($1100) is for me to pick Indy, hope they and GB win, then pick GB in the superbowl.

Gotta go that way, right? I mean, even if I think GB has a much better chance of winning this weekend than Indy, you play for the big prize, right?

There are 8 people left. This was a 2 strike pool, two people have zero strikes, and they both have Sea, Ind, and NE left.

Yeah, given the situation for those two people with zero strikes and three teams available, it's time to push all-in.

Is 40 wins a record low in this thing? I feel like it is close.
Our very first sim -- remember the four leftover teams? And remember the "Patriot" League?

Holy ####! I won 109 games?!? This must have been back when I was married and this was all I had for happiness.

benching that scrub Brandon Crawford, who had 2 errors in game 1. replacing him with an even worse defender in Hanley Ramirez
