That is a very odd draft. Couple of things:

Tavon Austin at 6 in a PPR league is an absolute steal.

Murray before Allen is bizarre.

I don't understand why anyone would take Luke Wilson before Travis Kelce.

Lots of QBs going for a 12 team league.

Superflex league - my picks in bold. During the latter part of the draft, I traded Tyler Wilson to Soul Patrol for Christine Michael (I have Lynch and Turbin).

Latavius Murray at 1:12 ??? Wow
The owner who took him didn't draft again until 3.12 - so I would imagine that this is either a DMC owner or enamored with Murray, probably thinking Murray wouldn't be there at 3.12. That said, one would think that he would have tried to move down from that slot as the earliest I have seen Murray go is 2.08 (early 3rd seems ballpark).

Just curious, but what do you like about Bernard in a non-PPR league over Bell, Lacy or Ball? BTW, nice value w/Hunter at 2.1. Probably won't see that too often

I wrestled with it for a long time. It came down to talent AND opportunity.

After the NFL draft I thought for sure I'd take Lacy even with Franklin, but I still think the Pack are a pass first team so I shied away from the decreased opportunity.

Bell has really good opportunity but he just doesn't seem that talented.

It really came down to Ball vs. Gio and I just think that Gio will get more opportunity to use his talent. I don't think BJGE is very good.

I don't think any four of these guys are wrong to take with the #1.

I got Hunter at that spot after a bit of a gamble. I traded a #1 next year for the 1.9 not only to draft Eifert but to make sure that Allen, Hunter, and Wheaton would get pushed down one spot and almost guarantee me one of them at 2.1. I think I got lucky that it was Hunter.

I agree with that strategy of moving up to take a guy you might need thereby pushing down a tier of players to you at another spot. Good move. I've been on the fence with Bernard a little recently so it's interesting when he goes early in non-PPR. Thanks for the insight into your thinking.

The hit on rate on fifth rounders is something like 5%. Stacy has good short term opportunity, but he seems like a pretty average player. The type who could be swept aside by just about any free agent signing or draft pick a year from now. And that's if he beats out Pead and Richardson.

Foster has been a big success, but what percentage of free agent RB pickups work out that well? Most of them don't even make a team, let alone become starters.

The same applies to Morris. He was phenomenal last year. Doesn't change the fact that he's a total aberration. Here are sixth round RBs from the past ten drafts:

Alfred Morris

Cyrus Gray

Dan Herron

Terrance Ganaway

Evan Royster

Jordan Todman

Allen Bradford

Anthony Dixon

Deji Karim

Jonathan Dwyer

James Starks

Charles Scott

Cedric Peerman

Aaron Brown

James Davis

Bernard Scott

Thomas Brown

Jalen Parmele

Xavier Omon

Mike Hart

Thomas Clayton

Justise Hairston

Wali Lundy

Cedric Houston

DeAndra Cobb

Brock Forsey

That's a whole lot of crap there. So yea, once in a blue moon you will find a guy like Morris or Foster on the scrap heap, but the odds definitely don't justify spending a high pick on a late round or UDFA back. These are the kind of guys that you should grab on the cheap hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.
I can appreciate that the raw hit rate is low, but this ignores all of the other inputs we have data on. Such as Rams backfield seeming wide open and Stacy having an elite agility score. When you look at his physical measurables http://mockdraftable.com/player/4246/ Doug Martin is the closest comparable recently. I can understand the cards being stacked against Stacy, but do you really think the chance of him winning the starting job is only 5%? Depending on your scoring settings and roster sizes, I could see a 15%-20% chance of winning the starting job being worth a 2nd rounder.
What odds would you have given Isaiah Pead (a 2nd round pick)? He was pretty much anointed the next lead back in St Louis last year. Now he'll be lucky to see the field and everyone has completely forgotten about him. Fantasy owners should focus on landing starters for teir teams in the early rounds of rookie drafts not Huge Boom Bust players. In fact, I recommend all dynasty leagues implement a system where they HAVE TO sign players to a contracts, where drafted players are assigned years. Then you place a max cap for all your contracts ... Say 100 years. Let owners draft high risk players in the early rounds and sign them to long contracts. Sit back and watch them run their franchise into the ground.

The problem with this years Rookie Draft Class is the very few of them are guaranteed starters. By the mid to late first round, there is not much left. You either hedge your bets and go ultra conservative, or hike up your pants and swing for the fences with the boom bust players.

I think you can chalk most of these up to homer picks (Murray & Wilson).

As for Austin... I had the 1.03 pick (actually had 1.01 & traded down to 3). But since Gio was my #1 overall ranked player, had to go there. Surprised he didn't go 4th or 5th... but I guess it was safer pick (4th - Hopkins) and homerun pick (5th Patterson) before Austin at 6. But yah, that's a pretty good spot for him.

I don't understand how Franklin is going so high. I don't view him as anything more than maybe a late 2nd guy and he's cracking top10 in some in some of these...

I can understand taking Lacy early then Franklin in the back half of the 1st just in case but it seems that some of these drafts, it isn't necessarily the same team taking Lacy/Franklin which is just baffling to me. Does everyone know something I don't about both Lacy and Franklin?

Some people think Frankin will win the job outright or that Lacy will get hurt eventually. We won't really know anything till some preseason games get going either way. I loved both Lacy and Franklin, but Lacy's injury history is worrisome.

From a rotoworld rookie draft. This the type of 1st round I expect most of the time. RB heavy, few WR's mixed in and no QB's.

First 6 rookie picks in my PPR dynasty draft: 1. Gio Bernard 2. Montee Ball 3. Tavon Austin 4. LeVeon Bell 5. Nuk Hopkins 6. Cordarrelle.
7. Eddie Lacy 8. Justin Hunter 9. Christine Michael 10. Zac Stacy 11. Johnathan Franklin 12. Marcus Lattimore.

16 team dynasty PPR - Pretty happy with my picks, only hesitation was passing on Lattimore at 14 to take Hunter but there is something special I see in Hunter's upside and rather take a flyer on Knile Davis or Chris Thompson if I'm gunna pick up a high-upside injury prone back. I was ecstatic to get Kelce at 30.. Him and Rudolph make for a very nice TE duo to have around for the next couple of years. Stacy I was also very happy about- I see him as the Justin Hunter of the RB's of this class. I figured with some a weak class this year, going for the "home-run" upside was the best strategy, and I picked some guys I felt fit the style of my team (Stafford, Spiller, Ridley, Julio, Harvin, Rudolph). Also of note- our league had it set up so that if you were unable to attend the draft, and did not care to make a pre-draft list, your pick would be forfeited. This was a bit controversial and may be revisited next year, but thats how it stands now..UPDATE: Just traded Robert Turbin to the Lynch owner in exchange for Lattimore. 1.01 Ball, Montee DEN RB ®1.02 Lacy, Eddie GBP RB ®1.03 Bell, Le'Veon PIT RB ®1.04 Manuel, E.J. I think 1.04 is the highest I've seen Manuel go, assuming this isn't a 2qb/super flex league.

I'm in total rebuild mode here, and got lucky to get Patterson at 1.08 in a PPR league

http://football11.myfantasyleague.com/2013/options?L=25377&O=17

so far so good IMO, also traded 2.01 / J Freeman for Sam Bradford and 3.04 which I used to take Kirk Cousins and back up RGIII

1.08 8 NO MA'AM Patterson, Cordarrelle MIN WR ® 1.09 9 NO MA'AM Eifert, Tyler CIN TE ® 3.04 32 NO MA'AM Cousins, Kirk WAS QB 3.05 33 NO MA'AM Boyce, Josh NEP WR ® 3.12 40 NO MA'AM Wilson, Tyler OAK QB ® 3.13 41 NO MA'AM Reed, Jordan WAS TE ®

My picks are in bold. I'm in a rebuilding mode right now so I moved a decent amount. Moved up twice in this draft, moving Roddy White for pick 1.3, Also moved my 2013 3.04, 3.05, 2014 Round 2 & 4 for his 2013 2.04 and 2014 3rd and 4th. Pretty much got a lot of the guys I was targeting in the draft.

10 team PPR start 1 qb 2 rb 3 wr 1 te 1flex(any) 2-3dline 2-3lb 2-3db (total of 8 defensive starters). 7 round draft with compensatory picks.

Draft is done live, in person with a 2 minute clock. Even with such a short clock we usually have a ton of draft day trades.

Bolded my picks. I won this league last year. And had 2 first round picks at one point but had traded them all, so my first pick was 2.4, was happy when Manuel was still there (superflex, most start 2 qb), but I reallly wanted Eifert to drop one more spot. I tried to trade up to 2.2 to grab Eifert but was rejected. My favorite pick was probably Arthur Brown in the 3rd. I had 2.9 at one point, but traded back in the draft thinking he'd still be there. When Jarvis Jones went at 3.5, I traded up to 3.6 to get Brown. I couldn't believe Boyce was still there at 6.1 And tried to trade up into the 5th to get him, glad everyone turned me down. And traded 5% of my BB money to get 7.2 and grab Ryan Nassib. Figured I'd just bid on him at our first FA pickup anyhow.

Patterson dropping so far baffled me, especially because we're in TN, and half the guys are vols fans. Tried to trade up to 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 1.10 to get him, but no one was biting. Everyone was "happy their guy fell to them and couldn't pass it up". Oh well.

My picks in one of the Zealots Field leagues (Z8):

1.08 - Tyler Eifert, TE, CIN (really needed a TE and the top RBs were gone)

2.08 - Justin Hunter, WR, TEN

2.12 - Robert Woods, WR, BUF

5.05 - Josh Boyce, WR, NEP

5.08 - Chris Harper, WR, SEA

6.08 - Vance McDonald, TE, SFO

Lots of value later than I've seen in other places and in other drafts I've seen posted in this thread.

Wow, a position coach pops off about a hamstring issue and it pushes the guy toward the bottom of the 2nd?
