Anyone hear any news on this position battle? I didn't see anything int he training camp reports. All I saw was that Coleman was expected to win the job in May and that Spievey was gaining confidence recently.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions second-year safety Amari Spievey, who was expected to play a backup role because of his shaky performance last season, appears to be putting a lock on a starting job.

Spievey, a third-round pick last year from Iowa, showed up in much better shape, more focused, more mature and the results on the field are obvious.

Spievey is showing good speed and read-and-react skills. For the coaching staff that didn’t see him during the lockout, he’s one of the most pleasant surprises of camp.
