Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (5 Viewers)

Warrior just dropped on Netflix. Gonna give it a few days then I'm gonna fully commit. Let's roll
Couldn't sleep so I jammed through 3 episodes tonight of Warrior. Great start to a series. Got some decent foundational characters and I love the social dynamic of the battling groups. I have a quick trigger finger on movies and TV shows. I'll dump either in 10 minutes if I project no end game enjoyment. I'll definitely keep watching this. For now. Ha ha

Ozark has some pretty awesome performances and it's one of the very few shows I've seen that does "let's flip the genders" well, but my wife and I are currently re-watching it and I can't get over how gonzo the plot is
I had the sense that Bateman intended the show to be a one-off or maybe two seasons at most, but it caught on and he was probably offered a crapload of money to keep it going.

The show started so fast and was so dense with plot that it could sustain for a dozen or twenty episodes. After that, it starts to wear thin and become repetitive.

Darlene and her shotgun was shocking the first time she used it. The third and fourth time, not so much.

I'm watching Doom Patrol (Max). I'm a little more than a season in and it's pretty fun.
It's a pretty fun show but falls way off in the later seasons, so much so that we never finished it.
i feel like this show was a victim of the world changing for me i watched the first few seasons post-heart attack during the covid world shutdown when i could give them the time they deserved and enjoyed them a lot but then the world started spinning again and i got busy and watched the last two seasons on the go never giving them time and didnt enjoy them as much thats just how it was for me anyhow still think it is a good show with great characters take that to the bank bromigos

My social media feed is having its annual slugfest over Starship Troopers, which always provides a great excuse to go back and give that one yet another rewatch. Except it's one of those shows that has somehow fallen off all the streaming platforms. It seemed like it was everywhere a few years ago, and not it's just gone. (I should just open up my wallet and pay for it on Amazon, but as soon as I do that it'll be right back on Prime Video).

If I were king for a day, I would change our IP law to make it so that copyrights all expire after, say, 30 years. Starship Troopers was released in 1997, so it would be three short years away from the public domain. Everyone involved in this movie is now old -- they made their money off of it. At some point, individual works of media need to be considered part of our shared culture and should be available to anybody who wants to broadcast them, and 30 years seems about right to me.

I'm about halfway through season 3, and I'm not sure I'm going to make it. It should have been a 2-season show.

I'm not a video game guy so I cant speak for the super fans, but I enjoyed the 1st season.of Halo on Paramount. Saw they are currently dropping season 2. Not gonna win any awards for performances or writing but its a pretty cool watch.

Season 2 has been a major improvement across the board. The 3rd episode just dropped last week and the sense of dread and tension build-up was very well done. Can't wait for this week's episode, it's got the setup to be amazing.

That's about where I bailed. It was fun while it lasted.

Oh man, for anybody who doesn't have the HBO/Max app, the show Warrior just came out on Netflix. Highly recommend the show, great, enjoyable watch

Been watching death and other details on Hulu. Murder mystery type series. Not bad so far.
Was intrigued by that one but sort of looked like a rip off of Murder on the Nile or whatever it was called. Let me know if you’d recommend when you get through it…
Can’t comment on murder on the Nile as I haven’t watched it, but 3 episodes in to this and the wife and I both like it.

I'm a sucker for mob story lines and the yakuza do not disappoint.
Seen Warrior? Three good seasons but appears season 4 is, at best, in question since MAX cancelled the show. Netflix may pick it up.

Got the message that Warrior's existing seasons will be coming to Netflix in on the 19th. Still not sure if they will make new seasons, so ...

Watch this show. It's bad###. It's Bruce Lee's unfulfilled dream project, which should be enough. It's a historical drama about organized crime, mob wars corrupt cops, immigration, and more in turn of the century San Francisco. There are brothels and opium dens. There are crazy kung fu scenes set to crazy Chinese hip-hop. There is tons of violence. I'm talking myself into a rewatch just writing this
Apparently I got the date wrong, and it's been out a few days already. It's in the Netflix Top Ten, but somehow not #1 which is a travesty.

DId I mention it's also a western? It's a Bruce Lee western/historical drama w mob wars and politics and corrupt cops and tons of gratuitous violence. Also most of the main characters are extremely good looking. Also it was cancelled by David Zaslav, the #1 villain in Hollywood, but if enough people watch we'll get more seasons. Check it out.

has anyone watched The Fortress on Netflix?

looks right up my alley, but comes up as like a 56% match to my interests. rottentomatoes.com reviews are sparse and the trailer for the show is ****.

Is the draw to Warrior because of the martial arts or does it stand on its own as a good drama as well?

Would someone who is not at all into the kung fu/martial arts genre like it? Usually with fight scenes like this, I lose interest until they get back to the non-fight scenes.

Yea there is a solid story line associated with it to keep you interested. It isn't like they are kung fu fighting all the time (although they are fast as lighting).

Probably late to the party but just started Loudermilk this past weekend. I'm really liking it so far, Livingston plays the "IDGAF jerk with no filter but who is still likeable" role so well. I keep waiting for him to call somebody Lumberg.

I think it stays pretty solid - and really like Will Sasso as well.

Started The Americans, halfway through Season 1 and it's pretty good so far. Judging from reviews, it seems like this gets even better in future seasons.
If I could wipe one show completely from my memory so I could experience it again it would be this. Top 3 show all time for me. Don't rush it either - there's so many moving parts, take time to digest them

does season 3 get better or.. is this the bailout point?
Eh, season 3 has been fine. Not as good as the first season, though.

I only just remembered this show again over the weekend but if you're looking for something to watch, check out The Knick with Clive Owen. Only 2 seasons but should have been more, imo.

My college GB was one of the producers for that.

Eta... And wasn't Bono's daughter in it?

It doesn't seem to take itself too seriously and nobody should. It's kind of mindless TV but I've been entertained enough to finish it out. I think we have like 2 episodes left. Acting isn't great but you get some moderate to good eye candy and a reasonable mystery to follow.

My wife hates martial arts movies but she liked this.

Wow, I had no idea The Americans was that well regarded. Now, I'm really excited. I feel like I barely hear it talked about anywhere.

It's worth watching but I think some folks are overstating its greatness in here. An enjoyable show with cute wigs and 80s nostalgia. 7/10 for me.

we're big fans - and would go 9/10, it's not top 5 of all time or anything - but ...

I’m a minority opinion but I got really tired of shows where the main characters are the bad guys around when this show aired and didn’t really care for it. It was well done by any objective measure, though.
