The Second Worst NFL Team in the NFC of the Past 15 Years (1 Viewer)

First, we have to define "worst" - there are so many options.

But as the point is to win the superbowl, and to get their you have to win a play off game, I think it is reasonable to measure "worst" by number of wins in the playoffs - or, the lack thereof.

Now most people can probably guess number one. HINT.

But that is not very surprising if you have paid any attention to their travails.

What really surprised me (HT to scott van pelt show yesterday) is who is number two.

And Number Two in a big way.

The team with only one, yes one, playoff win in the past 15 years......

Let me present the former America's Team - The Dallas Cowboys.

Surprised? I was. But I think there really is no doubt. The second worst NFL team of the past 15 years is the Cowboys. And after this weekend, could be the worst in 16 years.

(fixed title per the catch of ivnabru) My bad :bag:

Actually just looked it up the Bengals, Lions, Chiefs, Browns and Bills all have not won a single playoff game since 1995 or earlier which is the year Dallas won their last superbowl.

Bengals and Lions both have a shot to change that.

As a cowboy fan, it’s really embarrassing to read this, but i don’t think it’s fair to use playoffs wins as the only measure, especially in a 15 years sample.

I didn’t make a complete research of the whole NFC teams but here´re a few numbers where i don’t think the boys are the 2nd worst.

120-120 W/L record

6 playoffs appearances

They had the best NFC record once

3 NFC East Championships

7 Winning record seasons (5 consecutive winning seasons 2005-2009)

6 Losing record seasons, they had 3 consecutive from 2000-2002, they never had 2 in a row since.

I know they are not in the race for the best team but 2nd worst?

Skins certainly come to mind. Only 2 playoff wins over the past 15 years and a 105-134-1 record and just 3 playoff appearances, with 10-6 the best record they've had.

Last playoff win:

Texans: n/a

Lions: 1991

Bengals: 1991

Chiefs: 1993

Browns: 1994

Bills: 1995

All others have a playoff win this century.

I was curious about who would be the second worse NFC team by record and guessed Cardinals or 49ers. I looked it up and the Cards were 2nd but I was way off on the 49ers who are actually above .500 (.511) over that timeframe. If anyone is interested since we're discussing it here are the numbers:

Don't forget 1-0 vs Cowboys in the playoffs.

I don't know if you can call the "worst" who has just had the longest drout without a playoff win; I think it also has to be that plus the overall winning/losing record.I hate to say this because I like the team and the fans etc but with the Lions ascendancy it's now the Browns who are worse. The Browns.... are really an expansion team. They kept the records but not the organization, that's in Baltimore now and doing very well. The Browns are really on a level with Jax and Houston in that they are really a "new" franchise still. Jax had success early, Houston has had it of late, but Cleveland has had neither.Neither the Lions nor Cleveland have been to the Super Bowl, basically the modern era of NFL Championships. Obviously there was plenty of glory for both of them beforehand. Who will be the last team standing?Since 1999: Cleveland has won 6 games or less 10 times in the last 13 seasons. Detroit 9 times. Detroit has now made the playoffs twice, Cleveland once.

The Cowboys are the second worst for one reason and one reason only: Jerry Jones.

No organization in any endeavor can sustain success without a leader, and the Cowboys are proof positive of this statement.

I'm a lifelong Cowboy fan and will never change teams: but man oh man do I despise Jerry Jones.
