There's got to be more to it than that. It seems like with that you could fold the bottom 1/2 of hands and take the top 1/2 of poker hands and max bet every street and come out ahead. Am I thinking this out wrong?
I think the only other caveat is that on a winning hand the ante is just a push unless you have a straight or better.I'm not sure the top 1/2 thing makes sense when there's no folding after the flop and no raising. Increases the chances of a suck-out.

Going to PH next Thursday the 26th for the Rx.com bash and hitting the SBR bast at Golden Nugget on the 28th. Got 2 nights at PH free and the 3rd for $69.

offdee,The best way to play 1/2 NL hold em at a casino is to just play tight. If you must play a subpar hand, make sure you aren't calling a raise (just the $2) and that you are in position. Don't get cute with bluffs. Be mindful of how much is in the pot at all times and how many people are in the hand along with their position. It won't be as fun because you're not playing a ton of hands, but you should be profitable playing this way.
As of right now I'm planning to play at MGM with this in mind. Do you suggest a different/better place to play 1/2 NL hold em?Have heard can make some money at MGM, but the scenery/casino experience isn't the greatest.
I actually like the MGM poker room. It's right next to their sportsbook and a fairly cheap and decent deli type sandwich place. The game there is also very soft. The Bellagio is probably the softest 1/2 game but not by that much. I'd probably rank them Bellagio>MGM>>Venetian>Caesars>>>>the rest. The Venetian has the best tourney structure IMO if you would rather play those.
I personally find MGM the softest given their 200 max buy structure, but I can't argue with this list.
Bellagio would be the most convenient for me anyways with staying at the Aria. Good to know.
I've heard decent things about the Aria room actually. Never played there though.

If you want to make money playing poker, MGM has a sick win-rate with low risk. I'm a big fan. and the service is good.
This is kind of what i'm looking for...dont want to be overwhelmed by high stakes and sharks...but also hoping for a decent atmosphere.VERY stupid question and i apologize in advance, but tables of poker in vegas casinos.....are you playing against other players like a 5 man home game, or is everyone at the table playing against the dealer?
wtf
Guys, as clearly stated I knew it was a stupid question but just wanted to confirm.I do know how to play poker and playing against other guys at the table was what I always thought. What threw me for a loop was I downloaded an app for the iPad a few nights ago called "Casino Poker"....within that that app there are 3 games and one of the games is called "Casino Hold 'Em" where your hand plays against the dealer (and not against other players at the table). I was like, WTF, is this really how hold 'em is played in casinos (basically like how Blackjack is played but in Hold 'Em form). I sure as hell hoped not, but thought I better confirm.
Just giving you a hard time.

Just booked Sept 26-29 with the wife. Only $820 for airfare plus 3 nights @ MGM Signature from Minneapolis...so we were happy. Shelled out $250 for 3rd row tickets to 'O' since it's the one Cirque show we haven't seen. Hopefully can win some $$ @ MGM poker to pay for part of the trip. Can anyone suggest a good restaurant with atmosphere as good as the food? We're leaning towards Mix or N9ne. Our current favorite is SW.
Well I've said a few times in this thread that Mix is the best restaurant I've ever eaten at. And I've eaten at a lot of restaurants. The view is the best on the strip, and the food is outrageously good. The wife will love you even more than she does now if you take her there.

The general plan for my upcoming Vegas trip with the gf is in place. Getting excited as it will be my first time there.

this site has lots of info on the night life in vegas and who you should ask for at the various clubs to help with entry and or bottle service
Yep, did some good exploring on that site and signed up on the message board a couple weeks ago. Made a post asking about a couple club spots and a day later received a PM from a dude hooking me up with a phone #, name and info to contact a host from my club of choice to get on the list for free entry and no line waiting.

Does he want to meet up?

Has anyone been to:

1.) Minus5 in Mandalay

2.) The irish bar in Aria where if you can slam a pint in 7 seconds it is free?

Going in a couple of weeks and these 2 places were on my radar.

This has legs with my group
:) I just did this (took it very easy) with a pint of water at the office (happened to have just gotten one). 5.4 seconds out of a foam cup without spilling a drop.

but the standard for a fast chugger is 4-5 seconds. Really fast guys are in the 2-3 second range. At 7 seconds they must give away a lot of beer.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT ??? Seriously? 7 seconds? Right now, the 16 oz pint chug record on the Wall of Fame in Ox's garage is 2.32 seconds (by the Ox himself.) I tried to assault the record last weekend but couldn't top 2.65 seconds. Seven seconds is a picnic.

Was up there again this past weekend with some co-workers. FYI the Rio is doing a promo where if you are booked into a regular room for just one night they will automatically upgrade you up - we got like a 1200 sq. ft. suite that was impressive.

Also put in only a 2 hr. session at the Hard Rock from 10pm-12 and another session at the Rio from 2AM - 4AM, lost two pre-flop overpair shoves, and still wound up up 2 buy-ins. 1-2 NL during "drunk hours" is a very winnable game wherever you are at.

I did a quick search and couldn't find a link to the actual promotion. Anyone able to find anything?

A couple of reviewers mentioned doing it. I guess you can do it as much as you want. Sounds like pints are like $9. :goodposting:

On Tuesdays, this place has 8-oz cups of PBR for a nickel. Nine bucks would get you 180 of 'em. :banned:

Does the 20.00 trick work for upgrading a seat on flights?
You can upgrade to 1st class the day of the flight for $60 on American.
I'm not sure how likely that is anymore. It used to be $100. Airlines have cut back on flights so much that most flights are full nowadays. American saves the upgrades for Platinum/Gold/Preferred members. My last few flights there have been nearly a dozen people on the upgrade standby.

How bad is the cab line going to be on Friday afternoon (flight gets in at 12:30)? Would it be worth it to get a car to pick us up? 4 people going to the hilton.

Was in Vegas for the Rx and SBR Forum bash. Stayed at Planet Hollywood. Strip was hopping. Never made it to the City Center. Took lots of pics only to have my iphone crash and lost all my pics. Thankfully there is a great Apple Store at the Forum Shops at Caesers Palace, got me a new new iphone thanks to it being on warranty.

I have been told by 2 different people both of whom opinions I respect, that Zumantiy is horrible, with trannies, dude making out, stuff like that, if that is your thing... research some more before you waste time or $$$, maybe I am wrong. have fun

shuttle is almost always faster/cheaper than the cab line from my experience as long as you're going to a strip hotel.

Anybody draft out there this summer? Half our league (~6 guys) will be headed out at draft time next year...will need to conference in the rest of the league. We typically get basic rooms but I'm thinking a suite makes more sense this time since we'll need phone/PC access and a fairly big space for those hours. Any options I'm not considering? I'm guessing whatever hotel we choose isn't going to give us access to a conference or board room w/out charging big bucks.

And assuming a suite is the right call - anyone have a hotel recommendation...preferrably at a Harrah's property?

Going to hilton...slightly off strip. Do the shuttles make multiple stops?

They do. Most hit a half dozen hotels or so. Not sure what else is on the same line as Hilton, maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be first stop.

It's the gf's choice...she's had friends go that liked it, and it was her one request, so no big deal

Cab line is really only bad on Friday from 5-7pm and Monday 8am-10am.The rest of the time it moves pretty fast IMO. Splitting a limo 4 ways would still only cost you an extra maybe 10 bucks a head at the very most.

Just got back from my best Vegas Trip ever (Ive been there around 20x).

Stayed at Hard Rock and only left to goto the Badger game and the Cantina across the street. Awesome restuarants, pools (outdoor gaming), unreal hotties, no grandmas chain smoking. Hit up rehab for free but just played craps and watched the show. Saw lots of tops and bottoms drop in the skybar pool.

I may never visit the strip again (although I missed O'Sheas).

Leaving Wednesday morning and staying for 5 nights. Going to have a bunch of friends and family out there as well. Should be a great time.

What is a good site for getting Cirque du Soleil tickets? Also need a place to watch the games on Sunday is Stadium in Pallazzo the place to go?

Returned from the trip last night and in recovery mode today on the couch with NFL games in front of me. Full review of our (myself and girlfriend) experience...

- 3 night hotel stay at Aria in City Center

Very nice hotel....modern design and non-themey which we preferred. At check-in we made up some story how the trip was a belated birthday gift for the girlfriend and were free upgraded to a strip view on the 53rd floor (hotel is 54 floors total) so that was sweet. The beds were ridiculously comfortable.

- Italian dinner at Olive's in Bellagio

Weren't able to get an outdoor table due to a 2 hour wait, but did get one inside next to the window so was still able to see some fountain show. Good wine and good food. I had the ravioli which was very tasty...great, fresh sauce. Gf had the fig and proschutto flatbread pizza which she enjoyed. As we were waiting for our table with some drinks at the bar we started chatting with a woman who ended up being the manager for the Wu-Tang Clan (rap group for those unaware). She was definitely an interesting, outspoken woman....a couple of martinis in her system and she was pretty uncensored. Good times.

- After dinner drinks at the Mandarin Bar at the top of the Mandarin Oriental

Fantastic views of the strip, but it was pretty dead so the overall vibe wasn't great. Had one drink and took off. We were pretty beat by then after a day of traveling and decided to call it a night so we could survive the next two nights.

- Explore/shop in the Aria Crystals and Wynn area

Perused some very high end stores (Gucci, Prada, Fendi, etc.)....gf lusted over pretty much every single bag and stiletto shoe in her sight. I ended up getting a bottle of Tom Ford cologne and a fall jacket from Zara. :style:

- Watch first NFL game of season (Vikes vs. Saints) at Emeril Laggasse's Stadium in Pallazzo

Great sports bar and highly recommended...just make sure to call in advance to make a reservation. Had a reserved seat in the couch area, and we scored one of the big chaise lounges so was like we were home on the couch. Placed bets on the Saints (-5.5) and for first TD to be caught by Percy Harvin (8 to 1), Robert Meacham (8 to 1) and Reggie Bush (8 to 1)....lost on all 4. Damnit.

- Gambling at Bellagio

Played 1/2 NL hold 'em ($200 max buy in) on a couple different 4 hour sessions throughout trip. Played tight, met some great people, had some free beverages. Ended up about $200 total ahead when all was said and done.

- Zumanity (Cirque De Soleil) show at NYNY

Very entertaining show. In a smaller theatre so more of an intimate vibe. Some pretty racy topics covered, but also mixed in some good humor as well which we weren't expecting. At $112 per ticket probably a bit overpriced, but was an enjoyable experience.

- Sushi dinner at Okada in the Wynn

Solid sushi, but we wouldn't go back.....we have a place around the corner at home in MKE (Nanakusa) where we regularly have sushi just as good, if not better.

- Clubbin' at Tryst in the Wynn

Okada is literally about 10 steps away from the Tryst entrance....we walked out of dinner at 11pm and the line was crazy long already. We were able to get on the list from some inside contacts so were able to walk by everyone, get ushered in with no cover charge. Interesting feeling getting up and down looks from every skank and guido waiting in line and wondering who the hell we were. (yep, we're kind of a big deal) Decent club, but nothing overly jaw-dropping. You walk in and see a pool with a big waterfall which is unique, but after that nothing really stood out as special. Dance floor wasn't very big so quickly got too packed. Lots of hot chicks roaming around, but after a while an interesting effect happened where all of them just started looking the same and nothing all that special. Long hair, short dresses, high heels. Not a bad thing at all but weren't many stand-outs after a while. Basically a room full of 7.5's-8's....if I'm in Vegas I expect to see a nice dose of 9's which was lacking. Decent time, but both the gf and I said we would've been disappointed if we would've had to drop the $60 in entry fee. When go back to Vegas won't be returning to this club. If able to do over would've gone to XS in the Encore as supposed to be much larger with bigger dance floor and room to roam.

Overall great trip to pop my Vegas cherry. Was fun with the girlfriend, but next time around will most definitely be with my boys for true debauchery.

Tryst is small - forgot about that, XS is not that much bigger. TAO I think you would like. Youmight have only paid 30 usually chicks are free.I'm not a club guy but it was kind of cool being on the list, that happened for us too. :goodposting:
