Wheelhouse - Interesting Stats, Info and Tidbits

Thru Week 10

1. When was the last time this happened? Has it ever happened? - The Saints, not the Colts, not the Eagles, not the Rams, lead the NFL in passing yards per game with 283.0

272.6 IND

267.2 PHI

257.9 STL

255.0 PIT

250.9 GB

246.7 DET

239.1 CIN

2. Good, but not great - The Lions are the only team to average 220+ yards passing per game, without having an average of 20 points scored per game or higher.

* Five teams average more than 200 yards passing per game without more than 20 points scored per game.

Passing yards per game, Pts per game, Team

246.7, 19.4, DET

219.2, 16.2, MIA

204.2, 16.0, ARI

Team, Pts scored per gm, Pts allowed per gm

SEA 21.0, 22.1

CAR 17.9, 19.2

NYJ 19.7, 23.0

4. Pittsburgh - Is the only team with a losing record that is averaging more points scored per game than allowed. 23.9 vs. 23.0 Two others are extremely close - CIN 24.0 vs. 24.1 and ATL 20.0 and 20.1

5. Did you know - 4th down stats (non punt/FG) -

* The Colts have not even attempted a 4th down play this season

* The Redskins have allowed all five 4th down attempts to convert

* The Giants and Broncos defense has stopped 8 of 10 4th down attempts

* The Patriots have converted 11 of 14 4th down attempts

30-35%: SF, MIN, CIN, DET, CLE, TB, TEN, OAK

30% or less: BUF, CAR

8. The Chargers are on pace for 30 rushing TD - SD has more rushing TD (19) than 13 other teams have total TDs. That's also more TD's than any team's passing TD's  What's even more amazing is the AFC West (San Diego's division) is very good in allowing few rushing TD's

Team, rush TD allowed, NFL rank

DEN, 2, 1

OAK, 4, 6

KC, 7, 16

9. Speaking of AFC West, Did you know? The Broncos have allowed 206 receptions to their opponents - most in the NFL :o

Bledsoe 8 vs. 7

V. Young 8 vs. 5

Leinart 7 vs. 5

Culpepper 3 vs. 2

11. For what it's worth, Mr. Cowher - Charlie Batch is sitting on your bench with a 136.8 QB rating with 5 TD passes and 0 INT's in 3 games. - I'm just sayin'

12. How does QB rating compare to wins?

Top 10 teams (QB rating)

104.5 IND

100.9 SD

98.0 STL

96.4 PHI

95.1 CIN

94.0 NO

91.3 HOU

91.1 KC

86.2 WAS

86.2 PIT

Avg wins per team: 4.9 What do you think?

13. Every 72.7 yards of total offense, he scores a TD - That's LaDainian Tomlinson I'm talking about

14. The Amazing Week 10 - Before week 10 of this year there was not a single 200-yard performance rushing or receiving. There were two in week 10. One rushing (W. Parker 213 yards) and one receiving (C. Johnson 260 yards). There were six 300-yard passers in week 10 and one 400-yard passer. There was a total of 20 rushers and receivers who managed 100 yards or more in week 10. There were also 5 players with 14 tackles or more. Wow, what a week!

15. Just in case you wondered - stat of the week - In week 2 of the NFL season there were no defensive TD's scored. Every other week there have been at least two.

16. This stat is surprising - For the year Steven Jackson is having, he hasn't had a 100-yard rushing game since week 2. However, he is the only player to average 100+ total yards in every game this season. Tiki Barber can't say that, nor can Larry Johnson or LaDainian Tomlinson.

edit: S. Jackson had only 96 total yards in wk 6 vs. SEA

17. Trivia Question for you - Who is the only player with more than one 2 pt conversion (rush or rec) on the year?

18. Hey Chad, nice job on the 260-yard day but - Did you know that was Chad Johnson's first game with 100 yards receiving this season?

19. Uhhhhm, Jacksonville, what's going on? The Jaguars do not have a single player on their roster with 30 receptions or more. Every other team can say that. Even Oakland :bag: The Vikings don't either if you don't count Chester Taylor's 34 recs.

20. New stat of the week - The most yards per catch by any player with 40 receptions or more is Javon Walker 17.8.

17.8 J. Walker

16.3 Roy Williams

16.1 R. Wayne

16.1 Colston

15.4 D. Jackson

14.8 I. Bruce

14.7 S. Smith

14.6 H. Ward

13.8 Driver

13.8 Muhammad

21. Only 1 RB in the top 17 in rushing yards is averaging less than 4.0 yards per carry. Who is it?

22. Jason Taylor is making a push for defensive player of the year - He has 8 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 1 INT, 1 defensive TD and 4 passes defensed. Not bad at all for a defensive lineman.

23. Players with 10+ targets in week 10 - (consecutive games with 10+ targets in parenthesis)

14 Ma. Clayton (2)

13 Colston (3)

13 Bruce

25. Where have you been?

Eli Manning - 151 yards passing in his last 3 games

A. Boldin - 10 rec, 159 yards in his last 3 games (3 rec, 53 yard avg)

McNabb - 1 TD and 191.5 passing average in his last 2 games

26. The rich vs. the poor - San Diego has attempted 34 extra points. Oakland has attempted only 10. :bag:

27. It doesn't seem to be working Matt - Buccaneers kicker Matt Bryant squeezes his 11.5 inch kicking foot into an 8.5 inch cleat. He says it gives him more power when kicking the ball. Unfortuantely, Matt Bryant is in the cellar with only 7 FG's this season, an NFL low.

28. Sticking with kicker stats. So much for the big start - John Kasay was 3 for 3 in 50-yd FG attempts in the first 3 weeks of the season. Since then, he has only attempted 2 FG of 40 yards or more, both 50+ yarders and he's misfired on both of them.

29. Receiving yards per TD catch - Leaders (min 4 TD recs, WR/TE only)

54.4 O. Daniels

I know it was way back in week 7, but ...
3-1-PHI 44 :-)04) 3-M.Bryant 62 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-83-D.Moore, Holder-9-J.Bidwell.
a last second, game-winner no less.

Mcnabb's numbers are a bit different after the stat change. It makes his latest game ~250 and 2 TDs, which I don't think qualifies him as a where have you been candidate. I won't hold it against ya since it was so recent ;) lovin it though.

Thanks Wheelhouse, you never cease to amaze us...that stat showing D. Tyree with 11 targets last week opened my eyes, I thought that with Toomer out, it would be Carter getting the looks ( after Plax of course), I had reviewed the targets data for last week without realizing that point...keep it coming.....

That last stat is killer for guys in PPR leagues. It bumps up the value of the backs. While the fantasy rags tell Joe Schmoe that Rudi Johnson is the #5 pick, guys in the PPR leagues know that Rudi couldn't hold Westbrrok or Jackson's jock unless given permission.

There are three offensive players in the league with the last name "Wallace". Can you name them?

(Hint: They are three of the most bizzare names you will ever come across)

Don't Peek:

Seneca Wallace QB - SEA

Taco Wallace WR - SEA

Butchie Wallace RB - ATL

That was your useless fact of the week to go along with all those useful Wheelhouse facts.

I think you may be mistaken here...Atlanta has a winning record and they are scoring less than they are allowing too.Good stuff though.

Good stuff always WH...

saw these on NFL.com

Devin Hester's 108-yard return of a missed field goal tied the longest play in NFL history. His teammate, Nathan Vasher, first accomplished the feat Nov. 13, 2005, against San Francisco. Both returns came on missed 52-yard field-goal attempts.

The Colts are the first team in NFL history to achieve 9-0 starts in back-to-back seasons.

Houston has six victories against Jacksonville, the most against any team since the Texans entered the NFL in 2002. They have won 15 games against the rest of the NFL in 4½ seasons.

Detroit's Jon Kitna is the only quarterback this season to have passed for at least 200 yards in all nine games this season, and is the only player to have completed at least 19 passes in all nine games.

Three players named Johnson scored the Bengals' first three touchdowns against the Chargers -- Chad, Jeremi and Rudi.

Good stuff nerangers  I also think the Colts were the first team to start 8-0 in 3 consecutive seasons. I thoguht I read that or heard that somewhere.
