Hard Knocks with the Texans; Coaches like to curse (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
Getting selected for HBO's "Hard Knocks" television series is an accomplishment no NFL team seems to want, but according to reports, the Houston Texans will be featured on this season's edition of the program.

The Texans were one of the three finalists, along with the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins, to be chosen for the reality series, which any team can volunteer to take part in but none do. The league developed a criteria to be selected for the program, where any franchise with a new head coach, a playoff appearance in the last two years or having been on the show during the last 10 years can opt out.

Houston features one of the game's most dominant defensive players in J.J. Watt, aloof running back Arian Foster, Bill Belichick disciple Bill O'Brien as head coach, and Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer battling for the No. 1 quarterback spot. Will it make for interesting TV? Time will tell.

I always thought johnny football's next move would be a flavor flav type reality show for washed up 'celebs' --- didn't expect it for another year, though

Last thing my Browns need to do is show teams how we prepare... gives them an advantage come playoffs.

So pretty much any other team can watch this and immediately improve by doing the exact opposite of what Cleveland does...

MAYBE Haslam and Farmer will be on their best behavior if the team is on Hard Knocks, and that might be a benefit for the team.

OR

Haslam gets mic'd up and while in the bathroom inadvertently admits to knowing all about the Flying J scam and ends up in the pen....

i could see that too

Playoffs?

Super Bowl or some other kind of bowl. :toilet:

Per Hard Knocks one possible extra added attraction that might happen.

Steelers and Bills canceled their annual scrimmage and the Browns were mentioned as a possible replacement for Pittsburgh.

I've never seen the show so I don't personally care other than I wouldn't want the distraction but I can see where others would be intrigued.

Pettine was new Bills HC Rex Ryan's DC with the Jets and Pettine was replaced by Rex at DC his last year before Pettine left to be the DC in Buffalo where Rex is now. Supposedly Rex and Mike Pettine had a bit of a fallout so if their teams practiced this summer on Hard Knocks it could add something to the show.

IMO, this could happen. Browns have been linked to the word "dysfunctional". This would be a move by the league to rebuild their image.

No love this? At all?

Shame.

Jimmy Haslam - C - Browns

The Browns have informed NFL Films and HBO they don't want to be featured on Hard Knocks.

The Browns wisely don't want to expose Johnny Manziel and their wayward program to further public scrutiny. "When we decided not to volunteer for 'Hard Knocks,' we discussed everything that was involved with it," said coach Mike Pettine, who was with the Jets when they did the show in 2010. "[Manziel] is certainly something we needed to consider." The Browns could still be forced to do the series, but NFL Films prefers that a team volunteers.

i was actually looking forward to watching this :tfp:

Personally would like to see the Texans anyways.

ESPN's Tania Ganguli and the Houston Chronicle's John McClain report the Texans are the favorites to appear on this year's HBO Hard Knocks.

A report surfaced early Friday that the Texans, Redskins, and Bills were in the mix. Buffalo's new coaching staff reduces its chances of appearing on Hard Knocks, while ESPN's John Keim reported Friday afternoon that the Redskins are not in consideration. That leaves the Texans, who will hold a camp battle at quarterback between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer. Other potential storylines include Jadeveon Clowney's health, J.J. Watt, Arian Foster, polarizing rookie WR Jaelen Strong, and DeAndre Hopkins' post-Andre Johnson ascension.

Mixed feelings as a Texans fan. More exposure not a bad thing, but hope it's not a big distraction.

That, and while JJ Watt is a fantastic defensive player, a joy to watch, and about as good of a human being as you can hope for to be leading your favorite franchise... he's also developed a love of the spotlight I think he could do without. Don't imagine this is going to help out in that regard.

I think I'm starting to see a little of this with Russell Wilson too.

I love the guy too, but I hope it's not All-JJ, All-the-time.

I felt a little strange having to do a Google search to find out who the Texan's QB is, and after clicking on a couple of results I'm still not sure.

It will be a camp battle between Mallett and Hoyer, and I don't think anyone can do much more than make a guess at this point which. Not as high publicity of names as Johnny Rehab Football. But any QB battle is a potential storyline for them so I'm sure it went into the decision.

Other possibilities besides the ones in the ESPN article would be the acclimation of a bunch of new receivers and how the team deals with the loss of Andre Johnson.

I'm sad that D.J. Swearinger no longer plays for Houston. We could have watched him split the atom or recite poetry.

I haven't watched any of these, regularly anyway. I've watched bits and pieces, episode here and there. Never really got hooked. For some reason this one intrigues me a lot more. I'm very interest in seeing the Clowney progress unfold on video.

J.J. Watt doesn't want to be on 'Hard Knocks'

Completely forgot about this when thinking about the potential storylines they might focus on:

8. David Quessenberry. No jokes here…a player battling and defeating cancer? Are you kidding me? Also, Quessenberry has a brother in training camp trying to make the team. Too much good stuff here to pass up.
I could see Quessenberry's return getting a lot of play on the show.

DQ, Clowney, Watt and the QB competition are enough reason to watch. I haven't watch much of the other episodes.
